Josh (Frank) Doyle
22, Potlotek, Richmond Co.
Josh (Frank) Doyle, 22, of Potlotek, Richmond County, died, Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2000, at the Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston.
Born in Bangor, Me., he was a son of Helen (Angel) Doyle and Thomas Joseph Johnson, both of Potlotek. He was a former student of St. Peter’s District High School in St. Peter’s, graduating with the class of 1996.
He was employed with the Potlotek Board of Education at the Mi’Kmawey School in Potlotek as an assistant teacher’s aide.
He is survived by a son, Austin Michael Graydon Butler, St. Peter’s; sister, Hannah Johnson; half-sister, Melanie Paul; brother, Noah Johnson; half-brother, Thomas Marshall; maternal grandmother, Harriet Doyle; paternal grandparents, Annie and Mattie Johnson, all of Potlotek; and a Godson, Kyler Johnson, Halifax. Also surviving are many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Frank Doyle.
His remains resting at the home of his grandmother Harriet Doyle, Highway 4 in Potlotek (Chapel Island) until the time of the funeral which will be held Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. from the Immaculate Conception Church in Salmon River with Rev. Duncan MacIsaac officiating. Burial to follow in the Immaculate Conception Parish Cemetery in Salmon River.
Memorial donations may be made to the Mi’Kmawey School in Potlotek.

Donnie Morrison
68, Whitney Pier
Donald Christopher Morrison, 68, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family, Monday, Aug. 18, 2003, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born in Sydney, Donnie was the son of the late Malcolm and Molly (MacDonald) Morrison. He was a proud, lifelong resident of Whitney Pier. Donnie served with the Sydney Fire Department for over 30 years, retiring as captain in the Pier Station in 1994. He was an active member of Holy Redeemer Parish, serving as past president of the parish council, an adult altar server, and as one of the founding members of the Holy Redeemer Building Fund. He was also a former member of the Holy Redeemer Men’s Club. Donnie was an avid sports fan with a great passion for the game of hockey. He enjoyed spending time with long time friend and good buddy John MacCormack. Donnie was well known for his great sense of humour and his kind and generous spirit. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all. Donnie is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen (Hawco); daughters, Donna, Dartmouth, Raylene (Stewart) at home; sons, Dennis (Lisa), Prospect Bay, N.S., Ian (Debbie), Cambridge, Ont., Colin, Halifax; granddaughters, Nicole, Sydney and the light of his life, Kayleigh, Dartmouth. Also surviving are two sisters, Marie Walsh, Sydney and Jessie Fraser (Paul), South Bar; his favourite niece and honourary ‘daughter’ Barb and many other nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Kay Noseworthy. Visitation for the late Mr. Morrison will take place today (Tuesday), 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. A funeral mass will be celebrated Thursday, 11 a.m. in Holy Redeemer Church with Rev. Errol MacDonald officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks. Donations in Donnie’s name may be made to Holy Redeemer Building Fund.

63, Acton, Mass.
Barbara (McCaw) Hull, 63, passed away Thursday, Aug. 31, 2000, at home, in Acton, Mass.
Survived by husband Dr. Lawrence Hull, formerly of Glace Bay; sons, Matthew and Jonathon, both of Acton; sister, Eleanor Mastroelli and family, Peabody, Mass.; brother, Everett McCaw and family, Burnham, Me.
Predeceased by her parents, Eva Colpitts and Everett McCaw Sr., formerly of New Brunswick.
Donations to a charity of choice are suggested as memorials.
Ryan Shawn MacLean

Ryan Shawn MacLean, 3, born July 11, 1997, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with leukemia at the IWK-Grace Hospital, Halifax on Friday, Sept. 1, 2000.
He was the son of Kevin and Charlotte (Boutilier) MacLean of Locks Road, Enfield.
Besides his parents, he is survived by a sister, Brittani, at home; also his maternal grandmother, Josephine Boutilier, Frenchvale; paternal grandparents, Neil and Marjorie MacLean, Coxheath; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, John Edward Boutilier.
There will be no visitation, a funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 4, 2000 at the Riverview United Church with Rev. Carolyn Nicholson officiating.
Donations may be made to the Children’s Wish Foundation.

Harry J. Black
80, Harve Boucher
Harry J. Black, 80, of Havre Boucher, Antigonish County, and formerly of Sydney, died Sept. 3, 2000, at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish.
Born in Sydney, he was a son of the late Angus and Mary Ann (Hayes) Black. He was a veteran of the Second World War, having served five years overseas. He worked at the Point Edward Naval Base and at Sydney Drydocks. He was a member of Branch 138, Royal Canadian Legion, Westmount.
He is survived by a daughter Maureen (Dave) Coffin, Havre Boucher, with whom he resided for the past four years; sons, Roger (Valerie), and Paul (Ann), all of Goulds, Nfld., Harry (Stella), Sooke, B.C.; sister, Stella Johnston, of the MacGillivary Guest Home, Sydney; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by brothers, Walt, Don, Tom, Gus, and a twin brother in infancy.
Visitation will be from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today (Tuesday) in St. Paul’s Center, Havre Boucher. Funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday at 2 p.m. in St. Paul’s Church, Havre Boucher, with Rev. Angus MacGillivary officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

ary Catherine (Mae) Petrie, 100, who will be sadly and lovingly missed, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Aug. 19, 2000, in London, Ont.
Predeceased by her loving husband, Daniel Petrie; son, Daniel (Bud) Petrie; daughters, Pauline, Carmella (Sis) King; sisters, Annie Tracey, Mary Briggs, and a brother, Murdock MacKenzie. Dear mother of Elizabeth (Mrs. Alex Brushett), Whycocomagh, N.S., and Evelyn (Mrs. Aubrey Clements), Glace Bay, N.S. Dear grandmother of Lorna (Mrs. Andrew Yorke), London, Ont., with whom she resided for the past several years; grandchildren, Edith, Audrey, Danny, Charlie, Nelson, Cathy, Kim, Susan, Wendy, Debbie and Ricky. Great-grandmother of 20; great-great-grandmother of six. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place. Family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, Sept. 6, from 7-9 p.m., at the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, Sept. 7, at 11 a.m. in St. Leo’s Church, Glace Bay, Fr. Paul McGillivray officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.
