Norman Roderick Campbell
42, Wagmatcook
Norman Roderick Campbell, 42, of Wagmatcook, Victoria County, died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000, as the result of a fishing accident.
Born in Baddeck, he was the son of Edwin and Victoria (Peck) Campbell of Baddeck.
He was a member of the Queen of the World Catholic Church. Norman was employed seasonally at the Wagmatcook Fishing Department. A friend to all, Norman’s favourite sport was fishing. He will never be forgotten.
He is survived by special companion Sandra Peck, Wagmatcook; three sons, Leonard (Joylene), Baddeck, Elijah and Cyrus, both of Wagmatcook; a daughter, Cassandra, Wagmatcook; two brothers, Tommy Peck, Wagmatcook and Eddie (Pauline) Campbell, Baddeck; two sisters, Veronica (Mrs. Howard Jeddore), Wagmatcook and Betty MacDonald, Halifax; one grandson, Isaiah, North Sydney. Also survived by many uncles and aunts, nephews and nieces.
He was predeceased by maternal and paternal grandparents and one sister, Linda.
The body resting at his home on Fishery Road, Wagmatcook with visiting hours after 3 p.m. Saturday and all day Sunday. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, September 18, 2000, at Queen of the World Catholic Church with Rev. Doug MacKinnon officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice.

Blanche (Turner) Budge
84, New Haven
Blanche (Turner) Budge, 84, of New Haven, passed away at Buchanan Memorial Hospital, Neil’s Harbour, on Saturday, Sept. 9, 2000.
Born in New Haven, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Mary Turner. Blanche was a member of St. Peter’s Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Eleanor (Mrs. Jamie Smith), New Haven, and Marie (Mrs. Herbert Fraser), Dingwall; two sons, Alex (Annie), New Haven, and Gordie, at home; daughter-in-law Lorraine, New Haven; sister Lill (Mrs. Ken Morse), Greenwood; brothers, George (Theresa), New Haven, Thomas (Elizabeth), New Haven, Walter (Mary), Dartmouth; Alymer, Sheet Harbour; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Blanche was predeceased by her husband, Melvin; sons, George (Buddy), Allie; brothers, Peter, Hector; and a sister Helen.
Visitation was held Sunday, Sept. 10, from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. and today from 9-11 a.m. in All Souls Chapel, Neil’s Harbour. Funeral Mass will be today at 2 p.m. in St. Peter’s Presbyterian Church with Rev. Richie Robinson officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, St. Peter’s Presbyterian Church or Palliative Care.

Ruth Henrietta Goode
89, Mira
Ruth Henrietta Goode, 89, of Gibbons Road, Huntington, Mira, passed away Saturday, Sept. 9, 2000, at home.
Born in Huntington, Mira, she was a daughter of the late Phillip and Henrietta (Huntington) Gibbons.
She was a member of the United Baptist Church, Sydney; Women’s Institute of Nova Scotia; former 4H leader; excellent seamstress; volunteer knitter for children at the Cape Breton Healthcare Complex and Transition House.
Ruth is survived by three daughters, Gertrude Betts, Huntington, Mira, Yvonne (Walter) MacDonald, Coxheath, and Alayne (Fred) Stassen, Wisconsin; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and her sister, Portia MacDonald, Cloyne, Ont.
She was predeceased by her husband, James Vernon Goode, in 1971; four sisters, Emily, Molly, Hortense and Jetta; three brothers, Caleb, Henry and Richard.
Visitation was held in Sydney Memorial Chapel Sunday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be in the chapel on Monday at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Andy Crowell officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be given to charity of choice.
John Hugh MacLellan
58, New Glasgow
John Hugh MacLellan, 58, Terrace St., New Glasgow, died Sunday, Sept. 10, 2000, at home, surrounded by his family, after a brief battle with cancer.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of Mrs. Irene (Holmes) Steele, Sydney. Employed at Michelin Tire, Granton, for the past 28 years, he was also past president of NSAQPA. He demonstrated love for his Lord and Savior through serving on the Board of Managers of First Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow where he was superintendent of Sunday school and involved in the music ministry. John taught guitar lessons in New Glasgow for over 25 years. He was involved in the community; assisting the Ukulele group, the Riverfront, seniors festivals and homes. He was the MC for the Special Olympics start at Michelin for many years. John was a member of the Truro and surrounding area Blue Grass Association. Music was his passion and he will be remembered for providing musical entertainment for various functions throughout the county.
Surviving are his wife, Lois E. (Brown); daughters, Lynne Ann MacLellan, Heather E. MacLellan, both of New Glasgow; son, J. Scott, Burnaby, B.C.; brother, David, Toronto.
He was predeceased by his brother, Gary.
Visitation was held Monday and will be held today (Tuesday), 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday in First Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating. Burial will be in Abercrombie Cemetery.
Family flowers only. Donations may be made in his memory to the First Presbyterian Church, Sound System Fund.
Leonard "Snookie" McGillivray
Norwood, Mass. / New Waterford
Leonard “Snookie” McGillivray, died August 12, 2000, at home.
Born in New Victoria, he was a son of the late Rupert and Florence (MacNeil) McGillivray.
He was a navy veteran of the Second World War. He was educated in Agnes School and worked as an Overman in No. 16 Colliery before moving to the United States, where he was employed at Weston College. He enjoyed gardening and was a great outdoorsman.
Surviving are his wife, Chris MacDonald, Norwood, Mass.; daughters, Deborah Augusta, Foxborough, Mass., and Irene Gallagher, Watertown, Mass.; six grandchildren; sisters, Mrs. Ruth Sheehy, Dartmouth, Mrs. Dolores Isenor, Wallace, and a brother Raymond McGillivray, Ottawa.
He was predeceased by brother, Douglas McGillivray.
Funeral mass was held on Saturday, Aug. 26th, in St. Catherine’s Church, Norwood, Mass. Cremation has taken place. A memorial mass will be held Saturday, Sept. 16th, 10 a.m. St. Michael’s Church, Scotchtown, C.B. Burial in Mount Carmel Cemetery.
Donations to the St. Michael’s Building Fund are suggested as memorials.

Bruce Campbell
86, Campbell's Hill
Bruce Campbell, 86, formerly of Campbell’s Hill, passed away on September 13, 2000, at Breton Bay Nursing Home.
He was born in Sydney and was the son of the late Emerson and Anne Mae Campbell.
He was a member of Holy Rosary Parish, Westmount. He was employed for many years at Sydney Steel Corporation retiring in 1978. He and his father, Emerson, were the first father-son members of the Steelworkers’ Pensioners Club. He was involved for many years with the Steel Centre Credit Union.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret; daughter, Anne (Dan Jesty), Ontario; son, Hector (Olive), Sydney; son, Chester (Sylvia), Ontario. Bruce is also survived by six stepdaughters and one stepson, Mary (Jake Williams), Edwardsville, Bernadine (Gilbert Lewis), Point Edward, Donna (Aubrey Brown), Lower Sackville, Theresa (Neil Gallagher), Winnipeg, Goretti, Vancouver, Norma (John Groves), Bedford, Danny MacLean (Anne Marie), Sydney River; a sister, Peggy Tilley, Glace Bay, and a sister-in-law, Irene Campbell, Sydney. Grandchildren, Sally, Donna, Michelle, Patricia, Mary and Jimmie; great-grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, Adam, Tanner, Karley, Jonathan and Sarah.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Elizabeth (MacSween) and daughter Jane; brothers, Roy, Chester, Billy, John and Jimmy; sisters, Ardella Campbell and Jean O’Dell and stepmother, Stasia Campbell.
Visitation for the late Mr. Campbell was held Friday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, main level. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. today (Saturday) at Holy Rosary Church, Westmount, with Rev. Dan MacInnis officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery.
