Vivian Viola Douglas, 67, of Eastern Passage, died Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2000, at home.
Born in Glace Bay, she was a daughter of the late George and Jane (Bonnar) Douglas.
Surviving are sisters, Nellie Jones, Montreal, Josephine Nurse, Glace Bay, Margaret Howell, Halifax, several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was predeceased by brothers, George, John, Herbert, James, Andrew, sisters, Dorothy, Esther.
Visitation 7-9 p.m. today in J. Albert Walker and Sons Funeral Home, 1234 Cole Harbour Rd., Dartmouth, where funeral will be held 10 a.m. Friday. Burial 1 p.m. Saturday in St. John’s Cemetery, Wallace Road, Glace Bay, Rev. Paul MacGillivray officiating.

Michael MacKinnon, 73, of Southside Boularderie died Thursday, Sept. 21, 2000, at home.
He was the son of the late Archie and Margaret MacKinnon of Island Point, Boularderie.
He is survived by his sisters, Christine Stead, Calgary, and Florence Krilow, North Sydney; his brothers, John Francis, Southside Boularderie, Roddie, Sydney, and Bernie, Halifax.
He was predeceased by his sisters, Mary, Kay and Matilda, his stepsisters, Sadie and Margaret and his stepbrother, Neil.
Visitation today (Saturday) 7-9 p.m. only in G.R. Francis and Son Funeral Home, Sydney Mines.
A private family committal service will take place in St. Joachim's Cemetery.
Edward (Eddie) Sterling Thorne
83, South Bar
Edward (Eddie) Sterling Thorne, 83, of South Bar, passed away Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000, at Cape Breton Regional Health Complex.
Born in Bishop Falls, Nfld., he was a son of the late Albert and Jessie (Osmond) Thorne. Before his retirement in 1981 he worked in the Open Hearth Department of Sydney Steel. He was a member of the Salvation Army Citadel, Whitney Pier.
Eddie is survived by his wife, the former Caroline (Carrie) Head; a daughter, Irene (Brian) Rush, Prince Edward Island; two sons, Edward (Ann), New Waterford, and Robert, Sydney; grandchildren, Michael and Jennifer Rush, Wendy (Todd) McSavaney and Janice Thorne; great-grandchildren, Taylor, Rileigh and Morgan Rush, Ceilidh, Holly, and Ryan McSavaney. Also surviving are two sisters, Hazel Morris, New Brunswick, and Daisy Plante, Brantford, Ont.; four brothers, Arthur, Patrick, and George, all of Ontario, and Albert, Halifax, and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by one sister Ann, in infancy; two brothers, Gordon and Gilbert.
Visitation for Mr. Thorne will be held in Sydney Memorial Chapel Monday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Funeral service in Salvation Army Citadel, Whitney Pier, Tuesday 2 p.m. with Capt. Morris Vincent officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.

On Monday, Aug. 21, 2000, at Kaiser Foundation Hospital in Los Angeles, Calif.
He is survived by his wife, Joy Coombes Baker formerly of Glace Bay; a niece, Ursula Joy England, Long Beach; a brother, Michael, Montreal; a sister, Dalphane Ranson, Louisbourg; an aunt, Wilma Baker, Louisbourg, as well as many nieces and nephews throughout Canada and the United States.
He was predeceased by his parents, Dorothy and Albert Baker and a sister, Delores Nearing, Glace Bay.
Madeline MacIsaac
99, Neil's Harbour
Mrs. Madeline MacIsaac, 99, a resident of the Highland Manor, Neil’s Harbour, and formerly of Sugar Loaf, Victoria County, died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000, at the residence.
Born at Meat Cove, she was the daughter of the late Sandy and Effie (MacKinnon) MacNeil.
She was a member of St. Margaret’s Parish, Bay St. Lawrence and a former member of the Bay St. Lawrence CWL.
She is survived by seven daughters, Jessie (Mrs. Jack MacPherson), Florence MacDonald, Mary Lowrie, Susan Larson, all of Sydney, Tina (Mrs. Duncan MacPherson), New Brunswick, Margaret (Mrs. Ernie Brown), Ottawa, Annie Rita Fricker, North Sydney; four sons, Donald (Bunny), Edward (Mildred), John, all of Aspy Bay, and Jim (Mary), Pleasant Bay; 27 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Alexander, son, Ronald and three sons in infancy, granddaughter, Sharron MacDonald, her brother, Johnie MacNeil, half-brothers, Dan Cameron, John Simon Fraser, Alex Fraser, Angus Fraser and half-sister, Cassie MacKinnon.
Visitation was held Monday and will be held in St. Margaret’s Parish Hall today (Tuesday) from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 2 p.m. in St. Margaret’s Church, Bay St. Lawrence with Rev. John Morrison officiating. Burial under the direction of Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home will be in the parish cemetery.
Aulena Mae Devoe
87, Parrsboro
Aulena Mae Devoe, 87, of Western Avenue, Parrsboro, Cumberland County, and formerly of Halifax and Bras d’Or, Cape Breton, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2000, at Highland View Regional Hospital, Amherst.
Born in Boulardarie, Cape Breton, she was the eldest daughter of the late Archibald and Amelia (Thompson) Dunlap.
She will be remembered for her gentle manner and as a loving wife and mother who was dedicated to her children, especially the special needs of her sons. She was a former member of United Memorial Church, Halifax and the Crowdis Unit UCW of that church and was a member of St. Andrew’s United Church and UCW, Bras d’Or. She was an adherent of the Parrsboro Baptist Church since moving to Parrsboro in 1997.
Surviving are daughters, Gloria (Burton) Jewers and her husband, Don, Parrsboro, with whom she resided for the past seven years, Carol (Burton-Ozon) Carpenter and her companion, Leonard Kolbe, Hinton, Alta.; a sister, Hannah Kaiser, Bras d’Or, Cape Breton; brother, Harry Dunlap, London, Ont.; six grandchildren, Margot Jewers, New York, Wanda Jewers, Parrsboro, Jeannie Ozon-Hoydal, Kristiansand, Norway, Debbie (Ozon) Klingbiel, Elizabeth (Ozon) Gorski, both of Hinton, Alta., Susan (Ozon) Foss, Bonneyville, Alta.; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by husbands, William S. Burton, Halifax in 1962 and J. Edgar Devoe, George’s River, Cape Breton in 1993, her sons, Lorne, Edmund, Bryan, Gary, five sisters, six brothers, two grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Visitation 11 a.m.- 12 noon Thursday at Smith’s Funeral Home, Parrsboro. Funeral 2 p.m. Thursday at the Parrsboro Baptist Church, Rev. Jeffrey White and Rev. Jim Bushell officiating. Committal service to take place in the Fairview Cemetery, Halifax.
Memorial donations may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association (Research), South Cumberland Community Care Day Care Program or to a charity of choice.
The family would respectfully request a scent free environment at this time.
