George MacDonald
87, Mira Ferry
George MacDonald, 87, a life-long resident of Brickyard Rd., Mira, passed away after a brief illness Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born at Mira Ferry, he was the son of the late Allan R. and Catherine (Jamieson) MacDonald.
He was a life-long member of St. Joseph Mission Church, Mira Ferry. George spent his life as a farmer and a self-employed woodsman on the family farm. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He is survived and sadly missed by many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by three sisters, Mary Agnes Campbell, Margaret Hazel, and Sr. Anna (Order of Sisters of Charity), three brothers, Daniel Allan, Allan Joseph, and Ronald Charles.
The late Mr. MacDonald will have visitation today (Monday) from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. at the T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Joseph Mission Church with Fr. Conrad Edwards officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery.
Donations may be made to the Cape Breton Palliative Care Society.

Anne MacDonald
Medfield, Mass.
Anne MacDonald, of Medfield, Mass., passed away peacefully in her 96th year at Sharon Manor, Sharon, Mass.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having been predeceased by her parents, James and Margaret MacDonald and seven brothers and sisters.
Born in Dominion, N.S., Anne spent her early years in the community of Reserve Mines, leaving at the age of 16 to find work in Boston.
Anne settled in Medfield and having traded a mining community for a leafy New England township, resided there for over 60 years. She spent 50 of those years nursing at the Medfield State Hospital, retiring at the age of 72 to her home on Green Street until she moved to Sharon Manor in 1994.
Anne was predeceased by sisters, Sarah, Sydney, Catherine (Kay) Bradford, Boston, and Isabelle Bainbridge, Cambridge, Mass. and brothers, Alex, New Waterford, Donald, Calgary, James, Dominion, and Michael, Reserve Mines.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Mary K. MacDonald, Reserve, with whom she once resided, nieces and nephews, Brian (Valerie Bobyk), Sydney, Barbara, Economy, N.S., Earl (Audrey), Glace Bay, Lewis (Edna) and Joseph, Dominion, Harvey, Boston, Barry (Jean) and Donald (Myrna), Calgary, Carol Hammonds, California, Claire Way, Ontario, Shirley Pinel, California, and Mary (Pius) MacNeil, Dominion and Evelyn (Phonse) Jessome, Glace Bay.
Cremation took place in Massachusetts. Funeral with Rev. R.D. Smith presiding to be held Sunday, Oct. 15, at St. Joseph’s Church, Reserve. Interment to follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
Arrangements under the care of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Ltd.

Kenneth Alexander MacKenzie
56, Christmas Island
Kenneth Alexander (Bruddie) MacKenzie, 56, of Christmas Island, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000.
Born at Christmas Island, he was the son of the late Dan Archie and Kate (MacNeil) MacKenzie.
He was a member of St. Barra Parish, Christmas Island. He was a member of the Nova Scotia Truckers Association, Cape Breton Cattlemen’s Association, Christmas Island Volunteer Fire Department and an occassional employee of Meadows Sand and Gravel and Harris and Harris, Sydney.
Surviving are his wife the former Georgina MacNeil, two sisters, Anne Marie MacKenzie, Christmas Island, and Florence (Gerard) French, Port Hawkesbury, a brother John Joe, Christmas Island, a nephew Danny French, two nieces, Sharon and Cathy French.
The late Mr. MacKenzie will have visitation at St. Barra Church, Christmas Island, after 4 p.m. today (Monday). Funeral Mass will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in St. Barra Church with Rev. J.A. MacNeil officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, C.B. Palliative Care Society, St. Barra Parish Cemetery Fund, or a charity of one’s choice.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel.

Joseph Hector Morais
77, Big Pond
Joseph Hector Morais, well known resident of 7100 East Bay Hwy., Big Pond, passed away peacefully after a brief illness, Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, at the QEII Infirmary in Halifax.
Born in Northern New Brunswick, he was the son of the late Arthur and Laurette (Duguay) Morais. Hector was a member of St. Mary’s Parish, Big Pond. He was very active in community affairs and a member of the Big Pond Volunteer Fire Department. Prior to his retirement he operated a small construction and forestry business. In recent years he was well known for his hobby of repairing bikes.
Hector is survived by his loving wife Claire, sons Clifford (Joan), Pictou, Hector Jr. (Lynn) Portage, and daughter Blanche (Dino) Sophocleous, Ben Eoin. Also surviving are his brothers Anthony (Sadie), Quebec, Noel (Lena) Manitoba, Paul (Esther) New Brunswick, Arthur (Laurianne) Ontario, Robert (Jeannette) Ontario, Eugene (Armelle), New Brunswick, sisters Alice (Val), Sr. Yvonne, Adela (Alvida) and Delisca (Hector) New Brunswick.
Visitation will be held at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, this evening (Monday), 7-9 p.m. and (Tuesday) 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. The funeral mass will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Church, Big Pond, with Fr. Joe Gillis officiating. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Big Pond.
Memorial donations may be made to the St. Mary’s Building Fund Big Pond, Canadian Cancer Society or charity of choice.

Christine Annie MacKinnon
63, St. Margaret’s Village, Victoria County
Death of Christine Annie MacKinnon, born Sept. 3, 1937. Born again June 12, 1971, was called home Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000.
Born at Black Point (Jumping Brook), she was the daughter of the late Archabald Daniel and Flora Ann (MacKinnon) MacKinnon.
She was a member of the Cape North Gospel Hall, Cape North.
She is survived by 10 daughters, Willena, Elsie, Selma, Angie, all of St. Margaret’s Village, Jocelyn (Herbert) Barron, Ingonish, Josephine (Gerard) Barron, Ingonish, Mary Effie MacKinnon, Dominion, Millie MacKinnon (David Fraser), New Victoria, Leonia Anthony, Sydney, Charlotte, (Aubery) Wadden, Howie Centre; four sons, Dan Hughie (Nicole), Duane, Franklyn, all of St. Margaret’s Village and Robert (Connie), Aspy Bay; two sisters, Mary Louise MacKinnon, Bay St. Lawrence and Mary (Allan Joseph) MacKinnon, Sydney; two brothers, Simion Dan (Alantia) MacKinnon and William (Florence) Bonnar, both of Bay St. Lawrence; 28 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren.
‘Mama’ will be sadly missed by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and all who knew her.
She was predeceased by her husband, Angus Dan, sister, Margaret Ann MacKinnon and a brother, Peter Dan in infancy.
Visitation for the late Mrs. MacKinnon will take place this evening (Saturday, Dec. 30) after 7 p.m. at the residence of her eldest son, Robert Daniel MacKinnon in Aspy Bay.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, in Cape North Gospel Hall with Mr. David Swan officiating. Euology will be said by Mr. Gordon Swan with burial in St. Andrew’s United Church Cemetery, Bay St. Lawrence.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the North of Smokey Palliative Care Society.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home.

James Henri (Jim) LeBlanc
1921-2000
Peacefully on Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, at the age of 79 years.
Born in Margaree, N.S. Son of John Charles and Mathilda.
Beloved husband of Carmen (nee Lefebvre). Loving father and father-in-law of Jacqueline (Christopher), Jean Pierre (Liette) and Lynn. He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren, Geneviéve and Christopher.
Resting at Urgel Bourgie, 63 Lorne St., St-Lambert, QC, Thursday from 7-10 p.m. and Friday 2-5 and 7-10 p.m. A funeral service will be held at St. Mary’s Parish Church, 735 Miller St., Greenfield Park, QC, Saturday, Oct. 21 at 11 a.m. Thence to Pointe Claire Field of Honour Cemetery, 703 Donegani.
