Olive A.J. McAviney, 72, of Second Street, Howie Centre, passed away Friday, Nov. 24, 2000, at home.
Born in Glasgow, Scotland, she was a daughter of the late George and Annie (Nicol) Butchart.
She was employed at Jacobson’s Ladies Wear for many years.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas, daughters, Anne (David) MacKeigan and Sue (Tom) Campbell, all of Sydney; one son, Paul (Donna), Edmonton; six grandchildren, Donald, Kyle, Paul, Melissa, Christopher, Scott; one brother, George, Scotland.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel. A memorial service will be held in the chapel Monday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Norman MacPhee officiating.

Anne E. (Donovan) MacNeil, 48, of Taunton, formerly of Boston, died Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2000, at Morton Hospital, Taunton.
Born in Nova Scotia on Jan. 23, 1952, she was the daughter of the late Jim and Sally (Coady) Donovan. She was a volunteer for hospital work. Anne attended St. Anne’s School in Arlington Heights and Boston University.

A memorial service for the late Karen Griffin, who’s death occurred in Kitchener, Ont., on Nov. 1, will be held at Saint Anthony’s Parish, Dominion Street, Glace Bay, Friday, Dec. 1 at 9 a.m. with Fr. Peter LeBlanc officiating.

Victoria Marie (Tighe) Corbett, 66, of Lingan, passed away Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital.
Born in New Victoria, she was the daughter of the late John F. and Willena (Turnbull) Tighe.
She was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish, New Victoria, and was employed with the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital for many years.
Victoria was also a longtime resident of Kentville, N.S. She is survived by seven sisters, Verna (Mrs. Horace Lovell), Lingan, Anna (Mrs. Michael Curry), Willena (Mrs. Bill Hinchey), both of New Waterford, Catherine (Mrs. Donald McRury), Agnes Kelly, Anita (Mrs. Winston MacKenzie), all of New Victoria, Lovie (Mrs. John Murphy), Sydney; eight brothers, James (Mary), Eddie (Colleen), Francis (Colleen), all of Lingan, Tommy (Polly), Tony (Elaine), both of New Victoria, Jackie (Carmel), New Waterford, Harry (Stella), Port Hawkesbury, and Vince (Lorraine), Boston; two special nephews, John Hinchey and Leo Corbett; two special nieces, Helen MacKenzie and Judith Tighe.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Bernie Corbett, and a sister in infancy.
Visitation for the late Mrs. Corbett will be held in the McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford Tuesday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday from St. Joseph’s Church, New Victoria, with Fr. Jake Andrea officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.
Charlene Mae Paul

Charlene Mae Paul, 40, passed away Monday, Nov. 27, 2000, at the Good Samaritan Hospital, Los Angeles, Calif.
Born in Caribou, Me., she was the daughter of Mrs. Mary Agnes (Joe) Francis and the late Percy Woodrow Paul.
She was a member of St. Ann’s Parish, Membertou.
Surviving are son, Rodney; sister, Mary Agnes, Malagawatch; three brothers, Conrad Paul, Membertou, Percy Noel Paul, Malagawatch, Norman Woodrow Paul, New Brunswick; half-sister, Brenda, Membertou; half-brothers, Nelson Paul, Ontario, and Clark Paul, Chapel Island.
She was predeceased by her twin sister, Carlene Rae, in 1961; and a sister, Marilyn.
The late Ms. Paul will have visitation after 2 p.m. today (Monday) at 22 Mic Mac Crescent, Membertou. Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Anthony Daniel Church, Fr. Leo Boone officiating. Interment in Membertou Memorial Gardens.
Arrangements are under the direction of T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel.
Francis Bernard (Happy) Wadden
85, Main-a-Dieu
Francis Bernard (Happy) Wadden, 85, passed away peacefully on his 85th birthday, Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by his family after a sudden and brief fight with cancer.
A resident of Main-a-Dieu, he was born in Scatarie Island, and was the son of the late Patrick and Susan (Barnstable) Wadden.
He was predeceased by his wife, the former Margaret Spencer; sisters, Bessie and Kate; brothers, Patty Joe, Austin, Andrew, Wilfred, and Tom.
Happy is survived by a brother, Henry, Montreal; three daughters, Donna (Allison) MacIntyre, Margaret (Allan) Robertson, both of Sydney River, and Patsy (Danny) Baldwin, Main-a-Dieu; two sons, Edgar (Sheila), Porter’s Lake, and Lionel (Georgina), Main-a-Dieu; 12 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Happy was a fisherman all his life and worked as a carpenter in the off season, which included a number of years at the Fortress of Louisbourg. He served a term as president of the Main-a-Dieu Credit Union and had been a member of the Immaculate Conception Parish Council. Happy was one of the original organizers of the Main-a-Dieu Juvenile Hockey Team (The Rockets) and in that capacity he helped manage and fund-raise. He was also one of the original members of the Cape Breton Fisherman’s Association.
Visitation for the late Francis Wadden was held in Immaculate Conception Church, Main-a-Dieu, Sunday from 7-9 p.m. and will be held Monday (today), 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday with Rev. Conrad Edwards officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Immaculate Conception Church Cemetery Fund.
