Thomas Norman Standing
40, Hardwoodlands, Hants Co.
Thomas Norman Standing, 40, of Hardwoodlands, Hants County, died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2000, at Twin Oaks Memorial Hospital, Musquodoboit Harbour.
Born in Gimili, Man., he was a son of Robert and Joyce (Lewis) Standing of Bible Hill.
He was a heavy equipment operator. He enjoyed playing hockey and was an avid Toronto Maple Leaf fan. Tom was a man with a generous nature and always was there to lend a helping hand.
Besides his parents, he is survived by his companion, Debbie Baker; sisters, Roberta (Mrs. Byron McCulloch), Hardwoodlands, Diane Standing and husband Derek Lugar, Truro, Debora (Mrs. Angus Redden), Middle Musquodoboit; three nephews, Shawn, Eric and Roderick; two nieces, Maggie and Hayley.
He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Thomas and Florence (Murray) Standing, maternal grandparents, Harry and Maude (Hinks) Lewis.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, in St. John’s Anglican Church, Truro.

Mary Ellen Kennedy
93, Guysborough
Mary Ellen Kennedy, 93, of Guysborough, died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000, in the Guysborough Memorial Hospital.
Born in Thompkinsville, Guysborough County, she was a daughter of the late Patrick and Susan (McAllister) Shea.
She was a member of St. Ann’s Parish, Guysborough; a former member of St. Ann’s Ladies Aid.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She is survived by her daughters, Audrey (Gordon) Harmer and Rita Kennedy, both of Guysborough; sons, Joseph, Fall River, Arthur, Sydney, Arnold (Frieda), Guysborough; grandchildren, Christine, Karen, Darlene, Arthur, Kelly, Russell, Alison and Jimmy; great-grandchildren, Shara, Jarrod, Peter, Ryan; many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by husband, Arthur James, son, William Augustus, seven brothers and four sisters.
Visitation will be held today (Friday) 2-9 p.m. in the Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Guysborough. Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Ann’s Church with Rev. Gary MacPherson officiating, con-celebrating will be Rev. Allan MacPhie. Burial in the parish cemetery.

Isaac William Wells
93, Upper Leitches Creek
Isaac Wells, Upper Leitches Creek, formerly of Shore Road, Whitney Pier, passed away on Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Isle aux Morte, Nfld., on Dec. 12, 1906, he was the son of the late John and Sara (Frampton) Wells.
He was employed at the Sydney Steel Plant for 45 years, until his retirement.
Isaac is survived by his sons, Bob (Colleen), Winnipeg, Ken (Louise), Montreal, Raymond, Upper Leitches Creek, George (Jessie), Buffalo, N.Y., Harold (Margie), with whom he resided for the last three years; 11 grandchildren, Angela, Mario, Joanne, Jacoquelen and Michelle, Montreal, Debbie and Gary, Buffalo, N.Y., Tracy, Winnipeg, Man., Jamie, at home, and Stephen and Carolyn, Halifax. He is also survived by a number of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Blandford, Sydney; sisters, Leasie Phillipo, Westmount, and Wellimine Ingraham, Newfoundland.
He was predeceased by his wife, Florence Skinner, daughter, Helen, and her three sons, Ron, Louie and Bobby, brothers, Jack and Bob and a sister, Christina.
Visitation will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel, Sunday 7-9 p.m. and Monday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held at St. Alban’s Anglican Church, Tuesday with Rev. Doug Chard officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Joseph Leo Gracie
84, West Arichat
Joseph Leo Gracie, 84, of West Arichat, died Saturday, Nov. 25, 2000.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late James Leo and Chistina Jane (Brean) Gracie.
Survived by his wife, Sophie Arsenault; daughter, Rose Caissie, Halifax; sisters, Alice MacGillivary, Mary Margaret Budden, Marie Debison, Theresa Allison, all in Glace Bay; brothers, John Joseph Gracie, Broughton Road, James Bernard Grace, Montreal.
Predeceased by two brothers, George Robert and Gerald Francis and one sister, Florence Currie, a foster son, John Beaton.
Burial took place in West Arichat parish cemetery.
Thomas Michael Lahey
84, Main-a-Dieu
Thomas Michael Lahey, 84, a resident of Breton Bay Nursing Home, passed away on Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Main-a-Dieu, he was the son of the late Charles and Catherine (O’Neil) Lahey.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Parish, Main-a-Dieu. A fisherman most of his life and later years worked at National Sea Products, Louisbourg, N.S. from where he retired.
Surviving are sisters, Marion (Mrs. Neil MacKinnon), Grand Mira South, and Beatrice (Mrs. Johnnie Johnston), London, Ont., also he is survived by a brother, Ken (Grace), Main-a-Dieu.
Tom was predeceased by sisters, Marion Suzanna, Jane and Blanche Wadden and a brother, William.
Visitation will be held at Immaculate Conception Church from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral will be held Wednesday, Dec. 13, at 10 a.m. in the parish church, Main-a-Dieu, with Fr. Conrad Edwards officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery under the direction of W.A. Chant Funeral Home.
Frances Theresa (Bruce) McNeil
Sydney / New Waterford
The death of Frances T. (Bruce) McNeil, of 1069 Upper Prince St., Sydney, occurred at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, on Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000.
Born at Searston, Nfld., she was the daughter of the late William Dean Bruce and Diana Anne (Annie) Butt.
Mrs. McNeil moved to New Waterford at an early age and lived there most of her life, having moved to Sydney about 10 years ago.
She is survived by four sons, Roy (Margaret MacEachern), Moncton, Russell (Sis Brufatto), New Waterford, Robert (Patricia MacDonald), Howie Centre, and Richard (Carmelita ‘Queenie’ Wall), Pickering, Ont. She is also survived by three daughters, Joan (Leonard) Devine, Thorold, Ont., Jeanette (Roderick) McCarron, Sydney and Sr. Evelyn McNeil, Holy Angels Convent, Sydney. She is also survived by 33 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; and a sister, Beatrice (John B.) Beaton, St. Catharines, Ont.
Mrs. McNeil was predeceased by her husband, John J. (Super) McNeil in 1986. She was also predeceased by five sisters, Sarah (Dan S.) MacDonald, Rachel (Delphin) Poirier, Cassie (Edward) MacFadgen, Clara (Frank) Turner and Mary (James) MacDougall as well as brothers, Martin and Nathaniel.
While a resident of New Waterford, Mrs. McNeil was an active member of St. Agnes parish and was involved in various parish organizations.
Visitation was held in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford, Thursday, Dec. 14 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated today (Friday) 11 a.m. in St. Agnes Church, New Waterford, with Fr. Jim Attwood and Fr. Bob Neville officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
