William Gillam
73, Frenchvale
William Churchill Rice Gillam, 73, of 479 Frenchvale Rd., passed away peacefully in hospital surrounded by family on Tuesday, Dec. 20th, 2000.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late James and Mary Gillam.
William was survived by two daughters Claire (Daniel Detheridge), Coxheath, and Lisa (Kiley Sampson), Lake Fletcher; two sons, Terry (Teresa), Westmount, and William J., Frenchvale; one sister, Emma Donovan, Sydney; and five grandchildren, Lucas, Meghan, Jeremy, Shaelyn and Rylen.
He was predeceased by his wife Alexina (MacNamara) and by two brothers, Stanley and Frederick.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation by request. Funeral mass will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 22, at St. Mary’s Church, Frenchvale.
Family flowers only. Donations can be made to St. Mary’s Parish, 1777 Frenchvale Rd. or to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Victoria 'Vickie' MacKinnon
92, Bel Air, Maryland
Victoria ‘Vickie’ MacKinnon, 92, of Bel Air, Maryland, U.S.A., passed away Friday, Dec. 15, 2000.
Born in Birch Grove she was the daughter of the late Daniel MacMullin and Mary MacIntyre.
Predeceased by her husband John.
Survived by daughters Mary Zajicek, Hyattsville, Maryland and Marilyn Pfeifer, Bel Air, Maryland.
Mary Anne (Doyle) Pope
93, Louisbourg
Mary Anne (Doyle) Pope, 93, a prominent member of the Louisbourg community, passed away peacefully at home on Dec. 22, 2000.
Born June 16, 1907 in Margaree Forks, she was a daughter of the late Michael A. and Bertha (McGarry) Doyle. She attended Mount St. Bernard College, Antigonish and Normal College, Truro and taught school at Cranton Section (Margaree Centre), Louisbourg and Bailey Brook, Pictou Co. She was a very active CWL member for over 50 years. She was a founding member and past president of Stella Maris Parish CWL. She also served on the CWL Provincial Executive. She was a member of Stella Maris Parish Altar Society. She took pride in corresponding with many family and friends. She wrote the Louisbourg news for the Cape Breton Post for a number of years.
She is survived by a brother Rev. D. Alphonse Doyle, Antigonish; two nieces, Shirley (Peter) Davidson, Marilyn (Bob) Price and two nephews, Bertram (Helen) Doyle and Gerard (Lorraine) Doyle.
She was predeceased by her husband, James P. Pope; four brothers, Bernard, Bertram, Rev. Gerard, Augustine and sisters, Henrietta in infancy and Frances Morrison.
Remains are resting in Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, Louisbourg, with visitation Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000 at Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, Louisbourg, with Rev. D.A. Doyle presiding, assisted by Pastor Rev. Conrad Edwards. Burial will be in Stella Maris Cemetery, Louisbourg.
Family flowers only please. Donations in her memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.

Theresa Krswda
73, Whitney Pier
Theresa Krszwda, 73, of Carefield Manor, Lingan Road, and formerly of 25 Meadow St., Whitney Pier, passed away peacefully at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on Monday, Dec. 25, 2000.
She was raised in Gillis Lake, and was the daughter of the late Ronald and Ann (MacIntyre) Gillis.
Theresa was a member of Holy Redeemer Parish, Whitney Pier. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother whose family was the centre of her life.
Theresa is survived by her beloved husband, Stanley; two daughters, Josephine, and Marina (James) Hall; sons, Francis (Stephanie), Glen (Mitzi), Gary (Margaret Ann), all of Sydney; sister, Catherine MacDonald, East Bay; brother Jimmy, Gillis Lake; and nine grandchildren, Francis, Jessica, Michael, Angela, Jamie, Dillon, Bhreagh, Tyree and Alex.
She was predeceased by sisters, Sarah MacFarlane, Martha MacKinnon; brothers, Johnny, Joe; and loving granddaughter Jenny.
The late Mrs. Krszwda will have visitation today (Tuesday) from 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday, Dec. 27, from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in the T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, Sydney. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, Dec. 28, at 11 a.m. in Holy Redeemer Church, Fr. Errol MacDonald officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Dorothy Mae MacPherson
Birch Grove
Dorothy Mae MacPherson, 81, of 1065 Main St., Birch Grove, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex.
Born in Birch Grove, she was the daughter of the late Neil and Ada (Martell) Nicholson. Dorothy was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Dorothy worked at the Children’s Aid Society in New Glasgow from 1967 to 1984.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter-in-law, Jean, Glace Bay; grandson, Donald Michelle, Cole Harbour; granddaughter, Terri (Mrs. Andrew Byers) Buckinghamshire, England; brother-in-law, Ross Campbell; nephews, Scott, Sandy, Ronnie (Clara), all of Halifax, Calder (Eleanor), P.E.I., Doug (Sheila), Ontario; and niece Paula Hill, Ontario.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A committal service will be held Friday, Jan. 5, 2001, at 2 p.m. in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney, with Rev. Eric Lynk officiating.

Mary Grace MacLeod
96, Neil's Harbour
Mrs. Mary Grace MacLeod, 96, a resident of the Highland Manor, Neil’s Harbour, passed away Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, at Buchanan Memorial Hospital, Neil’s Harbour.
Born in New Haven in 1904, she was the daughter of the late James and Louise (Touchings) Royal.
She was a member of the Cape North United Church and in her early years worked at the fish plant in New Haven. She loved knitting, sewing and doing crossword puzzles.
She leaves to mourn daughters, Isabelle Fricker, Blountville, Tennessee, Mary (Lewis) McEvoy, Petawawa, Ont., Myrtle (Jim) McEvoy, Cape North, Vict. Co.; sons, John (Margaret), London, Ont., Lloyd, Sheenboro, Que., Gordon (Ruby), Moose Jaw, Sask., Roy (Carrie), Lockport, N.S., Sinclair (Ruby), Dingwall, William (Cathy), Abbotsford, B.C., Dennis, Langly, B.C.; 38 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband Roderick, daughter, Marie, sons, Melvin, Collie, and Roderick, granddaughter, Norma, sisters, Dora and Sadie, and brothers, Maurice, William, and Benjamin.
Visitation will be in the Cape North United Church on Wednesday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. where funeral Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Chris McCann officiating. Burial, under the direction of Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home, will be in MacPherson Cemetery, Dingwall.
