John Shaw
90, Indian Brook
John Shaw, 90, of Indian Brook, Victoria County, N.S., died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, at the Alderwood Rest Home, Baddeck.
Born in Wreck Cove, Victoria County, he was the son of the late Neil and Mary (MacLean) Shaw. He was a fisherman and a member of Knox Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of North Shore Volunteer Fire Department and was the last surviving member of the North Shore Gaelic Singers. He was a choir member of Knox Presbyterian Church in Indian Brook.
He is survived by his wife, the former Effie MacLeod; a son, Dennis Shaw, Indian Brook; one foster daughter, Joan and her husband Ray MacQueen, Brantford, Ont.; and a nephew, Edward Shaw, Indian Brook. Grandchildren, Marilyn Small and Morris MacQueen and great-grandchildren Lindsay, Nicole and Miranda Small.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Dan Shaw, sister, Sarah Shaw, nephews, John D. Shaw and Nelson Shaw.
The body is resting at Knox Presbyterian Church in Indian Brook, with visitation Friday 7-9 p.m. and Saturday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 31, with Rev. Ritchie Robinson officiating. Burial will be in Ocean View Cemetery, Birch Plain.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alderwood Rest Home, Baddeck, N.S.

Rita White
Connecticut
Rita White of North Haven, Conn., formerly from Codroy Valley, Nfld., died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, after a brief battle with cancer.
She was the daughter of the late Daniel and Margaret (Gillis) White.
Surviving are her four brothers, Ferdie, Bateston, Mike and Gerald, Codroy Valley, Stan, Aurora, Ont., a sister, Marie, North Haven, Conn.
She was predeceased by three brothers and two sisters.
Funeral will take place in Connecticut.
John Roy Campbell
75, The Points West
The death occurred on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, of John Roy Campbell, 75, of The Points West, at the Richmond Villa, St. Peter’s.
Born in The Points West Bay, he was the son of the late Alex John and Susan (Morrison) Campbell.
He was the beloved husband of Jean (nee Parker); and father of Darlene and grandfather of Roy. He is also survived by a sister Margaret (Mrs. Stanley Parker), North Sydney.
He was predeceased by a son in infancy.
Visitation will be in the Alex A. Morrison Funeral Home, St. Peter’s, Tuesday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. The funeral will be held in the Black River United Church 2 p.m. Wednesday with Rev. Keith Adams officiating. Burial in MacKay Cemetery, St. George’s Channel.

George Henry Holden
68, Port Caledonia
The death of George Holden, 68, occurred Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex.
Born in Glace Bay, George was the son of the late Harry and Georgina (Murrant) Holden.
George was a longtime employee of the Cape Breton Development Corporation, having worked in several collieries, retiring from the electrical department in 1989 with 38 years of service.
George was a member of St. Luke’s Anglican Church, Port Caledonia. He was a member of the Thistle Lodge No. 36, Port Morien, and a member of Martin Lodge 101, Donkin, until it closed. George also had a keen interest in antique automobiles.
George is survived by his wife of 41 years, Joyce (MacIntosh); daughter, Marilyn and son-in-law Allister Edwards and he cherished his grandsons Sean and Stephen. George is also survived by a sister, Eileen (Alfred) MacMullin, Glace Bay; a niece, Harriett (Kevin) Moss, Port Caledonia; a brother-in-law, Jon (Edith) MacIntosh; and two special nephews, Stephen MacIntosh and David (Wendy) MacIntosh, all of Long Beach.
George was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was a friend to many and always willing to lend a helping hand. He will be missed and remembered by all who knew him.
Visitation for George will be held today (Tuesday) from 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. from Patten Funeral Home and Chapel, 71 Union St., Glace Bay. Funeral service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in St. Luke’s Anglican Church, Port Caledonia, with the Fr. Paul C. Findlay and Rev. Margaret Collins officiating. Interment will be in parish cemetery.
Donations may be made to St. Luke’s Anglican Church, Port Caledonia or a charity of your choice.
The Thistle Lodge will meet at the funeral home Tuesday at 7 p.m. for service.
Lloyd James (Buddy) MacInnis
65, Lower Sackville
Lloyd James (Buddy) MacInnis, 65, of Lower Sackville, passed away Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, at the New Halifax Infirmary, QEII.
Born March 6, 1935, in Massachusetts, he was a son of the late Dan and Mary Anne (MacKenzie) MacInnis.
He was a 35-year veteran employee of Transport Canada, working as a firefighter at the Halifax International Airport and retired in 1995.
He enjoyed doing ‘home improvements’ and was never quite satisfied until things were just right.
Surviving are his wife of 36 years, the former Dorothy Irene Donovan, formerly of Dominion, C.B.; daughter, Karla McCullough (Simon), Brampton, Ont.; son, Perry MacInnis, Timberlea; sister, Sr. Catherine MacInnis, CND, St. Theresa Convent, Sydney; brother, Howard (Phyllis) MacInnis, Dartmouth; many nieces, nephews, and their families.
He was predeceased by sisters, Helen (Girlie) MacPherson, Josephine (Mickey) Poirier, Sr. Rita MacInnis, brothers, James, Joseph, Neil, Malcolm.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Dr., Lower Sackville. Funeral service 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. John Vianney Roman Catholic Church, Lower Sackville, Fr. S. Baraniak officiating. Interment at a later date.

Kenneth Hugh MacLean passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001.
Born in Quarry, St. Ann’s on March 23, 1936, he was the son of the late Fraser and Christie-Ann (MacDonald) MacLean.
He is survived by his loving wife, Joan (Spence); daughters, Margie Babineau (Donnie Porter), Linda (Brent) Duff, Joanne (Barry) Laite, Carol Ann (Gordie) Lynk and five grandchildren, Rhonda and Cory Babineau, Jennifer, Kristine and Victoria Laite. Also surviving is brother, Duncan MacLean (Louise).
Predeceased by sisters, Rhoda Aucoin, Dora and Catherine MacLean.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, Jan. 4, at 2 p.m. at Sydney Gospel Hall, Whitney Avenue, Sydney, John (Jr.) MacDonald officiating.
