Maria Kathleen Nicholson
71, Englishtown
Mary Kathleen Nicholson, 71, of Englishtown, died March 10, 2001 in the Northside General Hospital.
Born in South Bar, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Katherine (Clark) MacLean. She was raised by her aunt Christina and uncle Kenneth Morrison and their family of Duncan, Lottie, Catherine, Margaret and George.
She was an adherent of St. Mark’s Presbyterian Church, Englishtown.
She is survived by her husband, John Nicholson; sons, Alex, Clark, Englishtown; daughters, Audrey, Toronto, Ont., Marie Gregoris (Joe), Toronto, Ont., Anna MacDonald (Greg), Halifax; brothers, George, Eddie; sisters, Irene, Viola, Linda, Edna; grandchild, Mitchell Gregoris, Toronto, Ont.
She was predeceased by brothers, Charlie, Leslie, Alfred.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today, March 12. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, both in St. Mark’s Presbyterian Church, Englishtown, Rev. Lloyd Murdoch officiating. Burial in Bayview Cemetery, Englishtown. Arrangements under the direction of MacAskill Funeral Home, Baddeck.
Mary Josephine Casey
North East Margaree
Mary Josephine Casey, formerly of Dominion, passed away peacefully in North East Margaree on Monday, March 12, 2001.
Born in Glace Bay on Dec. 1, 1917, she was the daughter of Alfred and Margaret (MacIntyre) Pickup of Tower Road.
Predeceased by her husband, Edward in 1954, she devoted her life to raising her six children and providing unending love and support to her grandchildren.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Marguerite (Philip) Sprague, England, and sons, Sheldon (Marie), North East Margaree, Pat (Lynda), Ontario, and Jimmy (Judy), Ontario. She is also survived by her daughters-in-law, Lila, Glace Bay, and Gloria, Ontario. She will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Lorne, Cathy, Gwen, Arlene, Michelle, Basil, Robert, Janice, Erin, Meghan, Evelyn, Kelly, John, Mark, Patrick, Liam, Trent and Troy. Her love extends to her great-grandchildren, Katie, Emily, Blair, Casey, Dylan, Amanda, Adam, Joshua, Maryssa, Keegan and Damien.
Also left to mourn are her sisters, Sarah McMullin and Margaret (Doug) LeBlanc and her brother, Joseph (Mary) Pickup.
Besides her parents and husband, Mary was predeceased by her sons, Alfred (Junie) and Brian, granddaughter, Regan and brothers, Alfred ‘Buddy’ and Hughie.
Mary will always be remembered by her family and friends for her generous spirit, keen sense of humour and devotion to her faith.
Visitation will take place at Curry Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay, Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated Friday at 2 p.m. in St. Eugene’s Church, Dominion, with Fr. Jim Oliver officiating. Interment to follow at a later date.
Family flowers only please. Those who wish, may make donations to the Canadian Cancer Society in Mary’s memory.
Florence Katherine (Moore) Jordan
87, New Glasgow
Florence Katherine (Moore) Jordan, 87, of the Shiretown Nursing Home, Pictou, formerly of the Hillside View Senior Citizens, 235 Little Harbour Rd., New Glasgow, passed away on Tuesday, March 13, 2001, in the Shiretown Nursing Home.
Born in Piedmont, she was the daughter of the late Leapold and Elan Napier.
She was a resident of Pictou County for most of her life prior to which she had resided in Leitches Creek, Cape Breton for 15 years. She was a member of Trinity United Church, New Glasgow and had worked as a babysitter for a number of children in her earlier years.
She is survived by a son, Hilton and daughter-in-law, Ann, Riverview, N.B.; grandchildren, Dan, Vancouver, Kelly (Troy) Reid, Pictou, Darryl (Allyson), Sarnia, Ont.; twin great-grandchildren, Kayla and MacKenzie Reid, who were her pride and joy; sister, Jenny Napier, Sadie Sullivan, both of Riverton, N.S., and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Archibald Moore, second husband, Frank Jordan, brother, Mike, sisters, Annie MacLean, Murial Allen and Bessie Sutherland.
Her remains will rest in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow, with visitation today (Thursday) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. from where funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday with Rev. Chalmers Hatcher officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens.
Donations in her memory may be made to the Nova Scotia Diabetes Association or to the VON.
Christopher Daniel Grant MacPherson
16, Lower Sackville
Christopher Daniel Grant MacPherson, 16, of Lower Sackville, formerly of Pleasant Bay, passed away Sunday, March 18, 2001, in the IWK Grace Hospital, Halifax.
Born in Sydney, Cape Breton, he was the son of Audrey McManus, Lower Sackville and Steven MacPherson, Pleasant Bay.
Christopher was a student at Sackville High, Lower Sackville. He was currently in Grade 10. His love for people and school brought him a great circle of friends. He also had a great love for music and life in general. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his stepfather, Monty McManus; stepmother, Elizabeth Louise MacPherson; sister, Leah MacPherson, Pleasant Bay, stepsisters, Caleigh Morrison, Pleasant Bay, Trudy McManus of Belnan; brothers, Kenneth MacPherson, Lower Sackville, Scott MacPherson, Halifax, Adam Burton, Whites Lake and stepbrother, Mark McManus, Elmsdale.
Visitation will be held in T.K. Barnard Funeral Home, 527 Sackville Dr., Lower Sackville, today (Tuesday), 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, 11 a.m. in Knox United Church, Lower Sackville, Rev. Blake Caldwell officiating. A memorial service and interment to follow will be held in St. Andrew’s United Church, Pleasant Bay at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family requests balloons for Christopher or memorial donations to the IWK hospital, The Children’s Wish Foundation or MPS Foundation.
Roy Walter White
85, Windsor, N.S.
Walter Roy White, 85, of Windsor Elms, Windsor, formerly of Sydney, Cape Breton, passed away peacefully, Sunday, March 18, 2001, at the Windsor Elms Senior Citizens Home.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Walter and Julie (Cooper) White.
He was a long-time member of Christ Anglican Church, Sydney.
Roy was active in many sports in his younger years and later in life continued to enjoy skating and golf. He was a long time member of Lingan Golf and Country Club. Roy worked for over 40 years at the steel plant in Sydney.
He enjoyed spending time with his family. He was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed.
Special thanks to the staff of the Windsor Elms for taking great care of Roy.
He is survived by one son, William ‘Bill’, daughter-in-law, Kathleen (Sibley) and two grandchildren, Ryan and Lindsay, Falmouth, N.S.; nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Isabel (Stewart) White in 1997, and brothers, William, Harold and Donald.
Cremation has taken place. No visitation by request. Memorial funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 21 in Christ Church, Sydney, Rev. Glen Kent officiating. Interment will be at Hardwood Hill Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia, the Windsor Elms Senior Citizens’ Home or to a charity of choice.
