James Christopher (Chrisy) Tighe
32, New Victoria
James Christopher Tighe, 32, of New Victoria, died suddenly Friday, March 30, 2001.
Born in New Waterford, he was the son of Jackie and Rebecca (Laffin) Tighe, New Waterford.
Chris graduated from Breton Education Centre, class of 1986.
Chrisy was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish. He loved children and was a special uncle to all his nieces and nephews. Chris loved music and loved to laugh with his many friends. He will be fondly remembered for his big heart and warm smile.
Besides his parents, he is survived by six brothers, Patrick, Terry, Peter, Tommy, Wayne (Selena), Jackie (Karen), New Victoria; two sisters, Madonna, New Victoria, Mrs. Diane (Ray) McEachern, New Waterford.
He is also survived by 15 nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by one niece, Melissa McEachern; paternal grandparents, Tom and Catherine Tighe; and maternal grandparents, Peter and Agnes Laffin.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. Funeral is under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, New Waterford. Funeral mass will be announced at a later date during the week.
As an expression of sympathy for Chrisy, donations can be made to a charity of choice or the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.

Rose Marie Fewer
66, Howie Centre
Rose Marie ‘Tootsie’ Fewer, 66, of Howie Centre, passed away suddenly Sunday, April 1, 2001, at home.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Helen (Burt) Vigneau.
She was a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 151, Howie Centre. Rose was also an avid bowler in the City Ladies League.
She was survived by her husband of 46 years, Murray Edward Fewer; two sons, Glenn (Patricia) and Doug (Debbie), both of Sydney; one daughter, Shelly (Pat), Antigonish; three grandchildren, Glennie, Darlene and Douglas and a great-granddaughter, Emma Nicole; sister, Gloria, Sydney; two brothers, Edward (Maureen), Dartmouth, and Eugene, East Bay; stepmother, Violet Vigneau, Sydney.
She was predeceased by a brother, Buddy and a sister, Shirley.
The late Mrs. Fewer will have no visitation. Cremation has taken place. Funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 5 in St. Theresa’s Church with Rev. Angus MacDougall officiating. Interment at a later date. Reception to follow at R.C. Legion Branch 151, Howie Centre.
Donations may be made to the Poppy Fund, Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 151.
Arrangements entrusted to the T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel.

Didace Angus Cormier
87, Belle Cote
Didace Angus Cormier, 87, of Belle Cote, Inverness County, died Monday, April 2, 2001, at the Sacred Heart Community Health Centre, Cheticamp.
Born in Belle Cote, he was the son of the late Joseph E. and Marie Helene (LeBlanc) Cormier.
He was a member of St. Michael’s Church, Margaree.
Mr. Cormier was a veteran of the Second World War; a member of the KOC, Margaree; a member of the Senior Citizens Club of Margaree and St. Joseph DuMoine New Horizon. He was a leader of the 4-H Club, Margaree for many years. He was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 32, Cheticamp and was a carpenter most of his life.
He is survived by one daughter, Lorraine (Mrs. Gaston Chiasson), Belle Cote; one brother, Simon (Therese), London, Ont.; longtime friend, Priscille Poirier; two grandchildren, Cedric and Renée Blais; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Catherine Doucet, seven brothers, Arthur, Constant, Tommy, James, Alex, Gregory and Pierre, two sisters, Emma and Lucie.
Visitation will be held Thursday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in St. Michael’s Church, Margaree. Funeral mass Friday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Michael’s Church, Margaree, with Fr. Peter MacLeod officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery.
Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of N.S. or to Sacred Heart Hospital Charitable Foundation.
Arrangements under the direction of Cheticamp Funeral Services Ltd.

Maureen A. Crowdis
52, Hillside Boularderie
Maureen Arbella Crowdis, age 52, a resident of St. James Road, Hillside Boularderie, died Tuesday, April 3, 2001, at the Northside General Hospital in North Sydney.
Born in North Sydney, she was the daughter of Martha (MacFarlane) MacGregor of Mapleview Manor in North Sydney and the late John MacGregor.
She was a member of Drummond Memorial United Church in Ross Ferry.
Besides her mother, she is survived by her husband, Ross; son, Jonathan; three sisters, Betty (Mrs. Milo Varljen), Catherine (Mrs. Fred Tesarch) and Joan Sutherland, all of Toronto.
She was predeceased by her father.
There will be no visitation by request. Cremation has taken place.
Memorial service will be held Saturday, April 7, 2001 at 2 p.m. from Drummond Memorial United Church in Ross Ferry with Rev. Louis Ihasz officiating. Burial to take place at a later date in Lakeside Cemetery in North Sydney.
Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the Hospice/Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of W. J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney.

Dolena Margaret MacKeigan
76, Lunenburg
Dolena Margaret MacKeigan, 76, of Lunenburg died Monday, April 2, 2001, at Harbour View Haven Home for Special Care, Lunenburg.
Born in Sandfield, Cape Breton, she was the daughter of the late Neil and Margaret (MacDonald) MacKeigan.
She was a member of Central United Church, Lunenburg and the Mary Gormley Unit of the UCW. Dolena was a member of the Bluenose Senior Citizens’ Club, Lunenburg.
She is survived by daughters, Illyah May MacKeigan, Dartmouth, Heather MacKeigan, Inverness, Sarah and her husband, James Chaisson, Port Hawkesbury; sons, Angus MacLeod and wife, Patricia, Glace Bay, Roddie MacLeod, Port Hawkesbury; sisters, Margaret MacDonald, Loch Lomond, Cornellia and her husband, Edward Young, Halifax; brother, Archibald MacKeigan, Toronto; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was predeceased by an infant brother and a sister, Dolena Margaret.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 No. 3 Highway, Lunenburg, Rev. Grace Caines-Corkum officiating. Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Lunenburg.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Central United Church, Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital or to any charity.
