The memorial mass for the late James Christopher (Chrisy) Tighe, age 32, of New Victoria, will be held Friday, April 6, 2001, at 2 p.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, New Victoria, Fr. Jake Andrea officiating.
Donations may be made to a charity of choice or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.

Doris Rose Stubbert
66, Groves Point
Mrs. Doris Rose Stubbert, 66, of 552 Groves Point Road, Hillside Boularderie, died Saturday, April 28, 2001, at the Northside General Hospital, North Sydney.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Ivy (Graves) Pendlebury.
She is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, William A. Stubbert; daughters, Diane (Jeffrey) Nelson, Sharon (Rev. Phil) Clayton, and Wendy Stubbert; sisters, Ivy Kirklund, Violet MacLeod; a brother, Bert Pendlebury; and 11 grandchildren.
She was predeceased by brothers, Art, Victor, Fred and Roger.
Visitation will be in the Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home today from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday 11 a.m. with Rev. Phil Clayton officiating. Burial will take place at Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Cecilia Theresa MacNeil
Big Pond
Cecilia Theresa MacNeil, 72, passed away at her home on MacNeil Lane, Big Pond, Thursday evening, April 5, 2001.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Patrick and Catherine (Burrows) Ryan.
She will be sadly missed by her daughter, Josephine; her son, John Edward; and her granddaughter, Laurie; also by four brothers, Johnny (Alice), Glace Bay, Tommy (Audrey), Portapique, Patrick (Louise), Edmonton, Michael, Toronto; and three sisters, Mary MacIntyre, Glace Bay, Rita MacInnis, Vancouver, Georgina, Sydney River.
She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph (Joe Johnny) MacNeil, also by a daughter, Frances in infancy, a sister, Eileen and her companion of many years, Gordon MacEachern.
The late Mrs. MacNeil will have visitation today (Saturday), 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral mass will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 8 in St. Mary’s Church, Big Pond with Fr. J. Gillis officiating. Cremation to follow with burial at a later date.
“Cecilia” will be remembered as a person of cheerful and kindly disposition, who liked nothing better than welcoming her friends to her cozy home and sharing a good cup of tea and a good laugh with them.
Memorial donations may be made to the Nova Scotia Lung Association or to a charity of one’s choice.
Jacob Allan Scott Best
Jacob Allan Scott Best, born Feb. 1, 2001, passed away peacefully April 6, 2001 at home.
Jacob is survived by his parents, Gregory and Tanya; sister, Cassidy; maternal grandparents, Darlene (Andy), of Ingonish and Archie MacDonald, St. Margaret’s Village; paternal grandparents, Stuart and Willma Best, Ingonish; great-grandmothers, Marion MacLellan, Meat Cove and Julia MacDonald, Bay Road Valley; uncle, Graham (Dorothy); cousins, Karlie and Tanner Best, Ingonish; and several great-uncles, great-aunts and great-cousins.
He was predeceased by his maternal great-grandfather, Allan MacLellan; and paternal great-grandparents, Albert and Grace Best.
Funeral service will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in St. Peter’s Church, Ingonish, with Rev. John Morrison officiating. Burial under the direction of the Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home will be in the parish cemetery.
Raymond Joseph Perry
53, New Campbellton
Raymond Joseph Perry, 53, of New Campbellton, died unexpectedly Saturday April, 7, 2001 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
He was the son of the late Albert and Mildred Perry, of Cambridge Mass.
Ray was a member of the Carpenters Union Local 1588 and a former employee of Joneljim Construction Ltd. He was an avid hunter and fly fisherman.
Surviving are his wife, Helen, and their four children, Jeannine, Jonathan, Jacob and Jennifer; his brothers, Ronald (Donna), New Hampshire and Richard (Patricia), Bridgewater, Mass.
He was predeceased by his sister, Rosemary Perry.
Ray will be sadly missed by his special friend, Jacinta Gracie, and by his family, many friends and co-workers.
Visitation on Tuesday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in G. R. Francis & Son Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. The funeral will take place on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church Bras d’Or, Rev. Bedford Doucette officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.
Catherine MacDonald
89, Middle River
Catherine MacDonald, 89, Middle River, died Monday, April 9, 2001, in Victoria County Memorial Hospital.
Born in Gairloch Mountain, she was a daughter of the late Roderick and Flora (Campbell) Nicholson.
She was a homemaker and a member of Middle River United Church.
She is survived by her daughters, Eleanor Peterson, Lucy Chisholm (Francis) and Florence MacCuspic (Charles); 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
She was predeceased by her husband, Archie, grandson, Robert, brother, Neil, sisters, Mary, Annie and Johnena.
Visitation 2-9 p.m. Wednesday, April 11 in MacAskill’s Funeral Home. Funeral 2 p.m. Thursday, April 12, in Middle River United Church, Rev. Linda Scherzinger officiating. Burial in Middle River Cemetery.

Charles B. Giovannetti
75, Port Morien
Charles Brady Giovannetti, 75, of Port Morien, passed away on Thursday, April 12, 2001, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
He worked as a carpenter for 45 years. He was a member of St. Mary’s Parish, Port Morien, and although not recently active, he had been a charter member of the Port Morien Volunteer Fire Department.
Charles is survived by his wife, Lillian (nee Wadden); his children, Zilla (Eddie) Daigle, Port Morien, Mary Giovannetti (Bob) Seward, Coquitlam, B.C., Donald (Heather), Port Morien, and Charlene Giovannetti (Darrell) King, Albert Bridge.
He cherished his grandchildren and will be sadly missed by Adrianne and Jennifer Daigle, Matthew, Brianne and Patricia Seward, Mora Dawn and Alison Giovannetti and Jara and Alysha King.
Also surviving are brothers, John, Port Morien, Raymond, Calgary, Joseph, Port Morien; and sisters, Florence, British Columbia, Eileen, Smithville, Ont., and Dolores, Glace Bay.
He was predeceased by his mother and father, Joseph and Mary (Thomas) Giovannetti, brother, Clement and sisters, Marguerite MacNeil, Gladys MacNeil and Colleen MacNeil.
Sadly Charles’ brother Edmund of Hamilton, Ont. died on this date, April 12.
Visitation was held at Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay, Friday, April 13, 2001.
Funeral service will be conducted at St. Mary’s Church, Port Morien, Saturday, April 14 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Peter Leblanc officiating.
