Caroline (Power) Graham
66, Grand Mira South
Caroline Theresa (Power) Graham, 66, of Grand Mira South, passed away on Tuesday, April 10, 2001, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late Carrie (Hart) and Edward Power.
She was a member of St. Margaret’s Church in Grand Mira. Carrie loved to play the piano and also enjoyed a good game of tarabish.
Carrie is survived by her husband, Jimmy (Gami); sons, Steve (Lucille), Sydney River, David, Grand Mira; grandchildren, Nicki and Ryan; sister, Fay, Cambridge, Ont.
She was predeceased by her brothers, Richard and Bernie (in infancy).
Visitation will be held Monday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, Sydney. Funeral mass will be held Tuesday, 11 a.m. in St. Margaret’s Church, Grand Mira, with Fr. Bernie Campbell officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.

Roderick Hector MacLeod
65, Cape North
Mr. Roderick Hector MacLeod of Cape North, Victoria County, died peacefully at Buchanan Memorial Health Center, Neil’s Harbour on Friday, April 13, 2001, after a brief battle with cancer.
Born April 25, 1935 in Cape North, he was the son of Helen (Sloan) and the late Collie MacLeod.
He was a member of the Cape North United Church and was employed at the Cape Breton National Park for the past 47 seasons. He was an avid sports fisherman and loved the outdoors.
He is survived by two daughters, Delores (Mrs. Robert Neal), Ingonish, Audrey (Mrs. David Johnson) Edmonton, Alta.; two sons, Bruce (Megan), Guelph, Ont., Gordon (Helen), Guelph, Ont.; five grandchildren, Natasha, Andrew, Zachary, Raylene and Madeline; three sisters, Georgina Phillips, Margaree, Bessie (Mrs. Russell MacAskill), Port Hawkesbury, Dorothy, Cape North; and brothers, Murdock and Alfred, both of Cape North.
He was predeceased by his wife, Effie, brothers, Fraser and Frederick and grandson, Christopher.
As dad wished, there will be no visitation. Committal services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Aspy Bay United Cemetery with Rev. Chris McCann officiating.
Arrangements under the direction of Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home,
Memorial donations may be made to Palliative Care at Buchanan Memorial Health Center or a charity of choice.
Rory will be sadly missed by his friends and family.

I. Eleanor MacKinnon
88, Rudderham Road
I. Eleanor MacKinnon, 88, of Rudderham Road, passed away Saturday, April 14, 2001, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Point Edward, she was a daughter of the late Alexander and Emma (Lewis) Lewis.
She was a choir member, organist for more than 50 years and guild member of St. John’s Anglican Church, Point Edward.
She is survived by two daughters, Wanda MacKinnon (Paul Vassallo), Sydney River, Trudy (Danny) Kelly, Musquodoboit Harbour; grandson, Scott Kelly; sister, Frances Smith, Edwardsville; and several nieces and nephews.
Eleanor was predeceased by her husband, John, in 1990; sister, Rita; brother, Stewart.
Visitation will be held in Sydney Memorial Chapel today (Monday) from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. with funeral service in the chapel Tuesday 11 a.m. with Rev. Harold Brown officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice.

Mary Campbell
71, Davenport, Florida
Mary Campbell, 71, of Davenport, Fla., passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2001.
Born in Port Morien, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Anne Mae (Degaust) MacAskill.
She will be sadly missed by her loving husband of 51 years, Stephen; sons, Barry, John, Ronald (Shawn), James, Thomas; daughter, Lori (Randy) Mayhew; 10 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; sisters, Katherine Stephenson, Theresa Saie, Joan Gerhardt, Jessie Herandez, Patricia Tracey, and Beverley Fediuk.
She was predeceased by her brother, Joseph MacAskill, sister, Yvonne MacKenzie.
Memorial mass to be held Saturday, April 21 at St. Ann’s Church, Haines City, Fla.

Mary Helen Penny
49, Sydney Forks
Mary Helen, 49, of Sydney Forks, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, April 10, 2001, in Cuba.
Born in Sydney, C.B., on Aug. 25, 1951, she was the daughter of William and late Leonie (MacDonald) Penny.
Mary Helen lived her life to the fullest. She made people laugh when she walked into the room with her great sense of humour. She enjoyed bowling, bingo, fishing and partying, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her friends and family.
She is survived by sisters, Sandra Marshall, Scarborough, Ont., Colleen Penny, Sydney, Heather (Louis) Grosset, Sydney, Florence (Douglas) Taylor, Sydney, and Sara Phillips, Hamilton, Ont.; three brothers, Billy (Betty) Penny, Sydney, Neil Penny, London, Ont., and Glen Penny, Sydney; seven nieces, Bonnie Jean, Penney, Crystal, Leanne, Sheena, Kimberly and Nicole; six nephews, Kenny, Che, Louis, Kari, Rumpy and Daniel. Besides her family she is also survived by companion, Lorne Burrell and his son Josh.
Funeral times will be announced.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, Sydney.

80, South Haven
Nora A. Ross, 80, of South Haven, died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at Alderwood Rest Home, Baddeck.
Born in St. Ann’s she was the daughter of the late Malcolm A. and Margaret (MacLeod) Morrison.
She was a housewife and a member of Ephriam Scott Presbyterian Church, South Haven, South Haven Community Hall Organization, past-president with lifetime membership of WMS (David Livingstone Chapter). She was also a member of Victoria County Memorial Hospital Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the Red Cross.
She is survived by her sons, Murray (Ann), Alberta, Morris (Dee Dee) Merris, South Haven, and Frank (Joan), Alberta; brother, Donald Morrison, Sydney; sister, Annie Nicholson, Baddeck; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was predeceased by her husband, Norman, stepmother, Hughena (MacKenzie) Morrison and brother, Angus Frank.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of MacAskill Funeral Home, Baddeck. The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, at Ephriam Scott Presbyterian Church, South Haven, Rev. Lloyd Murdock officiating. Burial will be in Harbourview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ephraim Scott Presbyterian Church Building Fund, Alzheimer's Society or the Alderwood Guest Home.

Memorial Service
Memorial services for the late John Austin VanAuken, who died Friday, April 20, 2001, will be held today at 2 p.m. in Carman United Church, Sydney Mines, with Rev. Karen Ralph officiating. Burial will take place at a later date.
