Earl A. MacKinnon
76, Sydney
Earl Alexander McKinnon, 76, a resident of 113 Caledonia St., North Sydney, died peacefully Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at home.
Born in North Sydney, he was a son of the late Joseph and Ellen (Walsh) McKinnon.
He was a veteran of the Second World War, serving overseas in Italy and England with the Canadian Army, Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 19, North Sydney. Earl was employed in his younger years as a coal trimmer at the coal pier in North Sydney, as a driver with Lamey’s Garage and Jabalee’s grocery stores, at the Point Edward Naval Base and later as a mail handler with Canada Post until his retirement.
He was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, North Sydney.
Surviving are sons, Harold (Mary), Ball’s Creek, Leo, at home, Bobby (Judy), Saskatoon; daughters, Sandra, Genevieve (Mrs. John Melbourne) and Nancy, all of Lower Sackville, Marilyn (Mrs. Stewart MacAulay), Millville; nine grandchildren, Scott, Troy and Mark Delaney, Jodie and Jonathan Melbourne, Michael and Gina McKinnon, Kelsey and Ryan MacAulay; one great-grandson, Liam; sister, Fannie Prince, Sydney Mines; stepsister, Jessie MacDonald, Calgary, and stepbrother, Joseph McKinnon, North Sydney.
He was predeceased by his wife Margaret (King) McKinnon; sisters, Mary Hall, Christine Day, Josephine Gordon, Blanche Parsons, Mame MacDonald, Evelyn and Sadie; brothers, George, James, Barney and John and stepbrothers, Roddie and Michael.
Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today (Thursday) in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral mass Friday, 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church with Rev. Tom MacNeil officiating. Burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
Memorial donations may be made to the Hospice Palliative Care of Cape Breton.
J. Donald MacMillan
69, Sydney
J. Donald MacMillan, 69, of Moxham Drive, Sydney, passed away Sunday, March 25, 2001, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Hector Clarence and Winnifred (Butler) MacMillan.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Parish, Sydney.
Donald was employed with Sydney Steel Corp. in the metallurgical department for 42 years, retiring in 1993.
Surviving are his wife, Peggy (MacKinnon) MacMillan; three sons, Brian, Toronto, Lorne and Bruce, both of Halifax; sister, Shirley (Frank) Moran, Charlottetown, P.E.I., and several nieces and nephews.
Donald was predeceased by brothers, Hector (Ted) and Allison and sisters, Winnifred MacDonald and Dorothy MacIntyre.
There will be no visitation for the late Mr. MacMillan; cremation has taken place.
There will be a memorial mass at 9 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, Wednesday, March 28, 2001. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of one’s choice.

James R. MacPhee
78, Sydney
James R. MacPhee, age 78, of Pleasant Street, Sydney, passed away Sunday, March 25, 2001, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Daniel and Elizabeth (MacNeil) MacPhee.
He was a lifetime member of Sacred Heart Parish, Sydney and was active in various parish councils over the years. He was past president of the board of directors of the MacGillivary Guest Home and was honoured for 25 years of dedicated services. A member of Branch 12 Legion, Sydney, he served in the RCAF during the Second World War. He was employed with the Sydney Steel Corp. for 46 years, including 25 years as foreman of the electrical repair shop.
Surviving are sons, Gary (Sheila), Guelph, Ont., Roger (Judi), Dartmouth; daughters, Jane (Robin) Parke, Toronto, Ont., Judith, Sydney, Eleanor, Kitchener, Ont.; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and sister, Sadie, Toronto.
He was recently predeceased by Dorothy, his wife of 55 years. He was also predeceased by sisters, Anne, Mary and Margaret and brother, Norman.
Visitation for the late Mr. MacPhee will be Wednesday, March 28, 2001, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel.
Funeral mass will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday in Sacred Heart Church with interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
Donations may be made to the MacGillivary Guest Home, Sydney or the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Lauchie Daniel Campbell
90, Sydney
Lauchie Daniel Campbell, 90, a resident of Breton Bay Nursing Home, formerly the Cabot House, Kings Road, passed away at the nursing home on Tuesday, March 27, 2001.
Born in Marble Mountain, he was a son of the late Alex J. and Katie Bell (Morrison) Campbell.
Lauchie was formerly employed at T. Eaton and Co. and later Oak Hall Men’s Wear, Sydney, retiring as a court caller for the Cape Breton County Court House. He was a member of St. Andrew’s United Church, Sydney.
Surviving are a niece, Glenny Perch, Quincy, Mass.; nephew, Peter MacInnis and family, Coxheath; cousins, Isabel (Sandy) MacInnis and Agnes Poushay, both of Sydney, Barbara MacMillan, Marble Mountain, Jerry Anderson, Truro, and Campbell Smith, Richmond Hill, Ont.
He was predeceased by his wife, Marjorie C. (Lewis), brother, Malcolm and niece, Irene Kamel.
Visitation will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel today (Wednesday), 7-9 p.m. and Thursday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held at St. Andrew’s Church, Friday, 2 p.m. with Rev. Stephen Mills officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Nova Scotia Lung Association.
Adeline King
68, Sydney
Adeline King, 68, of Hankard Street, Sydney, passed away on Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Salvatore and Marie (Camus) Pino.
She is survived by her husband, George King; sons, Kenneth (Siliena), Sydney, George (Carol), Ontario, Glen (Liz), Ottawa, and Albert (Eva), Alberta; daughters, Helen (David Mullins), New Waterford, and Deborah, Annapolis Valley; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Adeline is also survived by two brothers, Anthony ‘Tony’, Sydney, and Harvey, Cheticamp; nine sisters, Frances Baryluk, Matilda ‘Tillie’ Epifano, Germaine Jacobs and Virginia Pyke, all of Sydney, Margaret ‘Margie’ Parks, North Sydney, Rose Marie Bertolo, Stoney Creek, Ont., Cecilia Pino, New Jersey, and Lydia Camus and Hilda Camus, both of Cheticamp; sisters-in-law, Lucy Pino and Alma Pino, Sydney.
Adeline was predeceased by five brothers, Rudolph in infancy and Americo, Mario, Johnny, Joseph and a sister, Rita.
Visitation will be held in Sydney Memorial Chapel today (Friday) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at Holy Redeemer Church, Saturday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Errol MacDonald officiating.

Margaret Currie

Margaret Currie, formerly of Castle Drive, Sydney, passed away Friday, March 30, 2001, at Breton Bay Nursing Home, where she has been a resident for the past four years.
Born in Whitney Pier, she was the daughter of the late Colin and Anne (Carlin) Sparling.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She was a member of St. Anthony Daniel Parish, Sydney.
She is survived by a son, Blaise (Barbara); two grandchildren, Alison (Bill) MacIsaac, Halifax, Colin (fiancee, Stephanie); one great-grandson, Colin Joseph MacIsaac; several nieces and nephews.
Margaret was predeceased by her husband, Dan J., daughter, Delores, grandson, Gregory, sister, Christine MacNeil and brother, George.
There will be no visitation. A memorial mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. in St. Anthony Daniel Church, Monday, April 2, Rev. Leo Boone officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
