Neil (Buddy) MacIntyre
65, Sydney
Neil A. (Buddy) MacIntyre, 65, Brickyard Road, Albert Bridge, passed away suddenly Wednesday, April 4, 2001, at home, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Albert Bridge, he was a son of the late Angus and Annie Mae (MacCuish) MacIntyre.
He was a former employee of the Fortress of Louisbourg National Park, retiring in 1997. In his early years he worked with his father in the lumbering industry.
He is survived by one brother, Donald J., sister-in-law, Freda, Dartmouth and their family, Lisa, Laurel and David.
Besides his parents, Buddy was predeceased by his stepmother Katherine MacIntyre on March 5, 2001.
Visitation will be held in Sydney Memorial Chapel, Thursday 7-9 p.m. and Friday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will take place at Union Presbyterian Church, Albert Bridge, Saturday 2 p.m. with Pastor Kevin Richardson officiating. Interment in Lochend Cemetery, Catalone at a later date.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Canadian Cancer Society, The VON or Palliative Care.
Mildred Veronica Troke
68, Sydney
Mildred Veronica Troke, 89, a resident of Breton Bay Nursing Home, formerly of Alexandra Street, Sydney, passed away at the nursing home Wednesday, April 4, 2001.
Born in Louisbourg, she was a daughter of the late James Thomas and Mary Ann (Cryer) Kelly.
Mildred was an adherent of the United Protestant Church, Sydney River. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Surviving are her daughter, Patricia (Frank) Green, Sydney River; son, George William ‘Bill’ (Joan) Kelly, Sydney; stepson, Gordon C. (Isabel) Troke, Coxheath; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Willard C., daughter, Iris, sisters, Mary, Theresa and Anne, brothers, George, John and James.
Visitation will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel, Friday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the chapel, Saturday 11 a.m., with Rev. Alan McIntosh officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society.
Angus Hector MacDonald
89, Sydney
Angus Hector MacDonald, 89, of Breton Bay Nursing Home and formerly of Sydney Forks and North River, passed away Saturday, April 7, 2001 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital after a brief illness.
Born at the family residence, Feb. 11, 1912, at Meadow Road, North River, he was the son of the late Henry and Annie (MacKay) MacDonald and was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church in Sydney and also a member of the Cape Breton Gaelic Society.
Angus worked at the Sydney Engineering and Drydock during the ’40s and ’50s and was then employed by Municipal Ready Mix for 26 years until his retirement. Angus loved animals, especially cats, although you could find him every evening feeding the ducks as well.
Angus enjoyed working in his flower and vegetable gardens. He also loved square dancing, which he did until he was 88 years old, but most of all he enjoyed good food and good company! There was rarely a family or community event that he didn’t attend.
He is survived by his wife, Alexina (MacDonald), whom he married on July 29, 1950. He is also survived by special nephew, Archie P. (Bill) MacDonald (Elinor), Westmount; and by special niece Annie Mae MacDonald, Baddeck. He is also survived by many other nieces and nephews who were very dear to him as well.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Kenneth and Peter, and John, in infancy: sisters, Annie Grant, Jessie Mae Pyke, Katie Ann MacKenzie, Belle Smith and Christena (Tina) MacAskill.
Visitation will be held Monday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel, George St., Sydney.
Funeral services to be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Bethel Presbyterian Church, Rev. Robert Lyle officiating, with burial at a later date in Riverside Cemetery in North River. Donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Bernard Francis (Tanner) Delaney
76, Sydney
Bernard Francis (Tanner) Delaney, 76, of Sydney, formerly of 1318 George St., died peacefully Saturday, April 7, 2001, at Taigh Na Mara, Glace Bay.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Bernard and Sarah (Wade) Delaney of Sydney.
He served in the navy from 1942-45. He was a member of Ashby Legion 138, Naval Veterans, Club 55 and Sydney Pensioners Club, as well as their bowling teams. He was a founding member and former trustee of the Mira Road Fire Department, a member of Immaculate Heart Parish and former member of the AOH.
He was employed as a general foreman of OS mechanical department of Sydney Steel, retiring in 1984 after over 40 years of service.
He was an avid fisherman and hunter who enjoyed spending time at his cabin in Oban.
Surviving are three daughters, Brenda, Kamloops, B.C., Karen, Vancouver, B.C., Nancy (Mrs. Jason Schella), Halifax; sons, Brian (Faye) Delaney, Bedford, Gerry (Sandy) Delaney, Sydney; three sisters, Annie (Michael) MacDonald, Clara Lloyd, Mamie (Bernard) Doucet, brothers, Michael (Eva) Delaney, Alphonse (Theresa) Delaney, all of Sydney; five grandchildren, Shelley, Jana, Ashley, Samantha and Jeffrey.
He was predeceased by his loving wife, Jean, daughter, Constance, brother, Bill, and his sister, Margaret (Peggy) Hartigan.
Visitation for the late Mr. Bernard Francis (Tanner) Delaney was held in T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, Monday, April 9, from 2-4, 7-9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at Immaculate Heart Parish at 11 a.m. today (Tuesday), April 10, 2001, Rev. McDow officiating, with interment in Resurrection Cemetery.
Donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association of charity of one’s choice.
Catherine (McIsaac) LeBlanc
95, Sydney
Catherine (McIsaac) LeBlanc, 95, of Sydney, formerly of Big Pond, passed away peacefully, Monday, April 9, 2001, at “My Cape Breton Home for Seniors.”
Born at Big Pond, she was the daughter of the late Dan W. and Ann (Gilles) McIsaac, Big Pond. She was a member of St. Mary’s Parish, East Bay.
She is survived by and was a dear mother-in-law to James Donahoe, Mississauga, Ont.; loving grandmother of Catherine Welling and Ann Lougheed, both of Mississauga, Ont., Mary Louise Pauly, Seattle, James E.R. Donahoe, Vancouver. Catherine will be fondly remembered by great-grandchildren, Monica, Mathew, Karl, Kaela, Lindsay, Peter, Ryan, Colin and Emmett.
She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond C. LeBlanc, only child, Anne Louise Donahoe.
The late Mrs. LeBlanc will have visitation from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday, April 15, 2001, in T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, Sydney. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, East Bay with Fr. Abbass officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
