Lavinia M. Postlethwaite
90, Sydney
Lavinia M. Postlethwaite, 90, a resident of Breton Bay Nursing Home, formerly of Lorne Street, Sydney, passed away at the nursing home on Sunday, April 8, 2001.
Born in Sydney, she was a daughter of late Percy and Pheobe (Cann) Hagell.
Surviving are her daughters, Joan nee Myers (Mrs. Pat Wall) and Cathy Postlethwaite, Sydney; son, Robert (Mary) Myers, Sydney; brother, Robert (Lil) Hagell, Sydney; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Lavinia was predeceased by her first husband, Cyrus Myers and second husband, William Postlethwaite, son, Darryl Postlethwaite and brothers, Harry, Percy ‘Gig’, and Freddie.
Visitation will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel, Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the chapel Wednesday 2 p.m., with Rev. Doug Pilworth officiating. Interment in Hardwood Hill Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
Hugh Allison MacCormack
87, Sydney
Hugh Allison MacCormack, 87, formerly of Fourchu, passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2001, at MacGillivray Guest Home.
Born in Belfry, he was the son of the late John and Mary MacCormack.
He was an adherent of the Fourchu United Church and the last surviving member of his immediate family.
His only survivors are his nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Elsie MacCabe, son, Kenneth, three sisters and five brothers.
Visitation will be in Sydney Memorial Chapel, Wednesday from 7-9 p.m.
Funeral service will be held in the chapel Thursday at 1 p.m. with interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Mary Margaret MacEachern
95, Sydney

Margaret MacEachern was born on April 28, 1905. She peacefully entered the presence of her Lord and Saviour at Breton Bay Nursing Home, Sydney, on Wednesday, April 11, 2001.
She was a longtime resident of Birchdale Drive, Sydney River, and was currently residing at Breton Bay. She grew up on King Street, New Waterford.
She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur (Nov. 12, 1999). They celebrated their 60th anniversary in June of 1999.
She is survived by the following family, sister-in-law Kate MacEachern, River Ryan; sister-in-law, Marie MacMillan, New Waterford; nephew, Robert and Jean MacMillan, New Waterford; nephew, Charlie and Irene MacMillan, Scotchtown; and niece, Pearl and Ed Quelette, Philadelphia.
She will be missed by her church family at Faith Baptist Church.
A special thank you to the staff of the upper level unit at Breton Bay.
Visitation will be Saturday, April 14 at the Sydney Memorial Chapel from 1-3 p.m., followed by a memorial service and committal at 3 p.m., with burial in Forest Haven.
Edward 'Everard' Scantleybury
88, Sydney
Edward ‘Everard’ Livingston Scantlebury, 88, of Laurier Street, Sydney, passed away at home on Wednesday, April 11, 2001.
Born in Barbados, he was a son of the late George and Louise (Edwards) Scantlebury.
Edward was retired from the City of Sydney Works Department and a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witness. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Surviving are his niece, Paulette (Samuel) Price and nephew, Ron Scantlebury, both of Sydney.
Edward was predeceased by his sister, Enid and brothers, Rufus, Burton, Leon, and George ‘Barry’.
Visitation will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel, Friday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses, Saturday at 11 a.m. Interment in Hardwood Hill Cemetery.
Sarah V. MacArthur
90, Sydney
Sarah V. MacArthur, 90, of Breton Bay Nursing Home, formerly of Upper Grand Mira, passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2001, at the nursing home.
Born in Grand Mira, she was the daughter of the late Douglas and Sarah (MacKinnon) MacArthur of Upper Grand Mira.
She was a member of St. Anthony Daniel Church and a former member of St. Margaret’s Church, Grand Mira. Sarah was a nurse’s aid at St. Rita’s Hospital.
Surviving are a sister, Mary Theberge, Sydney; eight nieces and 18 nephews.
She was predeceased by sisters, Mrs. Anna Purcell and Miss Mary Agnes MacArthur, Mrs. Margaret MacNeil and Mrs. Mary MacDougall and Catherine in infancy, brothers, Dr. Edward, John, John Joseph, Joe, Duncan and Hugh.
The late Miss MacArthur will have visitation Sunday, April 15 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral services will be held Monday in St. Margaret’s Church, Grand Mira at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Bernie Campbell officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery.
Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Angus MacVicar
62, Sydney
Angus MacVicar, 62, of James Street, Sydney, passed away at the Victoria General Hospital, Thursday, April 12, 2001, after a lengthy illness.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late John Colin and Ada (Duxbury) MacVicar.
Angus was retired from the water department of the CBRM and was a member of Holy Redeemer Parish.
He is survived by his wife, the former Mary (Kay) Sampson; one daughter, Diane (Steve) MacQueen, Calgary; one son, Colin (Maryann), Sydney; four grandchildren, Jamie, Katie, Meaghen and Andrew; four sisters, Jean (Larry) Stewart, Peggy Dauphinee, Betty and Marilyn, all of Sydney; one brother, Lawrence, Toronto.
He was predeceased by a son, Jamie, two brothers, Allan and Carl.
Visitation will be held in Sydney Memorial Chapel Sunday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. with funeral mass Monday 11 a.m. with Rev. Errol MacDonald officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery.
