Mary M. MacKeigan
93, Sydney
Mary Margaret MacKeigan, 93, a resident of the Cove Guest Home, formerly of Court Street, Sydney, passed away at the residence on Friday, April 27, 2001.
Born in Big Ridge, she was a daughter of the late John David and Effie (MacQueen) Walker.
She was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church, Sydney. Mary was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Surviving are her sons, Milton, Sydney River, and Gordie (Dorothy), Hills Road; grandchildren, Barbara, Todd, Jody, Blair, Barry and Bradley and four great-grandchildren.
Mary was predeceased by her husband, Alexander, two sons in infancy and a son, Alexander, sister, Jessie Stewart and brothers, John, Donald and Angus.
There will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held at Bethel Presbyterian Church, Monday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Robert Lyle officiating. Interment in Oakfield Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to The Cove Foundation.
Sr. Martina Walsh
94, Sydney
Sr. Martina Walsh, CND (Sr. St. Elizabeth of Charity), died peacefully at the CND Health Care Centre, Sydney, on Friday, April 27, 2001.
Born in Antigonish, she was the daughter of the late William and Elizabeth (MacEachern) Walsh.
Sister made her religious profession in the Congregation of Notre Dame, Aug. 22, 1929. Her teaching career included various places in the U.S.A., Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto, P.E.I. and Sydney; from 1948 until 1958 Sister served as librarian at Holy Redeemer Convent, Sydney. Sister was responsible for setting up the Holy Redeemer Parish library which was utilized to the fullest extent at that time. Sister’s later years were spent at Holy Redeemer Convent before moving to the health care centre in 1997.
Sr. Martina is survived by one sister, Beatrice, Antigonish; and one brother, James (Mary), also of Antigonish.
Besides her parents, Sister was predeceased by four sisters, Mary, Bertha, Katherine, and Evelyn. Also by five brothers, John, Martin, Albert, Bernard and Eugene.
Visitation will be held Sunday, April 29 from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, second level. A Bible Vigil will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday evening. Mass of Resurrection will be held at Holy Redeemer Church, Monday, April 30 at 2 p.m., Rev. Errol MacDonald officiating.
Burial will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel.
Charles Neil Livingstone
85, Sydney
Charles Neil Livingstone, 85, of Collier Avenue, Sydney, passed away Saturday, April 28, 2001, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Orangedale, he was a son of the late Laughlin and Margaret (MacLean) Livingstone. He was a conductor with Canadian National Railway, retiring in 1978 after 34 years service. He served with the Royal Canadian Navy during the Second World War. A great deal of his time was spent at the family cottage in Orangedale, pursuing his love of the outdoors.
Charles is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jessie (MacDonald) Livingstone; sons, Robert (Anne), Sydney, James (Pam), Calgary, Allister (Carla), Bedford and David (Anne Marie), Halifax; a daughter, Charlene, Halifax; 11 grandchildren; two sisters, Katherine Rowlings, Rye Beach, N.H., Sarah MacPherson, Sydney; a brother, Alexander, Bedford.
He was predeceased by a son, Charles Neil; three brothers, Hugh, Roderick and David.
There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, May 1, at 2 p.m. at Bethel Presbyterian Church, Rev. Robert Lyle officiating. Interment by family in St. James Cemetery, Bras d’Or.
Family flowers only. Memorials may be made to Veterans Memorial Fund, Harbourview Hospital, Sydney Mines or Steeple Fund of Bethel Presbyterian Church, 9 Brookland St., Sydney.

Dorothy May (Dot) Weeks
72, Sydney
Dorothy May (Dot) Weeks, 72, of 98 Park St., Sydney, formerly of 21 Weeks Lane, Howie Centre, passed away Saturday, April 28, 2001, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, after a lengthy illness.
Born at Sydney, she was a daughter of the late James and Alice Whalen, of Whitney Pier.
She was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church and was employed at Breton Bay Nursing Home for 17 years as a housekeeper.
She was a loving mother to six daughters, Jenette (Edward) Gaddies, Ontario, Alice, Barbara (John) Walter, Sydney, Sandra (Hubert) Covin, Debbie Weeks and her companion Gary Thistle and Celina Weeks, Edmonton; two sons, William (Darlene), and Bruce (Ketrina), both of Ontario; a sister, Mary (George) Anthis, Sydney; five brothers, Joseph (Theresa), Sydney, Reginald (Vinita), Halifax, Raymond (Kathleen), Ontario, Bernard (Anita), Ontario and Ronald (Georgina), Port Hawkesbury; 22 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren.
Predeceased by her husband, William Henry (Bill) Weeks; brother, James (Jim) of Sydney; sister, Theresa (Stanley), of Ontario.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 2, in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Rev. Norman MacPhee officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
Donations may be made to Our Lady of Fatima Church or a charity of one’s choice.

64, Sydney
Cavell McGillivray, 64 of Sydney and formerly of Hamilton, Ontario and Glace Bay, N.S., passed away August 17, 2003, at home surrounded by her family. Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Cecil and Edna (Mullins) Merlin. She is survived by her husband, Donald; two daughters, Karen (Dan), Stoney Creek, Ont. and Patricia (Darryl) Cardinal, Edmonton, Alta.; two sons, Paul (Caroline), Switzerland and Donald Jr. (Tanya), Hamilton, Ont., and seven grandchildren, Angela, Darryl Jr., Liam, Lou, Loic, Kenny and Donnie. She was predeceased by a daughter, Faith Marie. There will be no visitation for the late Mrs. McGillivray. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph Church on Wednesday, 11 a.m. with Rev. Eleanor Doncaster, 93, a resident of the MacGillivray Guest Home (formerly, Alexandra Street, Sydney) passed away, Monday, Aug. 18, 2003, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Sydney, Eleanor was the daughter of the late Norman and Ethel (Hall) Monk. She was a member of Christ Church, Sydney. Surviving is her daughter, Beth (Joe) MacPherson, Big Pond Centre; son, Leslie (‘Les’), Sydney; brother, Norman Elmer, Princeport, Colchester County; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Eleanor was predeceased by her husband, Newton, in 1947, sisters, Mildred, Jean and Anna, brothers, Clarence, George, Lawrence and Leslie. There will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held at Christ Church, Sydney, at 2 p.m. Wednesday, with Rev. Valerie Hunt officiating. Interment in Hardwood Hill Cemetery.
