Timothy Hawco

Timothy Joseph Hawco, 65, Carlton Drive, Sydney, passed away at home, Sunday, Aug. 17, 2003. Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Timothy and Gladys (Lively) Hawco. Tim was a member of Holy Redeemer Church, Whitney Pier. He was a former member of the United Commercial Travelers and the Knights of Columbus. Surviving are his wife, Margaret Rose (Miles); daughters, Laurie Hawco (Ian Ratchford) and Margie (Pat) Donovan, Sydney; sons, Tim (Kellie), London, Ont. and James (Michelyn), Halifax; sisters, Carol MacKinnon, Patsy (Elmer) Ranni and Judy Murphy, Sydney; brothers, Jack (Mary), Donnie (Sharon) and Barry, Sydney; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. There will be no visitation. A memorial mass will be held at Holy Redeemer Church, Wednesday, 11 a.m. with Rev. Errol MacDonald officiating. Memorials may be made to the Lodge That Gives, Halifax.
Doris Amelia Morley
98, Sydney
Doris Amelia Morley, 98, a resident of The Cove Guest Home and formerly of 447 Kings Rd., Sydney, passed away peacefully at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, on Friday, Oct. 10, 2003, after a short illness. She was the daughter of the late James J. and Margaret (Estano) Morley. A graduate of Mount Allison University, she was a former employee of Maritime Tel and Tel, from where she retired as officer supervisor and accounts manager after many years of faithful service. She was well and favourably known for her pleasant manner and sunny disposition which endeared her to her many associates, friends and relatives. A longtime member of First United Choir for many years, for a while as soloist. She was also a member of the ladies organizations at First United and formerly taught in the Sunday School. The last surviving member of her family, she was predeceased by brothers, William and Charles, adopted brother, David and niece, Alice Bringle. She is survived by nieces, Judy MacQueen, Ruth Jameson, nephew, Charles Morley and sister-in-law, Anne Morley, cousins, Valerie McDonald, Gloria Wenning, John DeRoche, Faith Walker and Arthur McDonald. There will be no visitation, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be conducted by Rev. Douglas Pillsworth at the Sydney Memorial Chapel, Wednesday, Oct. 15 at 2 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Choir Fund of First United Church, 105 Whitney Ave., Sydney, or to a charity of choice.
W. Ralph Primmer
68, Sydney
Walter Ralph Primmer, 68, of Cornwallis Street, Sydney, passed away at home, Monday, Jan. 15, 2001.
Born in Sydney, Ralph was a son of the late Edgar and Frances (Bridger) Primmer.
Surviving are his sisters, Dorothy Martin and Ollie (Gordon) Canning, Sydney, and brothers, Robert, Sydney and George, Woodbridge, Ont.
Ralph was predeceased by his sisters, Lucy Strickland and Helen MacLean.
Visitation will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel, Wednesday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the chapel Thursday, 2 p.m. with Rev. Ralph Johnston officiating. Interment in Hardwood Hill Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the Cape Breton Palliative Care or a charity of choice.
Martin Rose
81, Sydney
Martin James Rose, 81, of Breton Bay Nursing Home, formerly of St. Peter’s Road and Victoria Road, Sydney, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, he was a son of the late Thomas and Alice (Hammond) Rose.
He was a member of St. Theresa’s Parish, Sydney, Martin was an avid ham radio operator. He was employed for a number of years with both Sydney Steel Corp. and Canadian Tire Ltd.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Thomas and Douglas.
There will be no visitation for the late Mr. Rose. Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in St. Theresa’s Church with Rev. Angus MacDougall officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
Donations may be made to a charity of your choice.

Robert 'Bob' Canova
58, Sydney
Robert ‘Bob’ Canova, 58, of Grand Lake Road, Sydney, and formerly of Dominion, passed away suddenly, Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Dominion, he was the son of the late Fred and Margaret (Syms) Canova.
Bob was a member of the Italian Men’s Community Club in Dominion. He had been employed with B & D Ready-Mix and Scotia Wholesale. He was also associated with Cape Breton Social Housing and Vaughan Engineering. Most recently he worked with Bridgeport Holdings.
He is survived by his wife, the former Josephine Wrobleski; two sons, Glen (Launa), Sydney, and Duane (Colleen), Ontario; grandson, Michael Canova, his best friend and pal; also by brother, Vincent, British Columbia, and nephews, Troy and Anthony Canova, both in British Columbia.
He was predeceased by his brother, Fred Jr.
The late Mr. Canova will have visitation today from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. at the T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, second level. Funeral Mass will be held 1 p.m. Friday in St. Augustine Church, Grand Lake Road, Rev. J. Attwood officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.

Agnes MacLean
86, Sydney
Agnes MacLean, 86, of 307 Cartier St., Sydney, passed away Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, after a lengthy illness.
Born at Carbonear, Nfld., she was the daughter of the late Charles and Lucy (Dalton) Bowman.
She was a member of St. Theresa’s Parish, Sydney. During the 1950s and 60s Agnes worked as a clerk at MacDonald’s Shoe Store, Charlotte Street, Sydney.
Surviving are her husband, Malcolm; three sons, Greg (Marie), Parksville, B.C., Lionel (Vivian), Brampton, Ont., Bill (Lynne), Bolton, Ont.; daughter-in-law, Betty, Sydney; stepdaughter, Cathy (Ross) MacIsaac, Sydney; two sisters, Lucy Gillis, Sydney and Mary MacInnis, Dartmouth; eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Hector, son, Don, grandson, Mike, brother, Edward and sisters, Anne Moffatt, Johanna Keliher and Frances MacDonald.
Visitation for the late Mrs. MacLean will be at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, today (Thursday), 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be held at 9 a.m. Friday in St. Theresa’s Church, Rev. Angus MacDougall officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
