Dan Hugh Gillis
88, Sydney
Dan Hugh Gillis, 88, of 312 Esplanade, Sydney, formerly of Whitney Pier, died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Daniel and Margaret (nee Gillis) Gillis. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Sydney, and a former member of Holy Redeemer Church, Whitney Pier. He was a long serving member of the Sydney Fire Department.
Surviving are daughters, Connie (Raymond Rhymes), Sydney, Beverly (Orville Neville), Corner Brook, Nfld., Gwen (Bob Garand), Prescott, Ont.; sons, Joseph (Madeline), Summerside, P.E.I., Donnie (Myra), Fort Smith, N.W.T., Gerald (Eva), Gibson, British Columbia, Brian (Anne), Charlottetown, P.E.I.; 22 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, Mary (Bride) Gillis; sisters, Theresa Fidgen, Mamie Gillis, Jeannie MacPherson, Annie Wall; brothers, Alexander, R. Edward.
The late Mr. Gillis will have visitation Tuesday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. at the T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral Mass will be held 9 a.m. Wednesday in Sacred Hearth Church with Fr. Anthony O’Connor officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
Donations may be made to the Ostomy Society.
Albert (Bert) Musgrave
35, Sydney
Bert Musgrave, 35, of Sydney, passed away on Friday, Sept. 22, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, as the result of a motor vehicle accident.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of Albert and Margaret (MacDonald) Musgrave of Sydney. He was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church, Sydney.
Besides his parents he is survived by a sister, Kathy (Bobby Manning), Charlottetown, P.E.I.; a nephew, Kyle, and a niece, Alanna.
The late Mr. Musgrave will have no visitation. Cremation has taken place. Funeral services will be held today at 3 p.m. at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel with Rev. R. Lyle officiating.
Donations may be made to the Children’s Wish Foundation or a charity of one’s choice.
Stella D. "Ann" Wall
86, Sydney
Stella D. “Ann” Wall, 86, of Breton Bay Nursing Home, formerly of Grand Lake Road, passed away peacefully on Friday, Sept. 22, 2000, at the residence.
Born at Sydney, she was the daughter of the late William and Elizabeth (Jennings) Waye.
People who knew “Ann” will remember her warm and kind manner and look upon her as a fine example to live by.
Surviving are a daughter, Patricia (Danny) Boyd, London, Ont.; four sisters, Mrs. Mary Boyd, Mrs. Gail Anderson, Mrs. Barbara George, all of Sydney, and Mrs. Liz MacPhail, Kingston, Ont.; four brothers, Joe (Evelyn) and Sean (Jessie), both of Sydney, Nelson (Margaret) and Donald, both of Toronto; two grandchildren, Pebbles and Crystal and three great-grandchildren, Buddy, Candace, and Wesley.
Predeceased by her husband Donald; two brothers, Bernard and Wallace; and a sister Violet.
There will be no visitation for the late Mrs. Wall. Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Immaculate Heart Church, Mira Rd., with Rev. Barrett Clare-Johnson officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
Donations may be made to a charity of choice.

Charles (Charlie) Lee

Charles (Charlie) Lee, 89, passed away Sunday, Sept. 24, 2000, at Breton Bay Nursing Home, Sydney.
Born in Antigonish, Charlie lived the last 10 years in Antigonish. He lived in Bedford/Halifax for many years. He was a member of Knights of Columbus, St. Ignatius Parish, Bedford, N.S. Charlie was master plumber in Bedford and owner of Charles Lee Plumbing and Heating. He played for the Antigonish Bulldogs in the 1930s.
Predeceased by his wife, Mary (Tovey), Guysborough; his mother, Mary J. (Power), Antigonish; his father, John A. Lee, Port Morien; brothers and sisters, James, Mary (Mamie) Dolan, Katie (Fraser), Fannie (Sears), Charles Benjamin and Frances (Pye).
He is survived by a daughter, Mary and son-in-law David duChene, Albert Bridge; granddaughter, Michele, Round Island; grandson, Don Lee, Albert Bridge; great-grandchildren, Michaela and Matthew Mulholland, Round Island; and his friend and caregiver, Donnie MacNeil.
Resting at MacIsaac’s Funeral Home, 61 Pleasant St., Antigonish. Visitation today (Tuesday) 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Funeral services Wednesday 10:30 a.m. from St. Ninian’s Church, Antigonish. Burial and service at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Sackville, N.S., Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.
Victor Roderick Debreau
63, Sydney
Victor Roderick DeBreau, 63, of Gunn Street, Sydney, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2000, at his residence.
Born in Sydney, he was a son of the late Louis and Magdaline (Penny) DeBreau.
He was a member of Holy Redeemer Parish.
Victor is survived by one son, Glen Campbell, Sydney; one grandson, Matthew Brandon; three sisters, Joyce Sullivan, Sydney, Heather Murrant, New Waterford and Nancy Smith, Sydney; three brothers, Louis, Wayne, and Lawrence, all of Hamilton, Ont.
He was predeceased by a sister, Eva Mae in infancy.
Visitation will be held in Sydney Memorial Chapel, Thursday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass in Holy Redeemer Church 11 a.m. Friday with Rev. Errol MacDonald officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.

Hedwig (Jodwiga) (Ostrynski) Flynn, 82, of Breton Bay Nursing Home, formerly of 226 Victoria Rd., Sydney, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Dominion, Cape Breton, she was the daughter of the late Jan and Josepha Ostrynski.
Hedwig was a member of Holy Redeemer Parish, Sydney. She was also a member of Whitney Pier Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Branch 128, Sydney.
Surviving are her sons, Raymond (Julie) and Edward (Judy), both of Sydney; one daughter, Helena ‘Lee’ (John Raymond) MacIntyre, Halifax; sister, Madeline Langer, Sydney; seven grandchildren, Helene, John, Martin, Daniel, Chad, Natalie and Amanda and three great-grandchildren, Katie, Matthew and Ryan.
Hedwig was predeceased by her husband, Ernest, a daughter, Delores, two sons in infancy, brothers, Michael, Anthony and Peter and a sister, Annie Staskiew.
Visitation will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel, Friday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at Holy Redeemer Church, Saturday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Errol MacDonald officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery.
