Margaret Katherine MacQueen

Margaret Katherine MacQueen, Moxham Drive, Sydney, passed away Sunday, Oct. 29, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Round Island, she was a daughter of the late John and Annie MacQueen.
She was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church where she was a member of the choir for some years. She was a founding member of the Homeville Women’s Institute and an active member of the Nova Scotia Teachers Union and the Retired Teachers Association.
At an early age she was employed in Boston and later returned to graduate from Nova Scotia Teachers College. Following graduation she taught at Homeville, Round Island, Louisbourg, and several schools in Sydney and retired as a reading specialist. The children she taught, as well as those in her family were her life. Their beloved “Maggie” will always be remembered and loved.
Margaret is survived by three sisters, Annie (Mrs. Michael Penny) and Ina (Mrs. Norman MacDonald), both of Sydney, and Effie (Mrs. Donald Ferguson), Round Island, a brother, James (Jean), Round Island. Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Myra MacQueen, Sydney, and many nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Donald and a nephew in infancy.
Visitation will be held from T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, 755 George St., Sydney, Wednesday, Nov. 1, from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, from Bethel Presbyterian Church. Burial to follow at Black Brook Cemetery, Port Morien.

Nellie Oake
64, Sydney
Nellie Oake, 64, of John Street, Sydney, passed away at her home, on Monday, Oct. 30, 2000.
Born in Whitney Pier, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Annie Wolodka.
Nellie was a loyal member of St. John’s Anglican Church, Mira Road. She was employed at the Steel Centre Credit Union for 33 years, retiring in 1995, and was an active skater, skier, hiker and gardener.
Nellie is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Ernie; son, Peter, Ontario; two daughters, Jennifer and Virginia, Ottawa; four brothers, Mike, William, Fred, and John, and thee sisters, Pauline Mroz, Mary Pike, and Rose Stoodley.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel. A memorial service will be held at St. George’s Church, Wednesday, 10 a.m. with Rev. Glen Kent officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Donations may be made to the Cape Breton Regional Cancer Centre or the Palliative Care Society.
Arlene Carew
46, Sydney
Arlene Patricia Carew, 46, of 273 East Broadway, Sydney, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, at the QE II Health Science Centre, Halifax, after a brief illness.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the Mr. and Mrs. Melvin and Gladys (O’Flaherty) Morrison of Sydney.
She was a member of Christ Church, Sydney. She had been presently employed as office manager with Wilson Investments, having worked with the Tim Hortons franchise since it began in Sydney 23 years ago.
Arlene is survived by her husband, Kevin; two sons, Kris, Dartmouth, and Brad, at home; two brothers, Robert, Sydney, and Rodney (Kara), of Cambridge, N.S.; four sisters, Lillian (Norman) MacLean, Sydney, Sharon (Donald) Gosse, Charlottetown, P.E.I., Sandra (Fred) Plumridge, Calgary, and Debi MacKinnon, Pitt Meadows, B.C. She is also survived by several aunts and uncles and numerous cousins and by several best friends from her workplace and her neighborhood, all of whom will miss her dearly.
Visitation for the late Mrs. Carew will take place at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel Thursday from 7-9 p.m. and Friday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in Christ Church, Sydney, with Rev. Glen Kent officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Donations may be made to a charity of choice.
Christina A. Pease
89, Sydney
Christina A. Pease, 89, Breton Bay Nursing Home, passed away at the nursing home on Friday, Nov. 3, 2000. Born in Everett, Mass., she was a daughter of the late Daniel J . and Agnes (Kerr) MacIntosh. Christina was employed at the Carnie Hospital, Randolph, Mass., until her retirement. In 1982, Christina and her husband moved to Port Hawkesbury. Surviving are her husband, Walter Joseph and sisters, Aggie Matthews and Jean MacLeod, Sydney, She was predeceased by her first husband, Angus Fogg; daughter, Ethel; sisters, Effey Lamont, Sadie MacIntosh and Catherine and Margaret, in infancy and brothers, Angus and John. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel. A memorial service will be held in the chapel Sunday 2 p.m. with Rev. Jackie MacDonald officiating. Memorial donations may be made to Breton Bay Nursing Home or the Canadian Diabetes Association.
Mary Margaret MacAdam

Mary Margaret (MacDonnell) MacAdam, of Archibald Avenue, Sydney, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 4, 2000, in the presence of her loving husband of 56 years, Steve, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, after a brief illness.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Hugh and Florence (Lamey) MacDonnell.
Mary was a devoted member of St. Joseph’s Parish and the C.W.L.
Besides her loving husband, Steve, she is survived by three sisters, Alice MacDonnell, Adeline (Bob) Lynch, and Muriel MacDonnell; and her brother, Oscar (Doreen), all of Sydney. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Mary was predeceased by a sister Hughena; and brothers, John and Byron.
Visitation for the late Mrs. MacAdam was held Sunday from 7-9 p.m. and will be held today (Monday) from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, main level. Funeral mass will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Joseph’s Church, Sydney, with Fr. Dan MacDonald officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Joseph’s Church Building Fund or a charity of choice.
Duncan Ignatius 'D.I.' Campbell
Sydney
Duncan Ignatius Campbell, of 211 Cottage Road, Sydney, died Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, at his home.
Born in Port Hood, he was a son of the late Dr. P.S. and Ida (Tompkins) Campbell of Port Hood and East Margaree.
He was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish, Sydney, and a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 12, Sydney. He was an avid golfer and a life member of the Lingan Golf Club. He served overseas during the Second World War from 1939-1945 with the No. 7 General Hospital R.C.A.M.C. He retired from Revenue Canada in 1977, after 32 years service.
He is survived by his wife, the former, Yvonne Chisholm; one daughter, Nancy (Vernon) Betts, North Vancouver; two sons, Colin Peter (Mary) Campbell, Charlottetown, P.E.I., Jerome Chisholm (Diane) Campbell, Spruce Grove, Alta.; two sisters, Elizabeth (Bernard) McCarthy, Toronto and Sr. Teresa, Sisters of Charity, Halifax; two brothers, Emmett (Hope) Campbell, Keswick, Ont. and Bishop Colin Campbell, Antigonish; sisters-in-law, Iola Campbell and Margaret Campbell, both of Toronto and seven grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Mary in infancy, sister, Nora in infancy and by two brothers, Pat and John E.
The late Mr. Campbell will have no visitation as his body has been donated to medical science (Dalhousie). Funeral mass will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, in St. Joseph’s Church with Bishop Colin Campbell officiating.
Donations may be made to a charity of choice.
