M. Emma Morrison
101, Sydney
Mary Emma Morrison, 101, of the Cove Guest Home, passed away at the home on Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000.
Born in Fourchu, she was a daughter of the late Daniel William and Flora (MacQueen) Morrison.
Emma was a member of St. Andrew’s United Church, and a former member of the John Pringle Unit of the UCW and the Debarres Chapter of the IODE. Before retiring in 1973, she was a matron at the Bairncroft Home, Sydney River.
Surviving are her sister-in-law, Sue Morrison, Arizona, Steven Bayne and several cousins.
She was predeceased by sisters, Cassie and Agnes and brothers, Robert and Daniel.
Visitation will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel, Friday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the chapel Saturday, 2 p.m., Rev. Stephen Mills and Rev. Tom Whent officiating. Interment in Hardwood Hill Cemetery.
Margaret Foster Bulley
89, Sydney
Margaret Foster Bulley, 89, of 113 Inglis St., Sydney, formerly of Sydney Mines, passed away Friday, Nov. 10, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Scotland, she was the daughter of the late William and Mary (Foster) Hastie.
She was a member of the Cape Breton Christian Fellowship Church, Sydney. Margaret was an active member in various church related activities and she also had a great love for children and animals.
Surviving are two daughters, Mary (Mrs. Syd Slaven), Sydney, and Harriet West, Halifax, son Richard (Marilyn) Bulley, two sisters, Mina Lorette, Ontario, and Joyce MacQueen, Sydney Mines, brother Johnson Hastie, Sydney Mines, and five grandchildren, Melanie, Michael, Walter, Jason, and Richard.
She was predeceased by her husband Harry (1995), a daughter Mary in infancy, two sisters, Helen and Jen, four brothers, Billy, Jimmy, Archie, and Alex.
The late Mrs. Bulley had a private family visitation until service time 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12, in the T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, Rev. Kevin Mattatal officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Donations may be made to a charity of choice.
Florence Hughena Nodge
87, Sydney
Florence Hughena Nodge, 87, of Glebe Avenue, Sydney, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, she was a daughter of the late Hugh and Minnie (White) MacDonald. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church Sydney.
She will be sadly missed by her daughters, Mrs. Mary Youden (Walter), Sydney, Mrs. Marena Coish (Cyril), Sydney River, Mrs. Dawna Reid (Larry), Oakbank, Manitoba and Mrs. Carol Babic (Atilio), Sydney, son, Hugh Nodge, at home, sister, Kate Eddy (Cecil), Sydney, brother Frank MacDougall (Claire), Pictou, 15 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Julius, step-father Norman MacDougall, brothers, Angus MacDonald in infancy, Alan, Daniel and Donald MacDougall.
Visitation will be held in Sydney Memorial Chapel on Monday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Funeral service in the chapel 11 a.m. Tuesday with Pastor Mike Thorburn officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Ruby Kennedy
77, Sydney
Ruby Kennedy, 77, of Sydney, passed away Sunday, Nov. 19, 2000, at Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, she was a daughter of the late James and Madeline (Spears) Morley.
She was a member of Trinity United Church and the Mothers Club.
Ruby is survived by a daughter Marilyn (David) MacPherson, Howie Centre; two sons, Glen (Michelle), Lower Sackville, and Gary (Paula), Westmount; six grandchildren, Mark, Tracey, Ryan, Danielle, Kyle and Michael; sister Nellie (Kennedy) Falt, Caribou Marsh and brother Stuart, Westmount.
Ruby was predeceased by her husband Frank in 1976 and a brother Ralph.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel. A memorial service will be held in Trinity United Church 2 p.m. Wednesday with Rev. Donald MacDonald officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to Trinity United Church, Canadian Bible Society or charity of choice.
Ismay Iona Innis
76, Sydney
Ismay Iona Innis, died in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, Monday, Nov. 20, 2000.
She was the daughter of the late Miriam (Weeks) and Alonzo Lucas.
She was predeceased by her husband, Seibert Innis, two brothers, Alonzo Crawford and William Lucas and a sister, Ruth Lucas.
She is survived by her son, David Innis, Sydney; daughters, Diane (Lawrence) Danclar, Burlington, Ont., Zelda Lucas, Halifax; two grandchildren, Garnet Lucas, Burlington, Ont. and David Clyke, Sydney. Ismay is also survived by brothers, Ethelson (Winifred) Lucas, Gideon Lucas, both from Sydney; sisters, Naomi (Richard) Austin, P.E.I. Elease Smuk, Toronto, Ont., Olga (Lemuel) Skeete and sister-in-law, Jeanette (William) Lucas, both of Sydney; 15 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and many nephews and nieces.
She was a member of the Sydney Grandview Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses for many years.
Visitation will be held Thursday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Sydney Memorial Chapel. Funeral will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Sydney Memorial Chapel Funeral Home. Mr. Neil Jefferies will be officiating. Cremation will take place.
Edna Edith Tutty
97, Sydney
Edna Edith Tutty, 97, Rockdale Avenue, Sydney, passed away at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2000.
Born in Sydney, she was a daughter of the late George and Bertha (Bayer) Cox.
Edna was a member of the First United Church. In 1921, she graduated from Normal College in Truro, Nova Scotia, and taught at Gabarus School. Edna then graduated from business college and was employed at Atlantic Spring and Machine Company, until her retirement in 1979, after 50 years of service. She was an avid gardener and will be fondly remembered, especially for her love of animals.
Surviving are her four grandchildren, Sandra (Glenn) MacDougall, Lower Sackville, Jayne (Ted) Connolly, Toronto, Parker (Trish) Tutty, Ottawa and George Tutty, Sydney; a sister, Mildred Cox, Sydney and seven great-grandchildren.
Edna was predeceased by her husband, Hector in 1974, a son, Glenn, daughter-in-law, Ruth (MacNeil), brothers, Ralph and Allie and sisters, Leila White, Georgie MacSween and Catherine Murphy.
There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel, Thursday, 2 p.m. with Rev. Doug Pilsworth officiating. Interment in Hardwood Hill Cemetery.
