Nellie Doris Quinton

Nellie Doris Quinton, a resident of the MacGillivray Guest Home, formerly of MacGuire Drive, Sydney, passed away at the guest home on Friday, Dec. 8, 2000.
Born in Gin Cove, Trinity Bay, Nfld., she was a daughter of the late Ebenezer and Emily (Duffett) Luther.
Nellie was a member of the Sydney River United Church. She was a former employee of the Spring Garden Villa and the Children’s Training Center.
Nellie was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Surviving are her daughters, Glady (Joe) Burke and Linda MacKeigan; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, William, son, Robert, sisters, Martha and Ettie and a brother, Daniel.
Visitation will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel Saturday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the chapel Sunday, 3 p.m. with Rev. Alan McIntosh officiating. Interment in Alfred Smith Memorial Cemetery.
William Ross MacDonald
84, Sydney
William Ross MacDonald, 84, of 944 Keltic Dr., Sydney, died Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, at the Northside General Hospital, DVA Unit, North Sydney.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late William and Jane (Grantmyre) MacDonald.
He was a member of St. Andrew’s United Church, Sydney. He served as a veteran of the Second World War. He was a member of the Westside Legion, Westmount. Also, Mr. MacDonald was employed by the Sydney Steel Corp. up until his retirement. He was the owner and operator of Little Brook Trailer Park, Keltic Drive, Sydney.
He is survived by one daughter, Dale Davis, Richmond, B.C.; two sisters, Eleanor, Sydney and Alma, British Columbia; one brother, Mason, Toronto, and three grandchildren. Also survived by longtime caregiver, Beverly Launay.
He was predeceased by his wife, Marion, son, David and longtime companion, Sue Boutilier.
The late Mr. MacDonald will have no visitation. Cremation has taken place. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Diane Jean McPhee
Sydney
Diane ‘Ladie Di’ McPhee, 51, of Sydney and also resided in Prince Rupert, B.C., passed away peacefully Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, at the Victoria General Hospital, Halifax.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Walter ‘Efie’ and Theresa (Meaney) MacPhee.
She was a member of St. Alphonsus Parish, South Bar. Diane had a passion for life, she was an artistic lady who loved painting and travelled to shows to display her work.
She enjoyed and taught dancing for several years. She was also a strong advocate in the AA community.
She is survived by her life partner, Steve ‘Parker’ MacQueen; her daughter, Colleen Coadic, Alaska; son, Kevin Coadic, Halifax; three sisters, Kathleen (David Boudreau), Grand Lake Road, Jeannette MacPhee, St. Peter’s Road, and Natalie Sampson, South Bar; two brothers, Walter ‘Chickie’ MacPhee and Richard (Janet) MacPhee, both of Grand Lake Road.
There will be no visitation by request. Dianne’s wishes were that her family and friends gather in celebration of her life. Memorial mass will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Holy Redeemer Church, Whitney Pier, Fr. E. MacDonald officiating. There will be a reception, an opportunity to share stories, at the home of Mrs. Natalie Sampson, 2520 MacLean Lane, South Bar.
Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel.
Albert David Bagnell
Sydney
Albert David Ernest Bagnell, Green Road, Sydney, passed away at the QEII Hospital, Halifax, on Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000.
Born in Gabarus, he was the son of the late Leonard and Annie (Reid) Bagnell.
In 1982 Albert retired from the heavy mills office of the Sydney Steel Corp.
Surviving, are his wife Matilda ‘Duddie’ (Currie); son Leonard, Sydney; and a sister, Isobel (Harold) Martin, Don Mills, Ont.
Albert was predeceased by a daughter in infancy, and a sister, Laura.
Visitation will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel, Friday 7-9 p.m. and Saturday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the chapel. Interment in Gull Cove Road Cemetery, Gabarus.
Mary E. 'Lale' Lynch
75, Sydney
Mary E. ‘Lale’ Lynch, of Breton Bay Nursing Home, a longtime resident of Lynch Drive, Sydney River, passed away peacefully at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Lillian (Carroll) and Percy Downing. She was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Sydney River.
Lale is survived by children, Tom (Donna), Sydney, Nancy (Carmen D’Intino), West Bay, Jane (Brad Arnold), Enfield, Bryan (Tanya), Waverly, and sisters, Helen (Stan MacDougall), Sydney and Eva (late Albert Penny), Sydney.
Nanny will be sadly missed by her grandchildren, Stacy, Jennifer and Heather Lynch, Anna, Michaela and Carmen D’Intino, Lauren Arnold, Kale, Connor and Keigan Lynch.
Mrs. Lynch was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Leo Lynch in 1969.
Visitation for the late Mrs. Lynch will be held at the T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, today (Friday), Dec. 15 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A mass celebrating her life will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Sydney River, Saturday, Dec. 16 at 11 a.m. with Rev. N. MacPhee officiating. Burial at Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
Donations may be made to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Brenda May Joseph
50, Sydney
Brenda May Joseph, 50, of James Street, Sydney, passed away Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Donald J. and Anne (Pierrynowski) MacDonald.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Polish Church, Whitney Pier, Altar Society, St. Cecilia’s Choir, and the Cape Breton Polish Cultural Association.
Brenda is survived by her husband, Wayne; two sons, Shaun, Truro, N.S. and Stephen, Halifax, N.S.; two sisters, Joanne Kingsbury, Fontana, Calif., Donna (Peter MacNeil), Toronto, Ont.
The late Mrs. Joseph will have visitation today (Monday) from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary’s Polish Church, Whitney Pier, Fr. Ted Rusnak officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
