Roy A. MacNeil

Roy A. MacNeil, Townsend Street, Sydney, passed away at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, on Monday, Jan. 8, 2001.
Born in Barra Glen, Iona, he was the son of the late Rory D. and Mary Joe (MacNeil) MacNeil.
A boilermaker by trade, Roy worked construction in the Maritimes and was a member of Local 73. He attended Sacred Heart Church, Sydney.
Surviving are his wife, Connie (Muise); daughters, Tammy, Memorial University, Newfoundland, and Jennifer, Marconi Campus, Sydney; sister, Betty Kressner, Benacadie, and brothers, Bernie, Ontario, and Roddie, P.E.I.
Roy was predeceased by a sister, Sadie and brothers, Lawrence and Mickey.
Visitation will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel, Wednesday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church Thursday, 9 a.m. with Rev. Anthony O’Connor officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Helen Snow
86, Sydney
Helen Snow, 86, of West Street, Sydney, passed away at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, on Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001.
Born in Sydney, she was a daughter of the late John and Vera (Kendzierski) Personick.
Helen was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church. She taught Sunday school and Explorers, in Whitney Pier and was also a member of the Whitney Pier Pensioners Club and the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 12.
Surviving are sisters, Mary (Sidney) Woodland, Medena Hillier, Hamilton, Ont., and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews in Sydney and Hamilton, Ont.
Helen was predeceased by her husband, James in 1968, sisters, Annie, Dorothy, Betty and Vera and brothers, Harry and Walter.
Visitation will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel Wednesday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the chapel Thursday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Robert Lyle officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens
Georgina Jane Lawless
89, Sydney
Georgina Jane Lawless, 89, a resident of Vale Street, North Sydney, passed away Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at the Northside General Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Flowers Cove, Nfld., she was a daughter of the late Stephen and Jane Chambers.
She was a member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney, and in earlier years belonged to the Children of Mary.
She is survived by six daughters, Jean (Milton) Farrell, North Sydney, Mary (Harry) Katrynuk, Welland, Ont., Linda (Daryl) Rendell, New Harris, Susan (Grattan) Howley, Bras d’Or, Renee (Mark) Romanowsky, Lowell, Mass., Patricia (Tish), at home; three sons, Ed, Sydney Mines, Gerald (Mary), Halifax, Mick (Bonnie), North Sydney; three sisters, Marianne, Christina, Jess, all of Newfoundland; three brothers, William, Henry, Les, all of Newfoundland; 27 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Also by a special niece, Sue (Kenny) LeBlanc, Bras d’Or.
She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas, two daughters in infancy and several brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Friday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral mass will be held 2 p.m. Saturday from St. Joseph Church, North Sydney, with Rev. Tom MacNeil officiating. Burial to take place in Holy Cross Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to “Taigh Solas” 3rd floor of the Northside General Hospital.
Margaret MacNeil
83, Sydney
Margaret MacNeil, 83, of MacRae Avenue, Sydney River, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born at Benacadie, she was the daughter of the late John Rory and Cleo (Munroe) MacNeil. She was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish, Sydney River.
She is survived by her husband, Danny; one daughter, Mrs. Cleo Windsor, Sydney; two grandchildren, Fred and Cheryl and one great-grandson, Bobby.
The late Mrs. MacNeil will have visitation at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, main level, today (Friday) 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Our Lady of Fatima Church with Rev. Norman MacPhee officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
Donations may be made to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Mary Delores Manley, 76, of 170 Buckingham, Dr. formerly of Lingan Road, Whitney Pier, passed away Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born at Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Lena (Carlucci) DiPenta.
She was a member of Holy Redeemer Parish, Sydney. Mary was an avid bridge player and a founding member of the Cape Breton Bridge World.
She is survived by her daughter, Alexis (husband Bill Butler), Sydney; son, Terry (wife Giselle), Sydney River; sister, Mrs. Minnie Campbell, Warren, Mich.; brother, John (Irma) Collette, Sydney; four loving grandchildren, Lindsay, Brian, Lauren and Michael and by many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her husband Alex ‘Dewey’ in 1997, brothers, Mike and Val and a sister, Pauline Synishin.
The late Mrs. Manley will have visitation at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel Saturday from 7-9 p.m. and Sunday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 15, in Holy Redeemer Church, Rev. Errol MacDonald officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
Donations may be made to the Cape Breton Palliative Care Society or charity of choice.
Cornelia (Cora) Thornton

Cornelia (Cora) Thornton, Sydney, passed away Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Burgeo, Nfld., she was the daughter of the late Charles Spencer and Sarah Spencer Strickland.
She is survived by a son, Robert, Sydney; a daughter, Pamela, Rodin, N.S.; and a sister, Ada Sutton, New Germany, Lunenburg County. She is also survived by stepsisters, Freda Clark, North Sydney, Nina Jessome, Florence, Ivy Horton, New Minas, and Jess Williams, Halifax.
She was predeceased by husband, William Thornton, Sydney, brother, Joseph Spencer, Halifax, stepfather, Henry Standing, Burgeo and North Sydney, stepsister, Alma Seury, Sydney, and by first husband, Russel Albertson, Montreal.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. Funeral service will be held Saturday, Jan. 13, at 10 a.m. at Christ Church. Interment at Hardwood Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Palliative Care or a charity of choice.
