Mary Rita Aucoin

Mary Rita Aucoin, 68, of 28 Dolbin St., Sydney, passed away on Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Whycocomagh, she was the daughter of the late Levi and Nancy (Goo Goo) Poulette and a member of the Sacred Heart Parish.
She is survived by her husband, Edward Aucoin and daughters, Rose Anne Bernard and Nancy Bernard; grandchildren, Michelle, J.J., Annette, Chico, Lynn, Jay, William, Levi, Sherisse, Tommy, Darryl and Zusun and 25 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by son, Thomas, daughter, Irene Bernard, brothers, Benjamin, Peter, Stephen, Richard, Edward, Joseph and Peter, sisters, Elouise, Mary (Toney) and Mary Ann.
Visitation Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Gabriel Centre, Eskasoni. Funeral mass, officiated by Fr. Robert MacNeil will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Family Parish, Eskasoni.
The family would like to thank Fr. O’Connor of Sacred Heart Parish and the staff of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for all their wonderful help.
Henry Dupont.
76, Sydney
Henry Dupont, 76, of Dryden Avenue, Sydney, and a former resident of 1252 Main St., Birch Grove, died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
He was the son of the late Henry and Germaine (LeRoux) Dupont. He was a member of Saint Anthony’s Church, Glace Bay. Henry served during the Second World War and was a private with the Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa.
He is survived by one sister, Josephine Ings, Breton Bay Nursing Home, Sydney; one niece, Anna Dupont and one nephew, Alex Dupont, both of North Sydney and by a close friend, Victor Buchanan, Glace Bay.
Henry was predeceased by his parents.
Visitation for the late Henry Dupont will be held in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay, Sunday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in Saint Anthony’s Church with Fr. Peter LeBlanc officiating.
Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Carmel Helen MacDonald
66, Sydney / New Waterford
Carmel Helen MacDonald, 66, a resident of Breton Bay Nursing Home, Sydney, and a former resident of New Waterford, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the former Beatrice (Quinn) Carpenter, River Ryan, and the late John W. Carpenter.
Carmel was a member of Mount Carmel Parish, New Waterford.
Surviving are her two sons, Robert and Gerry, both of New Waterford; grandson Steven, Halifax; sister, Evelyn (Mrs. Jack Walsh), Bridgewater; four brothers, James, Blaine, Bernard (Jean), and Jackie, all of New Waterford.
Carmel was predeceased by her sister, Maime MacKinnon.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. Funeral mass will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, Mount Carmel Church, Fr. Donald MacGillivray officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.
The family would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff of Breton Bay Nursing Home for the exceptional care given to Carmel over the years.
Phyllis Samantha Oxford
78, Sydney
Phyllis Oxford, 78, of Grandview Street, Sydney, passed away at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001.
Born in Ramea, Newfoundland, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Selina (Sibley) Hatcher.
She was a member of the World Wide Church of God. She was an avid bowler and dart player with the Whitney Pier Seniors Club.
She is survived by a daughter, Jocelyn Dorko, Sydney; two sons, James Ashford, Halifax, and Denis Oxford, Ohio; a sister, Annie Bradbury, North Sydney; step-sister, Winnie Lee, Newfoundland; brother, John Hatcher, Stephenville; nine grandchildren; a great-grandchild.
Phyllis was predeceased by her first husband, James Ashford; and second husband, Abraham Oxford.
There will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held in Sydney Memorial Chapel today (Monday) at 2 p.m. with Pastor Willis officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.

Agnes MacLean
86, Sydney
Agnes MacLean, 86, of 307 Cartier St., Sydney, passed away Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, after a lengthy illness.
Born at Carbonear, Nfld., she was the daughter of the late Charles and Lucy (Dalton) Bowman.
She was a member of St. Theresa’s Parish, Sydney. During the 1950s and 60s Agnes worked as a clerk at MacDonald’s Shoe Store, Charlotte Street, Sydney.
Surviving are her husband, Malcolm; three sons, Greg (Marie), Parksville, B.C., Lionel (Vivian), Brampton, Ont., Bill (Lynne), Bolton, Ont.; daughter-in-law, Betty, Sydney; stepdaughter, Cathy (Ross) MacIsaac, Sydney; eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Hector, son, Don, grandson, Mike, brother, Edward and sisters, Anne Moffatt, Johanna Keliher and Frances MacDonald.
Visitation for the late Mrs. MacLean will be at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, Thursday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be held at 9 a.m. Friday in St. Theresa’s Church, Rev. Angus MacDougall officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.

Ada Marguerite 'Pinky' Cameron

Ada Marguerite ‘Pinky’ Cameron, 77, of the Breton Bay Nursing Home, Sydney, passed away Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001, at the Home.
Born at Halifax, she was the daughter of the late Archie and Freedom (Clark) MacKeigan.
Surviving are three daughters, Elaine (Robert) Coldwell, Ontario, Connie (Raymond) Jackson, Victoria, and Zandra (Norman) MacDonald, Sydney; seven grandchildren, Kelly (Ken) MacLeod, Kim (Eldon) MacDonald, Keith (Gloria) MacDonald, Douglas Coldwell, Sharon Coldwell, Jonathan Coldwell, and Andrew Tims; five great-grandchildren.
Predeceased by her husband, Donald Cameron and a brother, Robert Brady.
The late Mrs. Cameron will have no visitation. A prayer service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Interment in the spring at Oakfield Cemetery, Mira.
