Carmella Carroll

It is with great sadness that we must announce the death of our beloved mother, Carmella Carroll of the Cove Guest Home, formerly of 115 Lorne St., Sydney, passed away Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Glace Bay in 1931, she was the daughter of the late T.N. and Mary Catherine ‘Minnie’ (Furey) Carroll.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 49 years, Gerald; seven daughters, Betty (Kenny) Marchand, Patricia (Frank) MacPherson and Darlene Cuddihy, all of Sydney, Geraldine (Mike) Bevis, Bridgewater, Margaret (Lorne) Slade, North Sydney, Carmella McNeil, Hantsport, N.S., Catherine (Philip) Andrews, Coxheath; four sons, Michael (Heather), Victoria Mines, Colin, at home, Ralph (Judy), Jasper, Ont. and Patrick, Bridgewater; two sisters, Rosella Hogan, Glace Bay, and Dorothy Bonnello, Ontario; two brothers, Eddy, Glace Bay, and Michael, Ontario; 21 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by two brothers, Bernie, Allister and one sister, Mae.
There will be no visitation by request. Funeral mass will be held Friday, 11 a.m. in St. Theresa’s Church, Rev. A. MacDougall officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
Donations may be made to the Canadian Arthritis Society.

Carmella was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and will be dearly missed by all.
Hattie Mildred Giffin
84, Sydney
Hattie Mildred Giffin, MacGillivray Guest Home, formerly, Gray Street, Sydney, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2001, at the guest home with her devoted daughter and staff by her side.
She will be sadly missed by her daughter, Carol Anne Dobbs, Sydney, special and devoted friend, Roy Lewis, Sydney, granddaughters, Sherri Brown, Harrietsfield, and Karen (Rob) Lothier, Lake Echo, great-granddaughter, Krystal, Harrietsfield, and great-grandson, Joseph Gordon Brown, Alberta.
Hattie is also survived by her sisters, Hazel Smith, Port Hawkesbury, Viola MacDonald, Montreal, Thelma Fewtrell, Kingston, Ont., and Leona MacHattie, Goshen, and several nieces and nephews.
Hattie was predeceased by her husband, Gordon, parents, Clarence and Bessie Myers, a sister, Edith MacLellan, and a brother, in infancy.
Visitation will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel today (Wednesday) 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the chapel Thursday 11 a.m. with Rev. Andy Crowell officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Dorothy G. Hawley
76, Sydney
Dorothy G. Hawley, 76, of Sydney, passed away at the QEII, Victoria General Site, Halifax, on Monday, Jan. 22, 2001.
Born in Newfoundland, she was the daughter of the late Sydney and Clara Penny.
She is survived by four daughters, Irene (Mrs. Howard Boutilier), Ottawa, Ont., Jeanette (Mrs. Brian McCann), Peterborough, Ont., Hughena (Mrs. Bev Feairs), Edmonton, Alta., Valerie (Mrs. Greg MacMullin), Timberlee, N.S.; two sons, David (Pat), Toronto, Ont., Donald (Bernadette), Sydney; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Hugh O. Hawley and an infant son, Richard Hugh.
Cremation has taken place. Private family service to be held at a later date.
Myrtle MacDonald
Sydney
Myrtle MacDonald, a resident of Victoria Road, passed away suddenly, Thursday, Jan. 24, 2001, at her home.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Abram and Mary (Pottle) Barrett.
She was a member of Christ Church, Sydney. Myrtle was an avid bridge player and loved a game of tarabish.
She is survived by her daughters, Marilyn MacIsaac, Sydney and her son, Lawrence; Glenda (Paul) Fougere, Petit de Grat and her children, Molly and Glenn; a stepdaughter, Jean Gushue, Sydney and her seven children and 11 grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters, Greta Leadbeater, Sydney, and Florence Bottaro, Penticton, B.C. and brothers, George (Ruth), Hillside Mira, and Fred (Liz), California.
She was predeceased by her husband, Neil (Ripper), brother, Roy, sister, Marguerite Arsenault and a grandson, Michael.
Visitation will be held Friday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Sydney Memorial Chapel. Cremation to follow. A funeral service will be held Saturday, 2 p.m. at Christ Church with Rev. Glenn Kent officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
Donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Frank Nemeth
79, Sydney
Frank Nemeth, 79, of Sydney, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001, after a lengthy illness, surrounded by his loving family at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Yugoslavia, he was the son of the late John and Matilda (Eller) Nemeth.
He was an employee of the Sydney Steel Plant for 45 years. He was a member of St. Theresa’s Parish, Sydney.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Viola McCarron; his children, Frank (Marie), Hacket’s Cove, N.S., Susan (Gaye) Dixon, Sydney; Jim (Jocelynn), Halifax, Jane (Carlton) Lunn, Louisbourg, Margaret (Donald) MacLeod, Sydney, Joe (Willena), Marion Bridge; 13 grandchildren, Lisa, Amy, Laura, Billy, Matthew, Jennifer, Evan, Melissa, Nicky, Christopher, Ryan, Florie Beth and Scott. Also surviving are a brother, John (Frances), Scarboro, Ont.; a sister, Irene Lodato, London, Ont. and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a sister, Ann.
Visitation will take place in T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, Sydney, today (Saturday), 7-9 p.m. and Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be held Monday, 11 a.m. in St. Theresa’s Church, Rev. Angus MacDougall officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.

Mary Jane Aucoin, 83, of 783 Victoria Road, Sydney, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Edmonton, Alta., she was the daughter of the late Herry and Veronica Davis.
She was a member of Holy Redeemer Parish, Whitney Pier and the CWL Family Service.
Surviving are two daughters, Marie, at home, and Mary Lou (Brien) Cullain, Ottawa; four sons, Henary, Toronto, Bernie (Greta), Kingston, Ont., Kenny (Judy), Coxheath, and Francis (Ellen), Sydney; a brother, Paddy Davis, Westmount; and eight grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Angus; sisters, Betty, Madge, Lena, Marie; brothers, Francis, Cyril, and Billy.
The late Mrs. Aucoin had visitation Sunday from 7-9 p.m. and will be today (Monday), from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. on the second level in T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, in Holy Redeemer Parish, Whitney Pier, Fr. E. MacDonald officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
