Roy Ignatius McAdam
80, Glace Bay
Roy Ignatius McAdam, 80, of Glace Bay, passed away peacefully, Friday, March 16, 2001, at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex, after a brief illness.
Born in Glace Bay, March 12, 1921, he was a son of the late James and Elizabeth (Coleman) McAdam.
Roy was a long time Cape Breton Post delivery person having delivered newspapers up until his 65th birthday. Although somewhat disabled he followed local sports and was a bowler on several teams in the town bowling leagues.
He was born in the New Aberdeen district, Glace Bay, but resided at 706 Sterling Rd. for the greater part of his life.
At the time of his death he was residing in a senior citizens’ complex, 55 Minto St., Glace Bay.
He was predeceased by his parents and one brother, Jack McAdam.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family and is survived by a number of cousins in the Glace Bay and Sydney area.
There will be no visitation, cremation has taken place. A memorial mass will be celebrated in St. Leo’s Church at a time to be announced with Fr. Paul McGillvray officiating.
Adam Michael Campbell
28, Glace Bay
Adam Michael Campbell, 28, of 349 York St., Glace Bay passed away at his residence, Saturday, March 17, 2001.
Born in Port aux Basques, Nfld., he was the son of Patrick (Pat) Benoit, Stephenville, Nfld. and Margaret Rose Campbell, Glace Bay.
He was employed with ICT call centre, Sydney. He enjoyed playing darts and tarabish.
He will be sadly missed by his parents; daughters, Sara and Grace, Dartmouth; son, Dylan, Dartmouth; brothers, Reed Campbell, Calgary, Shane Cormier, Brooks, Alta.; sisters, Ann (Mrs. Gary O’Brien), Reserve, Wanda Campbell, Reserve, Nina Cormier, Stephenville, Nfld. and Vina Cormier, Fort McMurray, Alta.; paternal grandparents, Onesime and Mary (White) Benoit, Codroy Valley, Nfld.; two nieces and one nephew; aunts and uncles and a wide circle of family and friends.
Adam was predeceased by maternal grandparents Michael and Agnes (Cox) Campbell, St. Andrews, Nfld.
Visitation for Mr. Campbell will be held Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Funeral mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. Anne’s Church, Glace Bay, Father Doug Murphy will be officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery at a later date.

Virginia Jobe
88, Glace Bay
Virginia Daly Jobe, 88, of Glace Bay, passed away peacefully at the Seaview Manor, South Street, Glace Bay Saturday, March 17, 2001.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late John and Viola (Lemont) Tobin.
She was a longtime member of Holy Cross Parish and served with various societies. She was an instructor with the Brownies and the Girl Guides within the parish, a commitment that gave her lifelong satisfaction.
She is survived by two sons, James (Mary), Glace Bay, Paul (Myrna), Englishtown; four grandchildren, Andre, Melanie, Kellie and Leslie; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Theodore, Sydney and Norbert, B.C.; two sisters, Mary, Alberta and Theresa, Sydney.
She was predeceased by her husband, Leslie; brothers, Edward, Vincent, Lawrence and George; sisters, Henrietta, Dorothy and Rose.
Visitation will be in Curry’s Funeral Home, Glace Bay Monday (today) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A mass of resurrection will be celebrated in Holy Cross Church Tuesday at 11 a.m. with Father John Graham officiating. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery at a later date. The family requests that there be family flowers only and memorial donations may be made to Cape Breton Palliative Care.
George William Pyke
71, Glace Bay
George W. Pyke, 71, of 3 MacDonald Lane and formerly of Forest Street, Glace Bay, passed away Monday, March 19, 2001, at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Louis and Effie (Morrison) Pyke.
George was employed as a construction worker for many years. George was an adherent of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Glace Bay.
George will be sadly missed by Wendy and Gary Brezuk and two children, Amanda and Gary Jr.
George was predeceased by son, Calvin Bruce and two brothers, Ernest and Jimmy.
Visitation will be held Thursday, March 22 from 1 p.m. until the funeral time at 2 p.m. in Patten Funeral Home Chapel, 71 Union St., Glace Bay, with the Rev. Eric Lynk officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery at a later date.
Monica McNeil
84, Glace Bay
Elizabeth Monica McNeil, age 84, of Seaview Manor, South Street, Glace Bay, formerly of Winona Street, Glace Bay, died Monday, March 19, 2001, at Glace Bay Healthcare Complex, South Street, Glace Bay.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late William and Nora Burke of Glace Bay.
She was a member of St. Anthony’s Church and enjoyed walking and bowling.
Surviving are four daughters, Nora (Michael) MacNeil, Sydney, Kathleen (Gerard) MacDonald, Reserve Mines, Janet (Robert) King, Dartmouth, and Cecilia Kennedy, Glace Bay; three sons, Robert (Betty), Sydney, Raymond (Mary), Sudbury, Ont., and Herbie (Shirley), Glace Bay; 19 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Herbert McNeil, sons, William and David, brother, William, sisters, Mary, Alice, Helen and Cecilia.
Visitation will be in Curry’s Funeral Home Ltd., 775 Main St., Glace Bay, today (Wednesday) 7-9 p.m. and Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Funeral Mass of Resurrection will be held Friday 11 a.m. in St. Anthony’s Church, Rev. Peter LeBlanc officiating, with interment in St. Anthony’s Cemetery at a later date.
Donations may be made to Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia.
Ethel Blanche Copley
Glace Bay
Ethel Blanche Copley of Seaview Manor and formerly of 227-A King Edward St., Glace Bay, passed away at Seaview Manor, Monday, March 26, 2001.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Agnes (Taylor) Tilley.
Blanche ran a boarding house in Glace Bay for many years, she was a member of Epworth United Church, the UCW and the Golden Years of the church.
Blanche is survived by two daughters, Joan (Michael) Boone, Glace Bay, Ruth Whalen, Glace Bay; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brothers, Sid, Amherst, N.S. and Bob, British Columbia.
Predeceased by her husband, John Copley and brothers, Kenny and John.
Visitation for Blanche will be held Wednesday, March 28, 2001, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Patten Funeral Home and Chapel, 71 Union St., Glace Bay. Funeral service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in Epworth United Church with the Rev. Bill Matthews officiating. Interment will be at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney/Glace Bay Highway.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Epworth United Church Memorial Fund.
