John Alexander MacKay
82, Glace Bay
John Alexander MacKay, 82, of 161 Alexander St., Glace Bay, passed away on Monday, April 9, 2001, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Glace Bay, Nov. 20, 1918, he was the son of the late Alexander and Elizabeth (Neilson) MacKay.
Mr. MacKay was a member of United Baptist Church, Glace Bay. John worked with Dominion Coal Company as underground manager at No. 20 Colliery and then assistant manager at No. 26 Colliery, from there he was transferred to the Rane Building, where he retired in November 1983.
John is survived by his wife, Ruth (Foote) MacKay; sons, Jack (Lynn), Regina, Sask., Keith (Karen), Dartmouth; grandchildren, Collin, Winnipeg, Rosslyn and Kristin and great-granddaughter Morgan.
Predeceased by a daughter, Lois, sister, Catherine (Sis) Hoffman and brother, Ike MacKay.
Visitation for the late John MacKay will be held Wednesday, April 11, 2001 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Patten Funeral Home and Chapel, 71 Union St., Glace Bay.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, April 12, 2001, at 2 p.m. in United Baptist Church, York Street, Glace Bay, with Rev. Robert Reid officiating. Interment will be in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney/Glace Bay Highway.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or the United Baptist Church, Glace Bay.

Sidney H. "Buster" Weatherbee
82, Glace Bay
Sidney H. ‘Buster’ Weatherbee, age 82, of 103 Second St., Hub, Glace Bay, died on Monday, April 9, 2001, at Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Glace Bay, he was a son of the late Frank and Adlaide (Musgrave) Weatherbee.
He was a man of many talents and with his inventive mind could turn his hand to almost anything. He earlier worked for the Dominion Coal Company and in the construction trade.
For most of his life he was self-employed doing many jobs both big and small including blacksmith. He was keenly interested in the sport of boxing and harness racing, having trained several horses of his own.
He is survived by two daughters, Olga Ogley, Betty (Buddy) Morgan, both of Glace Bay; sons, James ‘Brother’ (Rita) and Harold ‘Buster’ (Carlotta), both of Glace Bay; nine grandchildren, Todd, Kimberly, Cindy, Darlene, Kathy, Sharon, Matthew, Shannon, Steven; six great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, Carmilla (Legnaro), son, Clifford, eight brothers, Levi, Bruce, Jim, Earnie, Oscar, Harold, Stewart and Fred, four sisters, Roxie, Shirley, Florence, Eva.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Visitation will be Wednesday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in Curry’s Funeral Home, Glace Bay.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in St. Mary’s Anglican Church with Rev. Canon Fev Arnold officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Donations may be made to charity of one’s choice.

Titus Austin Miller
77, Glace Bay
Titus Austin Miller, 77, of 190 Blackett St., Glace Bay, passed away Tuesday, April l0, 2001, at his residence.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Lebuis and Vanava (Langille) Miller.
Titus was an adherent of United Baptist Church. Titus was employed at the Glace Bay General Hospital for 45 years, he was very active in softball in his earlier years.
Titus is survived by his wife, Dolena (Jackson) Miller; sons, James (Donna), Bramalea, Ont., Tom (Norma), Glace Bay. He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren, Jamie, Jennifer, Susan and sadly missed by his grandson, Matthew, also survived by brother Gordon Miller.
Predeceased by brothers, Bill, Albert, sister, Yiola, Mrs. Dan MacLeod, Maude, Mrs. Walter Kuta.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 14, 2001 at 2 p.m. in Patten Funeral Home Chapel, 71 Union St., Glace Bay, with Pastor John Hannem officiating.
Interment will be in Forest Haven Gardens, Sydney/Glace Bay Highway.

Brendan Carl McIntyre
59, Glace Bay
Brendan Carl McIntyre, age 59, of 2 Sixth St., Glace Bay, died Thursday, April 12, 2001, at home.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late John ‘Joe’ and Irene (Hollingsworth) Mclntyre.
Brendan was a beloved husband and father. He was also a wonderful cook and housekeeper who helped to care for his mother-in- law in a compassionate, loving way.
He was a member of Saint John The Baptist Church, New Aberdeen. He was a former member of Branch 78 Legion, Dominion and was employed with Devco until his retirement in 1981.
Brendan was also a member of the draegermen team while employed with Devco. For many years he played guitar and sang with various bands and always retained his love of music.
Brendan is survived by his wife, the former Sheila Sudworth Ross; two daughters, Anita (David) Parsons and Joan McIntyre, both of Glace Bay; stepdaughter, Vanessa Ross, Glace Bay; one son, Gerard (Cathy), St. Catharines, Ont. He is aIso survived by brothers, Byron ‘Dick’, Kitchener, Ont., Reginald, Bedford, N.S.; a very special cousin, Mary MacMullen; his mother-in-law, Blanche Sudworth; and two grandchildren, Andrew and Ryan.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by one brother, Vernon ‘Bo’ and one sister, Joan.
Visitation for the late Brendan Mclntyre will be held Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Funeral mass will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Saint John the Baptist Church with Fr. Paul MacGillivray officiating.
Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Donations in memory of Brendan may be made to a charity of choice.

John Hugh MacEachern
75, Glace Bay
John, 75, a resident of Taigh Na Mara and a former resident of Sherbrook Street, Glace Bay, passed away Saturday, April 14, 2001, in the comfort of his wife and family.
Born June 3, 1925, in Glace Bay, John was the son of the late Hugh Angus and Elizabeth (MacKinnon) MacEachern.
He attended St. Anne’s School and enlisted in the RCAF in 1942. He was then assigned to the Bison 429 Bombing Squadron based in Leeming, England. He returned home in June 1945 to convalesce from injuries received during his service.
During his working years he was employed by Singer Sewing Machine Company, Boone & Grace Motors, Glace Bay, and the Town of Glace Bay.
John is survived by his loving wife, Mary Christine (MacDonald) MacEachern; daughters, Patricia, Jean and Elizabeth (David) Raniseth, all of Glace Bay, Phyllis (Ronald) Jackson, Summerside, P.E.I., and Doreen (Michael) Burke, Halifax; sons, Dr. John (Nancy), Berwick, N.S., Neil (Mary), Glace Bay, Gordon (Louise) Bobcaygeon, Ontario; sisters, Mary MacEachern and Kaye (Hector) Riga, both of Glace Bay; grandchildren, Sarah, Daniel, Aaron, Robinson, Scott, Dara, Janelle, Krista, Vanessa, Colin, Nicol, Johnathan, Joshua, Catherine, Jeremy, and Alexandra; great-grandson, Reid.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by grandson, Neil Brennan MacEachern; and his brother, Steve.
Visitation will be today (Monday) from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay. Mass of Resurrection in St. Anne’s Church Tuesday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Clifford Bisson officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.

Helen Hynes
93, Glace Bay
Helen Hynes, 93, a former long-time resident of 65 McLean St., Glace Bay, and for the past seven years a resident of Seaview Manor, passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2001, at the manor.
Born in Port-Au-Port, Nfld., she was the daughter of the late Philip Albert and Mary Ellen Hynes.
Prior to moving to Seaview Manor, Miss Hynes faithfully attended St. Mary’s Anglican Church and was honoured in 1980 for serving 50 years in the Sanctuary Guild. Helen was also honoured by the Citizens Service League for her many years of working for Meals on Wheels program.
Helen is survived by a sister, Mrs. Jessie MacKinlay, St. John’s, Nfld.; a number of nieces and nephews; a long-time friend, Elinor McArel and family and Catherine Hynes and family.
Helen was predeceased by sisters, Lilly and Mildred, brothers, John, Ernest, Israel, Arthur and Albert. A brother and sister died in infancy.
According to her wishes there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service and committal will be held at a later date in St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Glace Bay, with Canon Rev. Fev Arnold officiating.
Arrangements are entrusted to Patten’s Funeral, 71 Union St., Glace Bay.
