Alexander D. MacDonald (Sandy)
59, Glace Bay
Alexander D. MacDonald (Sandy), 59, of 105 Park St., Glace Bay, passed away Thursday, April 19, 2001, at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex.
Born in Glace Bay, he is the son of Norma MacDonald and the late Earl MacDonald.
He was employed with the Cape Breton Development Corp. for 25 years and a member of Knox United Church and also a member of Knox Choir.
Sandy is survived by his mother, Norma MacDonald, Glace Bay; daughter, Geralyn (Neil) Stockall, N.B.; sons, David (Charmayne), Windsor, N.S., Bryan (Leslie), Tokyo; sister, Donna Marie (David Neza), Lyndonville, N.Y.; also surviving are three grandchildren.
Sandy is predeceased by his father, Earl MacDonald in 1992.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, April 24, 2001 at 2 p.m. in Patten Funeral Home and Chapel, where family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the funeral with Rev. David MacLean officiating. Interment will be in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney/Glace Bay Highway.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Knox Church or Knox Choir.

Florence Wilson Boutilier
80, Glace Bay
Florence Wilson Boutilier, 80, a resident of Seaview Manor, Glace Bay for the past two years died Friday, April 20, 2001 at the Glace Bay Healthcare Complex.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late John A. and Catherine (MacCormick) MacDonald.
She was a member of Holy Cross Church. She was a beautiful lady, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by eight daughters, Kay King (Herb), Elaine Strong (Allan), Dolena Harte (David), Remigus Jones (Allan), Mary Arlene, Leslie MacDonald (Blair), Glenda, all of Glace Bay, Cheryl Mischiek, Brampton, Ont.; four sons, John T., Stevie, Billy and Kenny, all of Glace Bay. Also surviving is a brother, Tony MacDonald, of Sydney; 32 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by sons, Gordon and Charles; a daughter, Cynthia; three grandchildren, Michelle, Gordon Otto and April; and brothers, Kenny, Gordon, Clifford, Russell, Alexander and Nelson.
Visitation for the late Florence Wilson Boutilier was held Sunday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Funeral will be held today (Monday) at 2 p.m. in Holy Cross Church with Fr. John Graham officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Ronald Joseph McNeil
54, Glace Bay
Ronald Joseph McNeil, 54, a former resident of Walsh Lane, Bridgeport, passed away Saturday, April 21, 2001 at home, 47 Connaught Ave., Glace Bay.
He was the only son of Marjorie (MacKenzie) McNeil and the late Aloysius McNeil.
Born in Glace Bay, and was a member of Immaculate Conception Parish, Glace Bay. He attended St. Michael High School and was active in baseball and hockey, both as a player and coach.
Due to ill health he returned to Cape Breton from Ontario, where he was employed as a sanitation technician with Peek Frean Products.
Survived by his daughter, Michelle (Dan) Sipidias, Whitby, Ont.; two sons, Ronald Joseph and Derrick Matthew, both of Toronto. He was the proud grandfather of four grandchildren, Victoria, Tomia, Alyvia and Laura Anne Sipidias. Also surviving are special aunts, Nita, Betty, Margie, Josie, and his longtime friend and companion Lorna MacNeil. Ronnie will be sadly missed by his extended family and wide circle of friends.
No visitation. A memorial funeral mass will be conducted on Tuesday 11 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church with Rev. James Oliver officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery at a later date.
Arrangements entrusted to Curry Funeral Home Ltd., 775 Main St., Glace Bay.
Family flowers only please. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of one’s choice.

Mary Marlene Burke
54, Glace Bay
Mary Marlene Burke, 54, of 7 Bluewater Dr., Glace Bay, died Monday, April 23, 2001, at her residence.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Edward and Eliza (MacDonald) Burke.
She was a member of Holy Cross Parish, Glace Bay. She was a member of the Army and Navy Dart League and a member of the ladies auxiliary. Marlene was a volunteer for over 20 years at Town House Day Care. She was noted for her passion for cooking.
She is survived by her longtime companion, David Rea; three sons, Thomas, Dartmouth, Gerard (Tracey), Brantford, Ont., Aldon, Glace Bay; three brothers, Thomas (Shirley), New Brunswick, Johnny (Mary), Port Morien, Gerard (Marion), Glace Bay and one grandchild, Michael, and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by one daughter, Shauna Marguerite, one sister, Marguerite, brothers, Ranny and Walter, grandchild, Thomas Zachery and mother-in-law, Louise Rea.
Visitation for the late Marlene Burke will be held Wednesday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Funeral will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in Holy Cross Church with Fr. John Graham officiating. Burial will be in the Saint Anne’s Cemetery.

Mary Carmelita McKinnon
66, Glace Bay
Mary Carmelita McKinnon, 66, of 7 Arthur St., Glace Bay, passed away Thursday, April 26, 2001, at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late John T. and Josephine (Jessome) MacDonald. She was a member of St. Leo’s Church, Glace Bay. Carmelita enjoyed bowling and crocheting.
She will be sadly missed by her husband, Fabian; son, Brian (partner, Kenneth Sporleder), California; sister, Anna Marie (Mrs. James ‘Jimmy’ Kennedy), Glace Bay.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, John Joseph and sister, Wilma (Mrs. Bud Parsons).
Visitation for the late Mrs. McKinnon will be held Friday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday, 10 a.m. in St. Leo’s Church, Glace Bay, with Fr. Paul McGillivray officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery at a later date.
Donations in Carmelita’s memory to St. Leo’s Church are suggested as an expression of sympathy.
To the nurses and staff of the Glace Bay Health Care Complex for the special care given to Carmelita, the many prayers offered and well wishes expressed, to one and all, a most sincere thank you.

Viola Marie Hyisky
74, Glace Bay
Viola Marie Hyisky, age 74 of 36 Brookside Street, Glace Bay died April 27, 2001 at the Glace Bay Health Care Centre after a lengthy illness.
Born in Birch Grove, she was the daughter of the late John and Florence Dean.
She is survived by her companion, Gerome McNeil; daughter Florence (Michael McNeil) of Sydney; three sons Joey of Mira Gut, Terry (Jackie) of Glace Bay and Evan of Sydney.
Grandchildren Debbie, Andrew, Terry Izzy, Cori Marie, Brandy Mae and great grandson Michael.
A special person in her life was Percy Dean (Christine) of Kitchener, Ont., sister Anne MacLeod, Minnie MacDonald (Frances); brothers Robert Dean (Kay), Jack Dean (Evelyn), Dawn Dean (Anna).
Viola was predeceased by her husband Izzy Hyisky; brothers Herbert and Gussie Dean; sisters Nellie Postlethwaite, Edna Steele, Florence Dean and Bessie Dean.
Visitation will be held at Patten Funeral Home on Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Funeral service will be at Patten Funeral Home on Monday at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to charity of choice.
