William Robert (Bill) Gracie
83, Glace Bay
William Robert (Bill) Gracie, 83, of 11 McKenzie St., Glace Bay, died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, at the Harbourview Veterans Hospital, Sydney Mines.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Joseph (Joe) and Christina (McGillivray) Gracie. Bill was a veteran of the Second World War serving overseas. After his military days he was employed as a truck driver with Sally Anne’s Bakery in Glace Bay. He also was a bartender at the Royal Canadian Legion, Br. #3 in Glace Bay for 15 years, as well as being a member of the legion. Bill loved music and was an avid dancer. He was also very fond of playing cards and cribbage.
He is survived by two daughters, Andrea Gracie, Halifax, and Linda (Wayne) Cooke, Glace Bay, a brother, Tommy, Glace Bay, and cousin Barbara McGillivray, Glace Bay, three grandchildren, Marc, Troy, Michigan, USA, Jordon Gracie, Halifax, and Melissa, Acadia University, Wolfville, N.S., and several nieces and nephews.
Bill was predeceased by his wife, the former Alide Corsano and two brothers Buddy and Johnny.
Visitation will take place today (Monday) from 7-9 p.m. at the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Funeral service will be on Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will take place in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Donations in Bill’s memory may be made to a charity of choice or the Veteran’s Memorial Fund, Halifax.
Clarence Edwin Debison
Glace Bay
Clarence Edwin Debison, of 65 Lower McLean St., Glace Bay, N.S., passed away peacefully Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, in the Glace Bay Health Care Complex, South Street, with his loving family by his side.
Born in Glace Bay, he was a son of the late Fanny Elizabeth (Davis) and Henry Hibbert Debison.
He was employed for many years with the Devco Machine Shop as a blacksmith. He was also employed with Devco Security for a short period of time. He was a member of the Mechanics Local.
He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Marie (Gracie) Debison; two sons, Clarence (Valeria), Truro, N.S. and Wayne (Wendy), Glace Bay, N.S.; two loving grandchildren, Anne-Marie and Kara Whitney Debison and one great-grandson, Connor Debison.
Visitation will be at Curry Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay, Wednesday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass of Resurrection will be held Thursday, 2 p.m. in Holy Cross Church with Rev. John Graham officiating. Burial in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney-Glace Bay Highway.
Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or Palliative Care.
Robert (Bobby) Charles Wadman
21, Glace Bay
Robert (Bobby) Charles Wadman, 21, of 253 Brookside St., Glace Bay, passed away Thursday, Oct. 19, 2000, as a result of a motor vehicle accident on the Sydney/Glace Bay Highway.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of Jerry and Debbie Anne (Morrison) Wadman.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Glace Bay. He attended Morrison Junior High, then graduated in 1998 from Glace Bay High School. Bobby was an avid ball and dart player and was a member of Tower Road Dart League and the Town Lob Ball League. He was employed as a fisherman with his father.
He is survived by and will be sadly missed by his parents; son, Jeremy Nathan McLean, P.E.I.; sister, Shannon Lee (Vaughn) Ross, New Waterford; paternal grandmother, Nina Wadman, Glace Bay; maternal grandparents, Earl Morrison, Glace Bay and Mrs. Shirley (Donnie) Aucoin, Glace Bay.
Bobby was predeceased by his paternal grandfather, Robert Charles Wadman.
Visitation for the late Mr. Wadman will be held Sunday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Funeral mass will be celebrated Monday, 2 p.m. in St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Glace Bay with Canon Fev Arnold officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney/Glace Bay Highway.
Adele McDonald
92, Glace Bay
Adele McDonald, 92, of 203 Union St., Glace Bay, died Sunday, Oct. 22, 2000, at her residence.
Born in Ostrog, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Gottlieb and Caroline (Schairer) Ulmer. She was a member of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Glace Bay. She was also a member of the Golden Circle of the church. Adele was employed in Boston as a hairdresser and later in her home in Glace Bay for many years.
Adele is survived by two daughters, Barbara MacDonald, at home, Corinne McDonald, Toronto; sisters, Johannah Engelbrecht, Welsley, Mass.; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Predeceased by her husband Clarence McDonald, in 1999; a son, Robert F.; a sister, Clara Schachinger; and a brother John Ulmer.
Visitation will take place Tuesday, Oct. 24, from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in the Patten Funeral Home and Chapel, 71 Union St., Glace Bay. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, Oct. 25, at 2 p.m. in St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church with Rev. Eric Lynk officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Glace Bay.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Building Fund.
Charles Rudolph (Rudy) Morrison
70, Glace Bay
Charles Rudolph (Rudy) Morrison, 70, of 41 Murphys Lane, Glace Bay, died Saturday, Oct. 21, 2000, at the Glace Bay Healthcare Complex.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late John and Martha (MacIntyre) Morrison.
He was a member of Holy Cross Church in Glace Bay. Rudy retired around 1985 after 25 years service with C.N.R. His education was acquired largely in Nova Scotia, culminating in studies at St. Francis Xavier University and the Nova Scotia Technical College, Halifax. Rudy loved poetry and had a book of 39 sonnets entitled “Our Mother Earth” published by Vantage Press Inc., New York.
He is survived by one daughter, Frances Anne Morrison, Toronto, as well as two sisters, Kaye (Joe MacLellan), Dominion and Marilyn Foley, Sydney.
Rudy was predeceased by one brother, Fraser.
Arrangements under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay (849-4505) are incomplete and will be announced at a later date.
Memorials in memory of Rudy may be made to a charity of choice.
Cecil LeRoy (Roy) Pink
70, Glace Bay
Cecil LeRoy (Roy) Pink, 94, of Peppett St., North Sydney, died Friday, Oct. 20, 2000, at the Northside Community Guest Home, North Sydney.
He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph and Elizabeth Pink. Roy was employed as a stevedore with C.N. Marine in North Sydney until his retirement.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Cogan Pink; four step-sons, Edward J. Cogan (Agnes), Antigonish, James (Georgie) Cogan, John (Irene) Cogan, and Robert Cogan, all of North Sydney; three step-daughters, Geraldine (Andre) Cote, Sydney, Mary Theresa, Waterloo, Ont., and Julia, Cambridge, Ont.; a sister, Lou Taylor, Boston, Mass.; and a number of step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by sisters, Gertie and Kay.
There will be no visitation by request. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held Wednesday 11 a.m. from St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney, with Archdeacon Reg MacDonald officiating. Interment to follow in Lakeside Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of N.S. or a charity of choice.
