Eileen Billard
77, Glace Bay
Eileen Isobel Billard, 77, of 32 Water St., Glace Bay, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, at Breton Bay Nursing Home, Sydney.
Born at Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Angus and Flora Belle (Gillis) Campbell.
For many years she was an active member of C.A.M.R. in Sydney Mines. She enjoyed dancing, skating, bowling, and travel. She possessed a deep love for all who knew her.
Surviving are husband, Gordon Billard; three daughters, Rosanne (Frank) Campbell, Whycocomagh, Mary Eileen, Sydney, and Ruth (Philip) Crowdis, Dartmouth; a son, Ross, Halifax; two sisters, Rita Chisholm, Bridgeport, and Caddie MacPherson, Sydney; a brother, Dave, Bridgeport; grandchildren, Bridget, Lohen, Tess, Corinne and Falyn.
Predeceased by brothers, Dan, Ronald, Peter, Raymond and a sister, Lucille Leonard.
There will be no visitation. A mass of resurrection will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Church, Glace Bay, with Rev. Paul McGillvray officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens at a later date.

Sarah ‘Sally’ Mary MacDonald
Glace Bay
On Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, Sarah Mary ‘Sally’ MacDonald passed away peacefully at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Norman and Janie (MacDonald) Clyburn.
She was a member of Knox United Church in Glace Bay, and she is the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Sally is survived by her daughter, Sheliah (Wilson) MacIntyre; her beloved grandchildren, Matthew (Kim) MacIntyre, Sara (Michael) MacIntyre; and three great- grandchildren, Mikey, Hannah and Victoria.
Sally was predeceased by her husband, Allan ‘Pontiac’ MacDonald, two brothers, Billy and Stephen, a sister, Norma Jean and stepson, Forbes MacDonald.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of her life will be held at Knox United Church, Commercial Street, Glace Bay, today (Saturday) at 2 p.m., with Rev. David MacLean officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Mary Alice MacLean
87, Glace Bay
Mary Alice MacLean, 87, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, at her residence in Taigh Na Mara, Glace Bay.
She was a daughter of the late John and Olive (LeFort) LeLievre.
A life-long resident of Reserve Mines, she was a long-time member of the ladies auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 2, and St. Joseph’s Parish, both in Reserve Mines.
She is survived by her son, Kevin, Bras d’Or; daughter, Olive, Musquodoboit Harbour; and three grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Jack, sons, Harvey and Keith.
There will be no visitation. Interment services are scheduled for Friday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, MacKay’s Corner, Rev. Francis Cameron officiating.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Curry Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay.
James MacKay
92, Glace Bay
J. Corliss MacKay, 92, of 835 Main St., Glace Bay, passed away in Halifax on Monday, Jan. 1, 2001.
He was born in Chignecto, N.S. in 1908.
Corliss will be remembered as a strong family man and friend. He lived life to the fullest and with the belief that a good belly laugh a day helped us all enjoy life. The door of his home in Glace Bay and bungalow in Mira were always open to friends and family. Even if you didn’t know them when you arrived you were sure to leave with many warm and fond memories of the hospitality provided by he and his wife Midda.
Starting as a blacksmith’s helper, Corliss moved on to various other jobs in the Dominion Coal Mine Company (now Devco) retiring as Superintendent of Scales in 1968. He also taught mining engineering in night school in New Waterford. In his early years he was very active in sports and was the last surviving member of the Niviac Basketball Team of Calvin Church in New Waterford. He was an avid cribbage player, fisherman and champion horseshoe pitcher and bowler.
He is survived by his children, Isabel Harris, Glace Bay, Heather Irwin (Gene), Dartmouth, Lewis (Jane), Dartmouth, Bunny Taylor (Charles), Halifax; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; his sisters, Leona MacKay, New Waterford, and Doris Shorten, Moncton.
He was predeceased by his wife, Catherine Ford ‘Midda’ (Lewis), his father, William Corliss, his mother, Margaret Elizabeth (Skidmore), brothers, Kenneth, Calvin, and Russell, sisters, Marjorie Parach and Beryl Wilton.
His remains have been cremated. There will be a gathering for family and friends at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay, Saturday, Jan. 6, from 2-3 p.m., to be followed by a memorial service with Rev. David MacLean officiating. Interment will take place at a later date.
No flowers by request. Donations in his memory may be made to the Nova Scotia Lung Association or a charity of your choice.
George David Pink
60, Glace Bay
George David Pink, 60, of 52 Water St., Glace Bay, passed away, Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex, surrounded by his family and friends after a brief battle with cancer.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Walter and Jennie (Warren) Pink.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Glace Bay. David was employed as a fisherman for 41 years and was a great lover of sports.
David is survived by his wife of 38 years, Theresa (Shaw) Pink; son, Chris (Sherry) and two loving granddaughters, Candice and Cameron; sisters, Rosella (Tom Stevenson), Vera Derring, both of Glace Bay; brothers, Walter, Glace Bay and Albert, Dartmouth.
David was predeceased by a sister, Elsie and one son in infancy.
There will be no visitation by request. Cremation has taken place. Funeral service will be held Friday, Jan. 5, 2001 at 2 p.m. from St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Marconi Street, Glace Bay with Canon Rev. Fev Arnold officiating. Interment will be held at a later date.
Donations in David’s memory may be made to St. Mary’s Building Fund or the Canadian Cancer Society.
Bernard Redmond
65, Glace Bay
Bernard (Bernie) Redmond, died suddenly Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital, Attleboro, Mass.
Born in Glace Bay, N.S., he was the son of the late John and Kathleen (Murphy) Redmond.
For many years he worked in Glace Bay as a plumber.
Surviving are his son, Bernie (Dolly), Taunton, Mass.; daughter, Paula (Henry) Torrey, Foxboro, Mass.; grandsons, Stephen and Michael Torrey. Also a brother, Frank (Sylvia), Glace Bay; sisters, Sally, Massachusetts, Ruth (Dan) Pezzariello), Halifax, Jackie (Fred) Hiscock, Glace Bay, Mary (Ron) Canary, Glace Bay, Ann Stuart, Massachusetts, Audrey (James) O’Neill, Glace Bay.
Bernie was predeceased by his wife, Hazel (Peterson), a brother, Peter and sister, Paula.
A private family service has taken place.
