Aloysius (Wish) Kelly
83, Glace Bay
Aloysius (Wish) Kelly, 83, passed away Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, at the Glace Bay Healthcare Centre. He was the son of the late Thomas and Margaret (Carey) Kelly.
Aloysius worked at No. 20 Colliery until 1959, then had his own business, Kelly’s Appliance Repair Service, worked several years in cleaning maintenance at the Heavy Water Plant and retired from Sears Shipping and Receiving in 1983.
He will be remembered for his assistance at parish summer camps, a playground he had for about 10 years. He was very active in parks and recreation especially the Black Diamond in New Aberdeen. He loved gardening and outdoor activities.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Cecilia (Harrietha) Kelly; daughters, Peggy (Mrs. Francis Bonnar), Glace Bay, Patrice MacLeod, Dartmouth; sons, Kevin (Anne Marie), Cotter (Barbara), both of Glace Bay; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He is survived by three brothers, Pats, Glace Bay, Ray (Margie Currie), St. Catharines, Ont., Cy (Helen), Alymer, Ont.; four sisters, Mary (Sis) (Mrs. Ike Batten), Betty (Mrs. Joe Devison), Dorie (Mrs. Jack Nicholson), all of Glace Bay, Teresa (Mrs. John MacInnis), Kitchener, Ont. Numerous nephews and nieces, who loved him dearly. Also a number of caring godchildren.
He was predeceased by brothers, James and Joseph and a granddaughter, Sherrie Lee.
Aloysius was granted his wish to give his body to science at Dalhousie University where his ashes will later be placed in the gardens at Dalhousie.
There will be a memorial service at St. John’s Church, New Aberdeen, Saturday, Jan. 27 at 11 a.m. with Fr. Paul MacGillivary officiating.
Family flowers only, donations in his memory may be given to a charity of choice.
Archibald Robert MacVicar Ferguson
70, Glace Bay
Robert (Bobby) Ferguson, 70, of 29 Catherine St., Glace Bay, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, at his residence.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Ronald and Viola (MacVicar) Ferguson.
Robert was a member of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, where he held the position of Elder for 30 years. Robert was employed with the Canadian National Railway for 43 years.
Robert is survived by his wife, Gloria Elizabeth Ferguson; daughter, Nancy (Michael) McCabe, Calgary; sons, Bruce (Heather), Keith (Rose Mary), both of Halifax; sister, Florence Wadden, Westmount; brother, Norman Ferguson, Glace Bay, and seven grandchildren.
Robert was predeceased by a daughter, (Carolyn) Margaret Ferguson.
Visitation for the late Mr. Ferguson will be held Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and Thursday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Patten Funeral Home and Chapel, 71 Union St., Glace Bay. Funeral service will be held Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, at 2 p.m. at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Brookside Street, Glace Bay, with the Rev. Eric Lynk officiating. Interment will be in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney Road.
Donations in Robert’s memory may be made to St. Paul’s Building Fund or to a charity of one’s choice.
Howard Murray Coadic
72, Glace Bay
Howard Murray Coadic, 72, of Upper Prince Street, Sydney, passed away at home on Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001.
Born in North Sydney, he was a son of the late Walter and Hilda (Mullons) Coadic. Howard was retired from Sydney Steel.
Surviving are his wife, Kathleen (Sampson); daughter, Rhonda, Ontario; son, Clifford (Wendy), Vancouver; sister, Jane Manuel, Halifax; brothers, Simon, Hamilton, Don and Bud (Mary), both of Sydney; and grandchildren, Colleen and Kevin.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Robert Wilson
61, Glace Bay
Robert Winston Wilson, 61, of 7 Reidville St., Glace Bay, passed away suddenly at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex, on Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Hyler and Elsie (Stevens) Wilson.
Robert worked 21 years as an electrician for Devco in the coal piers in Sydney. He also belonged to Branch No. 3 Royal Canadian Legion many years ago. Robert loved darts, pool, and playing golf.
Robert is survived by his wife of 36 years, Blanche (Leeman); daughters, Roberta (Leon) MacKenzie, Shawna; sisters, Myrna, Dorothy (Jackie); brothers, Weldon, Richard (Pat); four grandchildren, Amanda, Bria, Christian and Matthieu.
Visitation for the late Mr. Wilson will be held Friday, Jan. 19, from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in the Patten Funeral Home and Chapel, 71 Union St., Glace Bay. Funeral service will be held Saturday, Jan. 20, at St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Glace Bay, with Canon Rev. Fev Arnold officiating. Burial will be held at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.

Catherine Margaret Peach
87, Glace Bay
Catherine M. Peach, 87, of Glace Bay, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001, at the Victoria Haven Nursing Home, Glace Bay, where she has been a guest for the past seven years. She was formerly from 17 Brooklyn Street, Glace Bay.
Born in Catalone, C.B., she was the daughter of the late Roderick E. and Margaret (MacLean) MacLean.
Catherine was a member of Knox United Church, Glace Bay, and of the Knox UCW. She was a former member LOBA. For many years she operated a convenience store with her husband Hugh Peach, on Brooklyn Street, Glace Bay.
A kind and generous nature, she was a friend to all who knew her.
She is survived by sister, Margaret MacLean, Halifax; sisters-in-law, Shirley MacLean, Sydney, and Edith MacLean, Ontario; brother-in-law, Thomas Peach, Glace Bay; nephews, Gordon and Gus MacLean, Sydney, Charlie MacLean, Newfoundland, John A. MacLean, Alberta; nieces, Margaret Steele, Sydney, Kathy Wadden, Catalone, and Jean Dunbar, Alberta; several cousins and special cousin, Grace Marie Cameron.
She was predeceased by her husband, Hugh Peach, two sons, Ewen and John in infancy, four brothers, Angus, Ontario, Neil, Louisbourg, John A., Catalone, and Strath, Sydney, niece, Pauline MacLean, Sydney, sister-in-law, Elsie MacLean, Louisbourg.
Visitation will be held Thursday, Jan. 18, from 7-9 p.m. in Patten Funeral Home and Chapel, 71, Union St., Glace Bay. Funeral service will be held Friday, Jan. 19, at 11 a.m. in Patten Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. David MacLean officiating. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery, Glace Bay.
Mary (nee Jamieson) Struthers
90, Glace Bay
Mary Napier Jamieson Struthers, 90, of Seaview Manor, Glace Bay, passed away peacefully at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Levin, Scotland, she was the daughter of the late John and Rachel (Hughes) Jamieson.
During her years as a resident of Donkin, she was active in the UCW and a choir member of St. Luke’s United Church. She was also a member of the Rebekah Lodge. Since moving to Glace Bay she had been a member of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Glace Bay.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Joan MacKeigan, Glace Bay; sons, James (Gwen), Port Morien, Bert (Norma), Surrey, B.C., and John, Port Hawkesbury; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Cuthbert; and her sister, Lillian.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, Jan. 23, from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday in St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Brookside St., Glace Bay, with Rev. Eric Lynk officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Glace Bay.
