Mary Louise MacKinnon
83, New Waterford
With deepest sadness, the family of Mary Louise MacKinnon, 433 12th St., New Waterford, announces her passing on Friday, April 13, 2001.
Born in New Waterford 83 years ago, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. P.G. Muise, former mayor of New Waterford. Devoted wife of the late Dan (Diddles) MacKinnon, she was also a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Our mother received great comfort from her many years as a choir member, both of St. Michael’s and Mount Carmel parishes. She was also a member of Mount Carmel CWL. In later years she joined a bowling league, where meeting with her newfound friends became a weekly highlight in her life.
For a number of years she worked at Oliver’s Convenience Store on St. Joseph’s Street, but the job she excelled at was being a dedicated wife and mother, doing so much for us and asking for so little.
Her unwavering faith in God and quiet dignity sustained her in the tragedies that fell upon her throughout her life.
She was predeceased by both parents; husband, Dan (Diddles); sons, Alexander, Danny and Butch; eight brothers; three sisters.
Surviving to mourn her passing are children, Diane (Tom Hickey), Glace Bay, Karen (D.J. Murphy), Mississauga, Ont., Elaine (Louie Lightfoot), Kentville, Blaise, British Columbia, and Olivia (Elliott Hogan), New Waterford; daughter-in-law, Donna MacKinnon, Toronto.
Deeply saddened also are her only remaining sister, Bernice (Mrs. Ernie McEachen), Mississauga, Ont.; 11 grandchildren, Danny and Andrew Attard, Eddie, Tommy and Brian Hickey, Adam and Cindy Lightfoot, David and Darren Tatlock and Skye and Morgan MacKinnon; and three great-grandchildren, Madison, Jacob, and Jordan Hickey.
Visitation took place Sunday from 7-9 p.m. and will take place today (Monday) from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. at the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. Funeral mass will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. in Mount Carmel Church, Fr. Donald MacGillivray officiating. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery.
The CWL is asked to meet at the funeral home Monday at 3 p.m. for a prayer service.
As an expression of sympathy for Mary, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation.
