Parnell Williams
88, Point Edward
Parnell Williams, 88, of Edwardsville, passed away peacefully Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, lovingly surrounded by his children.
Born at White Point, Victoria County, he was the son of the late Leo Williams and Agnes MacKinnon of Victoria County.
He was a member of the Church of Incarnation, Edwardsville.
He was employed at the Point Edward Naval Base for 21 years, retiring in 1960.
Surviving are his wife, the former Emily Lewis, also of Edwardsville; three daughters, Madelyn (David) Williams, Saint John, N.B., Agnes (Malcolm) Rudderham, Keltic Drive, Betty (Ron) Hennick, Edwardsville; five sons, Willard (Mary), New Waterford, Archie (Jill), Ottawa, Jake (Mary) and Ira (Bridget), both of Edwardsville, and Winston (Patricia), Saint John, N.B.
He is also survived by two sisters, Edna (Mrs. Charlie Halloran) and Jean (Mrs. James Jobe), both of Sydney; two brothers, Dan and Archie Dixon, both of White Point; 30 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife of 33 years, Ellen Rambeau and a second wife, Mary Lewis, two brothers, Jellico and Leo Dixon.
He was also predeceased by a great-grandson, Kenneth Bailey.
Visitation for the late Mr. Williams was held Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel.
Funeral mass will be held today (Wednesday) at 11 a.m. in Holy Rosary Church, Westmount, with Rev. Dan MacInnis officiating.
Interment will be in the Church of the Incarnation Parish Cemetery, Edwardsville.
Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to a charity of choice.
Alexander Edward MacRae
86, Point Edward
Alexander Edward MacRae, 86, Point Edward, formerly Southside Boularderie, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2001, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Middle River, he was a son of the late Catherine (Morrison) and William MacRae.
Moving to Boularderie at an early age, Alexander was the owner/operator of Shawfield Farm.
A well-known horseman and breeder, he was inducted into the Cape Breton Horseman Hall of Fame.
Alexander was a member of the Farmers Association and the Maritime Co-op Association.
He was a member and elder of St. John’s United Church, Big Bras d’Or.
Predeceased by his first wife, Georgina MacIntosh, Alexander is survived by his second wife, Phyllis (Grant-MacKenzie) MacRae; son, Lendal (Mary), Southside Boularderie; grandsons, who were his pride and joy, Shane (Paula) and Eldon (Ruth), both of North Sydney, and Billy (Tanya), Sydney Mines; five great-grandchildren; stepdaughter, Linda (Jack) D’orsay, Howie Centre; four step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; sisters, Ethel Morrison, Sydney Mines, Sadie Long and Eveyln MacRae, both of Dartmouth; and a brother, John, Dartmouth.
Alexander was predeceased by his brothers, Murdock and Roderick in infancy and stepson, Grant MacKenzie.
There will be no visitation.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 27, at 3 p.m. at St. John’s United Church, Bras d’Or, with Rev. L. Ihasz officiating, assisted by Rev. D. MacGuire and Rev. B. Spracklin.
Interment will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John’s United Church or the Cemetery Fund.
Clarence ‘Mel’ Melburne Hill
68, Point Edward
Clarence ‘Mel’ Melburne Hill, 68, of Point Edward, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, at home.
Born in Point Edward, he was the son of the late Percy and Lillian (Beaton) Hill.
Mel was employed by Chappell’s Building Supplies during the 1950s and 1960s.
A carpenter by trade, he worked on his own in the Glace Bay area building houses for several years.
He also worked as a school bus driver for the Cape Breton District School Board until his retirement in 1993.
Mr. Hill was a loving and dear father to his two children, Clarence (Vera Lynn), Sydney, and Veronica, at home.
He is also survived by his two sisters, Irene (Mrs. Albert Nickless), Sydney, and Pearl (Mrs. Danny Rudderham), Point Edward; five brothers, Stewart, Francis, Doug, and Hanson, all of Point Edward, and Ashburn, Louisbourg.
He was predeceased by his wife, Helen in 1983, brothers, Ernie and Percy, and sisters, Pauline Mildred and Catherine.
Mel will be sadly missed by all.
There will be no visitation for the late Mr. Hill.
Funeral service will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 30, in T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, Rev. J. MacDonald officiating.
Burial in Hardwood Hill Cemetery.
Donations may be made to a charity of choice.
Glenn (Buddy) Andrews
70, Point Edwards
Glenn (Buddy) Andrews, Rudderham Road, passed away peacefully at home, on Monday, Oct. 30, 2000.
Born in Sydney, he was the beloved husband of Marlene (MacMillan); father of Glenda (David), Scott (Pam) and Michael (Lynn).
Survived by one sister, Georgia (Bruce), Ottawa.
Son of the late Chapin and Lenora Andrews.
He was employed by Sydney City Fire Department since 1958 until his retirement in 1993.
He was an avid cattleman, woodsman, mechanic and welder.
Beloved father, grandfather and husband, he will be especially missed by his grandchildren, Aaron and Breton Keys, Samantha, Blair and Glennie Andrews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Warren.
No visitation by request.
A memorial service will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel, Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Jackie MacDonald officiating.
Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Cape Breton Palliative Care.
Reception to follow service at 255 Rudderham Rd., Point Edward.
