Malcolm Clarence MacNevin
76, Truro
Malcolm Clarence MacNevin, 76, of 12 Crescent Drive, Truro, passed away Monday, Oct. 23, 2000, at home.
Born in New Dominion, Prince Edward Island, he was a son of the late Rev. C.U. and Alice (Alden) MacNevin. He was an active member of the First United Church, Truro, where he taught Sunday School and was a Boy Scout Leader. He was District Commissioner of the Boy Scouts for a number of years and he was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #26. He graduated from the Nova Scotia Agricultural College in 1947 and MacDonald College in 1950 with a degree in Agricultural Engineering. He worked for a number of years at the Agricultural College in Truro and then furthered his education at Acadia University where he obtained a Bachelor of Education Degree and later a Masters Degree in Education at St. Mary’s University. He spent many years in the education field as teacher, supervisor of the N.S. Vocational Schools and Principal of the Truro Vocational School retiring in 1979. An avid outdoors person, Clarence loved fishing, hunting, outdoor sports and gardening.
Surviving are his wife, the former Irene Graham; son, Graham and wife Catherine, Truro; daughter, Judith and husband Steward Stefansson, Calgary; six grandchildren, Joshua, Rebecca, Robert, Marc, Graham, Richard; nephew, Robert MacQueen who made his home with him for a number of years; sister, Phyllis MacPherson, Dominion, N.S., several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother, Claude.
A Legion Tribute Service will be held on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. followed by a Memorial Service at 2 p.m. in the Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro, with Rev. David MacNaughton officiating. Burial in the Bible Hill Cemetery.
Family flowers only. Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Victorian Order of Nurses, the Palliative Care Unit of the Colchester Regional Hospital or to a charity of your choice.
Mary Lila Butts
78, Truro
Mary Lila Butts, 78, of Truro, died Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000, in the Colchester Regional Hospital, following a long illness.
She was the daughter of the late Lewis and Minnie (Quinn) Petrie, New Waterford, N.S.
She was the beloved wife of George and mother of George (Cynthia), Cumberland, Ont., Peggy (Wayne) Palmer, Oakfield, N.S., Kathy (Tim) Bryant, Mississauga, Ont.; John (Ellen), Truro.
She was grandmother to Ryan, Tara, Derrick, Sean, Aimée, Heather, Adam, Jessica and Kylie. She is also survived by a sister, Violet Petrie, Winnipeg, Man.; brother, Bernard Petrie, New Waterford, N.S.
She was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Petrie.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of the Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro.
No visitation by request. A family service and funeral mass is being celebrated Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000, at 2 p.m. in the Immaculate Conception Church, Truro, with Monsignor Martin Currie officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Victorian Order of Nurses or to a charity of your choice.
Evelyn (Gilbert) Lynds
Truro
On Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, Evelyn (Gilbert) Lynds passed away peacefully.
She was the sister of Kathleen Ings (Angus). She will be sadly missed by her husband, daughters, sister and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral will take place today (Jan., 3, 2000) in Truro.
Anthony (Tony) Martin Fisher
33, Truro
Anthony (Tony) Martin Fisher, 33, of 59 Curtis Dr., Truro, passed away Thursday, April 5, 2001, in QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax.
Born in Tatamagouche, he was a son of Julia (Ayles) Fisher, Oxford and the late Donald Fisher.
He was a former employee of Zellers Ltd. Tony was a big sports fan and enjoyed playing baseball and watching hockey. He was well liked by everyone and will always be remembered for his laugh.
He is survived by his wife, the former Cindy Stevens; son, Zackery Ryan; sisters, Donelda and Sandy Lepper, Tatamagouche, Loretta Fisher, Darlene Fisher, both of Dartmouth; brother, Mitchell and Fran, Regina Sask.; several nieces, nephews and one great-niece.
He was predeceased by a brother, James.
Visitation will be held Saturday from 7-9 p.m. in the Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St. Funeral service Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Onslow United Church with Rev. Janet Blois officiating. Interment at a later date in the Riverside Cemetery, Wallace.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Zackery Fisher Trust Fund.
Glen Frederick Martin
49, Truro
Glen Frederick Martin, 49, 16 Julien Lane, Millbrook Mi’kmaw Community, Truro, died peacefully Friday, April 27, 2001, amongst family and friends, at the QE II Health Sciences Centre, Halifax.
Born In Truro, he was a son of Madeline (Julien) and the late Frederick Martin.
Glen loved baseball and hockey and was active In those sports for a number of years. He started out as a drywall installer/finisher and was a carpenter for the last eight years, having worked for the Millbrook band council.
Prior to this, he was employed by the Native Council of Nova Scotia and CMHC as a building inspector and a welder employed with Millbrook Tubular Steel Co.
He is survived by his wife, the former Theresa Bernard, Eskasoni; sons, Richard Glen (and Linda Marshall, Membertou, the future mother of Glen’s first grandchild, due in September, 2001) and USMC Lance Cpl. Nolan Curtis, all at home; his mother, Madeline; brothers, Philip (Germaine), Walter (AIice), Barry (Patsy), Dean (Carol), all of Millbrook; sisters, Anita Doucette (Kenny), Membertou, and Marlene, Millbrook; godsons, Matthew (Mattie) Martin, Millbrook, and Curtis (Curtle Boy) Bernard, Eskasoni; several uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces and cousins.
He was predeceased by his father, Frederick Joseph Martin, maternal grandparents, Louise (Googoo) and Chief Joseph Julien, Millbrook, paternal grandparents, Lucy (Francis) and Phillip Martin, Restigouche, PQ.
Glen will be resting at his family residence, at 16 Julien Lane, Millbrook Mi’kmaw Community, after 2 p.m. Saturday.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, Millbrook, Monday, April 30, with Fr. Tom Kurudeepan and Fr. Kris Pyc officiating. Burial to follow in church cemetery.
Donations to Millbrook Minor Hockey, c/o the Millbrook Band Council would be appreciated by the family.
