Dennis Carl MacLeod
48, Albert Bridge
Dennis Carl MacLeod, 48, of 80 Paradise Rd., Albert Bridge, and formerly of Lake Road, Glace Bay, passed away home Monday, Nov. 27, 2000.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late John (Hopper) and Elizabeth (Hardy) MacLeod.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Glace Bay.
Dennis worked as a correctional officer with the Cape Breton Correctional Centre, Gardiner Road, until ill health forced him on disability.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Brenda (McCormick) MacLeod; sons, Kevin (Arlene), Glace Bay, Carl, at home; a sister, Norma Brandhagem, Oregon, U.S.A.; brothers, Ian (Anne), Glace Bay, Charles (Betty), Fergus, Ont., Allister (Roberta), Brampton, Ont. Dennis is also survived by a number of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation for Dennis will be held Thursday, Nov. 30, from 7-9 p.m. and Friday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in the Patten Funeral Home and Chapel, 71 Union St., Glace Bay. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, at St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Marconi Street, Glace Bay, with Rev. Canon Fev Arnold officiating. Interment will be held in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Glace Bay.
Donations in Dennis’ memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Morris Wayne McPhee
48, Albert Bridge
Morris Wayne McPhee, 48, of 442 Hills Road, Albert Bridge, passed away Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at home, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of Mrs. Isabelle (Penny) McPhee of South Bar, and the late Leonard McPhee.
Wayne was a member of St. Joseph Mission Church, Mira Ferry, and a member of the United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters, Local 682. Wayne worked as a welder for over 25 years and always enjoyed his friends, especially his regular Thursday nights.
Surviving are his wife, the former Wendy Aucoin; three daughters, Jill Tracey, Melissa Anne, and Katherine Aimee, all at home; three sisters, Leona (Cliff) MacDougall, Etobicoke, Ont., Rochelle Axworthy, South Bar, and Marie (Kenny) Long, Sydney; two brothers, Donald (Josie) and Robert, both of South Bar. Also surviving are many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
The late Mr. McPhee had visitation from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 14, in the T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, Sydney. Funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. today (Monday) in Stella Maris Church, Louisbourg, Rev. Conrad Edwards officiating.
Donations may be made to Cape Breton Palliative Care Society or Victorian Order of Nurses.
Gerald Francis Crane
69, Albert Bridge
Gerald Francis Crane, 69, of Hills Road, Albert Bridge, passed away Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, at Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, he was a son of the late William and Elsie (Buckland) Crane.
He was a member of the Anglican parish.
Gerald is survived by his wife, Barbara (Lloyd) Crane; son, Peter (Myra), Toronto; four grandchildren, Trevor, Daniel, Alicia, Patrick; three step-daughters, Sandra (Stephen) Cameron, Lower Sackville, Colleen Smyth, Sydney, Janet Smyth, Halifax; step-son, Kevin (Sandra) Smyth, Ontario; three brothers, Bob (Virginia) Crane, Sydney, Don (Joan) Crane, Toronto, Bill (Kaye), Victoria, B.C.
Gerald was predeceased by his first wife, Rhona (Sutherland) Crane; step-mother, Sue (Bess) Crane.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel. A graveside service will be held at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. with Rev. Glenn Kent officiating.
Haroldine Barbara (nee Beaver) MacKay
76, Mira
Haroldine Barbara MacKay, of 39 Pleasant Walk, Albert Bridge, passed away Friday, Feb. 16, 2001, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Louisbourg, where she resided until 1976 before moving to Mira, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Mary (Wilson) Beaver.
She was a member of First United Church, Louisbourg, and a member of Albert Bridge Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.
Haroldine was predeceased by her husband, Duncan A. MacKay, in 1979.
She is survived by two daughters, Jean Wadden and Beth (Brian) Kehoe, both of Catalone; three sons, Allan (Diane), Louisbourg, Harold (Michele), Dartmouth, and Grant (Jacqueline), Hills Road. She is also survived by a very special friend, Ann MacKay, Dartmouth; grandchildren, Lori, Amy, Trevor, Craig, Andrea, David, Mark, Christopher, Jonathon, Adam and Ainslie. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren; brother, Everett (Greta), Louisbourg, and sister, Myrtle (Leonard) King, Port Hawkesbury.
Besides her parents and husband she was predeceased by her son-in-law, Roddie Wadden, in August 2000, and her granddaughter, Michelle, in 1968. Also by her sister Catherine Harris; and eight brothers, Harold, Hughie, Tommy, Melvin, Donald, Duncan, Johnny, and infant brother Everett.
Visitation was held Sunday, Feb. 18, from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. and will be held today (Monday) from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at First United Church, Main St., Louisbourg. Funeral service to take place at 3 p.m. today at the First United Church, Rev. Austin officiating. Interment in Willow Grove Cemetery.
Family flowers only. Donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit, Cape Breton Regional Hospital.

James Roderick MacKay
75, Albert Bridge
James Roderick MacKay, 75, of 10 Wiesner Lane, Albert Bridge, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, at home.
Born in Big Lorraine, he was the son of the late John A. and Mary Johnton (MacKay).
He was a veteran of the Second World War. He spent 35 years working in Toronto for a Brampton Brick Plant, retired to Louisbourg, National Sea as a commissionaire. He was a member of the Gaelic choir and also a member of the Heritage Society in Louisbourg. He was also a member of the Union Presbyterian Church, Albert Bridge.
He is survived by his wife, Ileen Alvena (Wiesner) MacKay; stepsons, David (Helen) Wiesner, Hornes Road, Edward Wiesner, Dartmouth, Allan (Tonya) Wiesner, Wolfville, and Frederick Wiesner, Lower Sackville; sisters, Flora Fiander, Windsor, Margaret (Peg) Harpel (Vic), Louisbourg, Maude Franklin, Louisbourg, Christine Boudreau, Louisbourg; brother, Alex MacKay, Louisbourg. Also by six step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild, plus several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by brothers, Angus, George, and sister, Jemima (Minie) Morash.
Visitation will be held today (Wednesday) from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. at W.A. Chant Funeral Home, Louisbourg. Funeral service will be held Thursday 2 p.m. at Union Presbyterian Church, Albert Bridge, with Pastor Kevin Richardson officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of W.A. Chant Funeral Home, Louisbourg.
Memorial donations may be made to Cape Breton Palliative Care or the Cancer Society.
Evelyn (McKenna) Cormier
65, Tampa, Fla.
Michael (Paulette) McKenna of Hills Road, Albert Bridge, received notice Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001, of the death of his mother, Evelyn Cormier, in Tampa, Fla., after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
She was the grandmother of Meaghan, Michael, Katie and Erin.
Born in Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late Patrick Sheridan of Massachusetts and the late Florence (MacNeil) Sheridan, formerly from Irish Vale, N.S.
Also surviving are her other children and their families, Dan, Antigonish, N.S.; Patty and Kathy, South Carolina; Robert, Florida; and Jeannie, Jimmy and John, all of Massachusetts; as well as brothers, sisters, aunts, cousins and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Joe Cormier.
