Daniel (Peewee) Aucoin
60, Scotchtown
Daniel (PeeWee) Aucoin, 60, of 35 Cashin Crescent, Scotchtown, passed away Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000, at the family residence.
Born in New Waterford, he was the son of the late Leo and Katie Mae (Chaisson) Aucoin. PeeWee was employed at an early age at No. 16 Colliery with Dominion Coal Company. He later worked in Halifax at the Victoria General Hospital for many years. He was a member of Mount Carmel Parish, New Waterford.
He is survived by his brother, Charles; sisters, Donna Hogan (James) and Ann Hawley (Benney), all from New Waterford. He is also survived by many caring nieces and nephews and many special friends.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Gerald, Norman, Thomas; and a sister Loretta O’Donnell.
Visitation from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, New Waterford. Funeral service 10 a.m. Wednesday at Mount Carmel Church with Fr. Donald McGillivray officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.

Celeste Frances Timmons
77, Scotchtown
Celeste Frances Timmons, 77 of Scotchtown, died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2000, in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Ingonish, she was the daughter of the late George and Mary (Lambert) Williams. Celeste was a member of the Scotchtown Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She was also an avid baseball fan.
Surviving are her husband, Kenneth Timmons, Scotchtown; three daughters, Barbara (Mrs. Gary McDonald), Angus, Ont., Heather Timmons, New Waterford, Robin Timmons, New Victoria; three sons, Kenny Jr. (Agnes), Lingan Road, Sydney, Bernard, New Waterford, Brian (Colleen), Scotchtown; one brother, Morris Williams, Ontario; sisters, Regis McKinnon and Mary McPhee, both of New Waterford, Lucy Robbins and Anita (Mrs. Duncan Cuvelir), both of Ontario; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by sisters, Emma and Alice and one brother, George.
Visitation will take place Thursday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. Funeral mass will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Michael’s Church with Rev. Lester Marchand officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.
Donations may be made to the Cape Breton Palliative Care Society.

Robert Joseph (Joe) Hawley
56, Scotchtownp
Joe Hawley, 56, of 1 Catherine St., Scotchtown, passed away suddenly Thursday, Dec. 14, 2000, at the New Waterford Hospital.
Born in Port Hood, Joe was the son of Annie Bell (MacKinnon) Hawley and the late Ben Hawley.
He was a member of St. Michael’s Parish, River Ryan. Joe was employed with and also a member of Unit 217 ANAF, Smith Street, New Waterford. He was a sheet metal worker for a number of years and a taxi driver for Scotchtown Taxi.
Joe was an avid bingo player and enjoyed playing cards.
He will be sadly missed by former wife, Sharon (Burchell) Hawley, Scotchtown; daughter, Oralee (Peter), Vancouver; son, Robert (Maureen), Brampton, Ont.; sisters, Johnena, Boston, Thelma, Clara and Thelma Marie, all of Scarborough, Ont., Evelyn (Angus), Port Hood; brothers, Benny (Ann), Scotchtown, Dougie (Nellie), Port Hood; three grandchildren, Hannah, Zoe and Robert. Joe will also be missed by his many nieces and nephews, friends and relatives.
Besides his father, Joe was predeceased by a son, Joey, brothers, Angus and Donald Alex.
Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. today (Saturday) and from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. Funeral mass for the late Mr. Hawley will be held Monday, Dec. 18, at 10 a.m. in St. Michael’s Church, River Ryan. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or the Diabetes Association.

Charles William Hogan
57, Scotchtown
Charles William Hogan, 57, of 79 May St., Scotchtown, passed away peacefully at home, Sunday, Feb. 4, 2001.
Born in New Waterford, he was the son of Margaret Hogan and the late Jim Hogan.
Charles was a member of St. Michael’s Church, River Ryan.
He is survived by his loving wife, the former Noel (McLellan); two daughters, Sheila, Scotchtown, Patricia, Reserve; one son, Charlie Jr., Scotchtown. Also survived by his mother, Margaret Hogan, Scotchtown; one sister, Agnes (Bernie) Peckham, Scotchtown; two brothers, Sam (Mary), Scotchtown; Gabriel (Sandra), New Waterford. Charlie was a loving grandfather to his five grandchildren, Kevin, Ashley, Santana, Brittany, Dakota. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Charlie was predeceased by a sister, Mary (Mrs. Duncan Blewer), Scotchtown, brother, Francis (Chuckey) Hogan, New Waterford, three sisters in infancy and a brother in infancy.
Charlie will be sadly missed by all of his family.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. Funeral will take place Thursday, 10 a.m. in St. Michael’s Church, River Ryan. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

Bernard Peckham
67, Scotchtown
Bernard Peckham, 67, of 131 Ford St., Scotchtown, passed away peacefully Friday, Feb. 16, 2001, at his home with his family by his side.
Born in New Waterford, he was the son of the late Matt and Rachael (Turbett) Peckham.
He was a member of the Salvation Army, New Waterford. Bernie was employed with the lake boats for many years and later employed at No.16 Colliery. He was an active boxer on the lakeboats. He was also active in baseball and hockey in his younger years. He loved going hunting with his wife and son, Bernie Jr.
He will be sadly missed by his loving wife, the former Agnes Hogan; two daughters, Debbie (Johnny) Lemoine, Scotchtown, and Bernice (Michael) Williams, Scotchtown; two sons, Wesley (Esther), Scotchtown, and Bernie Jr. (Darlene), New Waterford; three brothers, Gord (Mary) and Jake, both of New Waterford, and John, Ontario.
He was loved by many of his nieces and nephews. He was a loving husband and caring father to his children. He was also a proud poppy to his 10 grandchildren, Kelly, Duke, Tanya, Melissa, Joey, Michael, David, Archie, Jessica, and Crystal. He also loved when his three great-grandchildren, Bradley, Austin, and Brandon, visited him.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by son, Bernie Jr.; four brothers, Henry, Wally, Nathan, and Wilfred; and his sister Elizabeth Kavanaugh.
Visitation was Sunday 7-9 p.m. and will be today from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. Funeral will be held Tuesday 2 p.m. in the Salvation Army Citadel with Captain Maxwell and Doris Snow officiating. Burial will be in Union Grove Cemetery, Scotchtown.

Gordon (Corn) Longphee
865, Scotchtown
Gordon James (Corn) Longphee, 65, of 12 Thomas St., Scotchtown, died March 31, 2001, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born in New Waterford, he was the son of the late Anthony and Katie Mae (McDonald) Longphee.
Gordon was a member of St. Agnes Church, New Waterford. He was a retired coal miner and at one time was employed at No. 12 and 16 collieries. Gordon loved sports, especially watching Blue Jays baseball games and he was also an avid dart player. He also served in the Korean War.
Gordon is survived by his companion, Marilyn McIsaac; two daughters, Cathy and Wendy, of New Waterford; one son, Gordon, of Cole Harbour; a stepson, Neil (Sheila) McIsaac, of Dominion; four brothers, Danny, Sydney, Cameron (Greta), New Waterford, Al (Betty), Ontario, Angus “Buddy” (Margie), Florida; two sisters, Rose Morrison, Sydney and Theresa (Mrs. Pat Walsh), Boston; five grandchildren, Loretta, Vanessa, Kyle, Christopher, Catherine.
He was predeceased by his wife, the former Carmel McDonald; two brothers, Greg and Teddy; two sons, Stephen and Tony; four daughters, Loretta, Theresa, Debbie and a daughter in infancy.
Visitation will take place Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home (862-6439), 380 Smith St. New Waterford. Funeral mass will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Agnes Church, Fr. Bob Neville officiating. Cremation to follow. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery at a later date.
As an expression of sympathy for Gordon memorial donations may be sent to a charity of choice.
