William Terrance (Terry) Chew
58, Antigonish
Terrence (Terry) Chew, age 58, 14 Park Lane, Antigonish, N.S., died Sunday, March 11, 2001 at home.
Born in Glace Bay, N.S., he was the son of Catherine (Edstrom) Chew, and the late William Chew.
He was a graduate of St. Michael’s High School, Glace Bay and St Francis Xavier University with B.Sc. degree in 1964 and B.Ed. degree in 1965.
He taught school in Antigonish for over 30 years.
He was a member of St. Ninian’s Parish and the Retired Teachers Association.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte (MacLellan); his son, Bill (Michelle), Sydney, N.S., and grandson, Thomas; a brother, Gary (Debbie), Sydney; nephews Jonathan and Jeffrey; Aunt Emily Edstrom.
Cremation has taken place.
No visitation by request.
Memorial mass 2 p.m. Monday, March 19, at St. Ninian’s Cathedral, Antigonish with Rev. Donald MacGillivray officiating.
Arrangements entrusted to MacIsaac Funeral Home Ltd., 61 Pleasant St., Antigonish.

Sr. Evelyn Larusic
Antigonish
Sr. Evelyn, formerly Sr. Mary Leocadia, a sister of St. Martha of Bethany Motherhouse, Antigonish, died at Bethany on Sunday, April 15, 2001, in the 68th year of her religious life.
Born in Dingwall, N.S., she was the daughter of the late John and Mary Alice (Dee) LaRusic.
Sister Evelyn entered the Sisters of St. Martha, Sept. 18, 1931.
Gifted as a seamstress and in fine needlework, Sr. Evelyn served at Bethany in the church vestment department for 18 years.
From 1954 until her retirement, she served in the congregation’s pioneering work of household service at St. Augustine Seminary, Toronto, Ont., St. Martha’s Convent, St. FX University, Antigonish, N.S. and for 19 years at St. Michael’s General Hospital and St. Monica Convent, Lethbridge, Alta. retiring to Bethany in 1991.
Sr. Evelyn served as community leader for 18 years in five of her missions.
Sr. Evelyn was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Alice Rita and Emma, four brothers, Bernard, John Joseph, Martin Francis and James Patrick.
The remains are resting at Bethany where a celebration of vigil will be held Tuesday, April 17 at 7:30 p.m.
Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, April 18 at 1:30 p.m. in Bethany Chapel.
Arrangements are under the direction of C.L. Curry’s Funeral Home, Antigonish.
Sr. Mary Luke Hayden
87, Antigonish
Sr. Mary Luke Hayden, 87, a Sister of Saint Martha, of Bethany Motherhouse, died at St. Martha’s Hospital on Wednesday, April 25, 2001.
She had been in hospital for a short period of time.
Born in St. John’s, Nfld., and baptized Mary Rita, she was the second oldest in a family of five girls, and the daughter of the late Luke Joseph Hayden and Julia Agatha (Kennedy) Hayden.
Sr. Mary Luke entered the Sisters of Saint Martha Sept. 8, 1935.
She was trained in piano and she continued to develop and upgrade this art and skill over the years.
In 1939, she obtained her RN from St. Joseph’s Hospital, Glace Bay, N.S.
Sr. Mary Luke served in the nursing field for 19 years in the east and west: St. Joseph’s, Glace Bay, N.S., St. Michael’s Broadview, Saskatchewan, St. Mary’s, Inverness, and St. Rita, Sydney, N.S.
In May 1956, she was unable to remain in nursing due to illness.
Subsequently, she served in various ministries at Little Flower Institute, Sydney, St. Paul’s Convent, St. Peter’s, New Waterford Consolidated Hospital, and St. Joseph’s Hospital, Glace Bay, N.S.
From 1978-89, she performed clerical work at St. Martha’s Hospital, Antigonish. Sr. Luke retired to Bethany in 1989.
She was the last surviving member of her family and was predeceased by four sisters, Elizabeth Clattenburg, Grace Finn, Margaret Davis and Paula.
The remains will rest at Bethany after 1:30 p.m. Sunday, April 29 where a celebration of Vigil will be held.
Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held Monday, April 30, at 1:30 p.m. in Bethany Chapel.
Arrangements are under the direction of MacIsaac Funeral Home, Antigonish.
Archie MacLean
83, Antigonish
Archie MacLean, 83, of Northview Drive, Antigonish, died Monday, Nov. 27, 2000, at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish.
Born in Middle River, he was a son of the late Roderick and Annie (MacRae) MacLean.
He was employed for many years at St. Francis Xavier University Extension Department as field worker, and later as bookkeeper in the business office.
He was a veteran of the Second World War and a member of Arras Branch 59, Royal Canadian Legion, Antigonish.
He was a former board member of L’Arche, Antigonish, a member of Friends of Schizophrenia Society, Theatre Antigonish and the Antigonish Food Bank.
Surviving are daughter, Margaret Ann MacDonald, Pleasant Valley; sons, John, North Sydney, Doug, Ottawa, Bill, Lower South River, Donnie, Fairmont, David, British Columbia; sisters, Marguerite Allen and Christene Edge, Rhode Island, Shirley Blois, Bedford; brothers, Roderick, New Hampshire, George, North Sydney; 12 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
He was predeceased by his wife, the former Isabel MacDonald, brothers, Donald and Bill.
Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. this evening and 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Thursday in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College St., Antigonish. Funeral service will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Ninian’s Cathedral.
Burial in the parish cemetery.

Kenneth Roderick (Kenny) MacDonald
Antigonish
Kenneth Roderick MacDonald (Kenny) of Antigonish died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2000, at the Health Sciences Center, QEII, Halifax, after a brief illness.
Surviving are his wife, the former Marcella Bates, Bateston; three daughters; son-in-law; two grandchildren and five sisters.
Visitation at the MacIssac Funeral Home, Antigonish.
Funeral 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Ninian’s Cathedral, Antigonish.
