George Carl Connors
94, North Sydney
George Carl Connors, 94, a resident of the Northside Community Guest Home and formerly of Young Avenue, North Sydney, died peacefully Wednesday, April 25, 2001, at the Northside General Hospital, North Sydney.
Born Oct. 19, 1906 in East Dover, Halifax County, N.S., he was the son of the late Michael and Clara (Duggan) Connors.
Carl retired in 1969 after 42 years of service with the CNR, the last 14 years as port superintendent in charge of North Sydney, Port aux Basques and Argentia. Carl was an avid fisherman and was a member of the Nova Scotia Salmon Association.
He was active in community affairs, he was a long time member and past-president of the North Sydney Rotary Club and was also a 3rd degree member of the Fr. William Kieley Council 5109 of the Knights of Columbus in North Sydney and was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in North Sydney.
Surviving are two sons, Norman (Joan), Boularderie Centre, and Eric, North Sydney; daughter-in-law, Marlene Connors, North Sydney; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Bernard, East Dover, Halifax County, N.S.
He was predeceased by his wife, the former Alice (Myra) Connors, one son, Carl and six brothers, Fred, Kenneth, Neil and Blake, all of Halifax, Percy and Guy, Massachusetts.
There will be no public visitation by request of the family. Funeral mass will be held Friday, April 27, at 10 a.m. from St. Joseph’s Church, North Sydney, with Rev. Gus MacLeod officiating. Burial to follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney.

David Allan Roberts
27, North Sydney
David Allan Roberts, 27, a resident of Caledonia Street, North Sydney, died Friday, April 27, 2001.
Born in North Sydney, he was a son of Lillian (Young) Roberts of North Sydney and of the late Leonard Roberts.
He was a member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney.
Surviving besides his mother is a brother John, of Sydney; grandmother, Charlotte Young, North Sydney; and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was predeceased by his father; his grandfather, Allan Young; and an aunt, Evelyn Young.
Visitation and funeral service arrangements are incomplete at this time and will be announced by the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney.

Veronica Clarke
87, North Sydney
Veronica F. (McCarthy) Clarke, 87, a resident of Peppett Street, North Sydney passed away, Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2000, at the QEII Health Science Center, Halifax.
Born in North Sydney, she was a daughter of the late Michel and Barbara (Taylor) McCarthy.
She was a member of St. Matthew Wesley United Church, North Sydney. Veronica was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother. A friend to all, she will always be lovingly remembered by all her family and friends especially for her sense of humour, her generosity and devotion to all who knew her, she will never be forgotten.
Surviving are three daughters, June (Jack Williams), Toronto, Leona ‘Sis’ (George Smith), North Sydney, Veronica (Harrol Pearson), Oklahoma; five sons, Francis ‘Bud’ (Betty), Harry (Colleen Poulain), both of North Sydney, Reginald (Rosemary), Lower Sackville, Edward (Pamela), Fall River, Roland (Lynn), North Sydney; two sisters, Delores Jesso, Dartmouth, Mary Lou MacLeod, Sydney.
She was predeceased by her husband, Henry T. (Harry) Clarke, children, Leslie, Barbara and Joan, brothers, Roland, John, Bill, Michael, sisters, Helen, Leona, Marion and Mary.
Visitation 2- 4 and 7-9 p.m. today (Friday) in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral service Saturday 2 p.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Luker officiating. Burial to follow at Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney. Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or to IWK Children’s Hospital.

Wesley E. Eastman
83, North Sydney / Framboise
Wesley Earl Eastman age 83, a resident of Framboise and formerly of 26 Vale St., North Sydney died Sunday, Sept.10, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Glace Bay, he was a son of the late Captain William T. and Eliza Ellen (Peach) Eastman. He was a veteran of the Second World War serving overseas with the Royal Canadian Navy (R.C.N.V.R.). He co-operated Bradman Sales of North Sydney for many years until his retirement.
Wesley was a member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney, a member of the men’s club and Order of St. Luke. He was Past Master Royal Albert Masonic Lodge No. 19, Past High Priest Royal Arch Victory Chapter No. 18, Past Thrice Illustrious Master MacDougall Council No. 7, Preceptor Cape Breton Preceptory No. 43, member of the Cape Breton Shrine Club, member Cape Breton Lodge of Perfection No. 14, member Order of St. Luke’s, member of Isle Royale Chapter Rose Croix No. 18, member of Nova Scotia Constitutory No. 32, High Priest Royal William Conclave Red Cross of Constantine, Past Worthy Patron Order of the Eastern Star, member of Golden Years Club, Past Vice President Cape Breton Naval Veterans, Honorary vice president of the Cape Breton Branch of the Canadian Bible Society, he was involved with Boy Scouts of Canada for 17 years and was past District Commissioner for Keltic District.
Surviving are his daughter, Donna (Mrs. John MacQueen), Framboise (with whom he resided for the past five years); one granddaughter, Erin MacQueen; one stepbrother, Lawrence Burt, Kamloops, B.C.; also a number of nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Phoebe (Bernard) Eastman; two brothers, William Anthony and Howard in infancy; two half-sisters, Henrietta Rollerson and Frances Eastman; one half-brother, John Matthew Eastman; stepmother, Margaret (Burt) Eastman; two stepsisters, Elizabeth Rumley and Gladys Chaisson, and two stepbrothers, William Burt and Fred Burt.
Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today (Tuesday) and Wednesday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral service Thursday 11 a.m. from St. John the Baptist Anglican Church with Archdeacon Reg MacDonald officiating. Burial to take place at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney. Floral tributes are welcome.
Masonic Lodge members are asked to gather for a service at the funeral home 8 p.m. Tuesday. Order of the Eastern Star members are asked to gather for a service at the funeral home 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Laura Porter
75, North Sydney / Mississauga, ON
Laura Porter, 75, a resident of Mississauga, Ont., formerly of North Sydney, died Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2000, in Mississauga.
Born in Rose Blanche, Nfld., she was a daughter of the late George and Mary (Collins) Bess.
Laura was a former member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church and of the Fulton Lodge LOBA.
Surviving is a son, Ron (Yvonne) Porter, Mississauga; two sisters, Ruth Pyke and Allie Billard, both of North Sydney; a brother, Norman Bess, Ajax, Ont.; grandchildren, Sheila, Scott, Laura and Lorraine and five great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, George Porter, a daughter, Caroline Benoit and a sister, Susie Kendall.
Visitation 7-9 p.m. tonight (Saturday) 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Sunday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral service 2 p.m. Monday at St. John the Baptist Church with Archdeacon Reg MacDonald officiating.
Burial to follow at Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
Memorial donations may be made to the CNIB Children's Fund.

Daniel MacIntyre
62, North Sydney
Daniel MacIntyre (Chewie), 62, a resident of Brook Street Extension, North Sydney, died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2000, at home surrounded by his family.
Born in Florence on January 26, 1938, he was the son of the late Norman D. and Eva (Boutilier) MacIntyre. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He worked as a coal miner with Devco until his retirement. Danny was an avid card player.
Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Mary (Walsh) MacIntyre; three daughters, Eileen (Gerald) Best, Manitoba, Tina (Jimmy) Sullivan, Sydney Mines, and Danielle, Halifax; three sons, Clarence (Marylynn), North Sydney, Daniel (Jackie), Sydney Mines, and Donald, Sydney; 10 grandchildren, Chris, Lisa, Roy, Amanda, Jesslyn, Lynsey, Timika, Lucas, Shelby, and Brandie; and one special great-granddaughter, Yvonne Hope. Also surviving are eight sisters, Beanie (Mrs. Vincent Legatto), Margie (Mrs. Cecil Boulter), Mary (Mrs. Andrew Gardiner), Gerry (Mrs. Wayne Devoe), Lesina (Mrs. Alex Edwards), Lillian (Mrs. Butch Bailey), Lorena and Helena; five brothers, Tommy (Thelma), Ronald, Phillie (Colleen), Melvin (Lorena) and Rickey; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by one daughter, Yvonne (Bonnie); a son, Alfred Daniel; and two sisters, Kay Fiander and Naomi Young.
Visitation will be held Monday 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral mass to be held Wednesday 10 a.m. from St. Joseph’s Church, North Sydney, with Rev. Tom MacNeil officiating. Burial to follow in Holy Cross Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
