Vincent K. Whalen
56, North Sydney
Vincent Kenneth Whalen, 56, a resident of Blowers Street, North Sydney, passed away suddenly Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, at home.
Born in North Sydney, he was the son of the late Peter and Grace (Blackmore) Whalen.
He was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in North Sydney. Vince was employed in his earlier years with Fred A. MacLeod Men’s Wear prior to its closing. In recent years he was owner/operator of the V & G Dairy on Regent Street, North Sydney, and most recently he was a taxi driver with Jardine’s Taxi in North Sydney.
Surviving are two sisters, Phyllis Andrea, Sydney Mines and Monica (Mrs. Robert Robertson), North Sydney; three brothers, Henry (Donalda), North Sydney, Dan (Judith), Sydney Mines, and George (Theresa), North Sydney. Loving uncle to Cheryl, Darren, Shelly, Shannon, Patricia, Lesley, Linelle, Tanya, Derek, Jennifer, Brett, Peter, Travis and Kyle. He was also a devoted greatuncle to Lindsay, Kayla, Lauren, Tyler, Breton, Matti and Ty.
Predeceased by his brother, Morgan.
Visitation will be Friday, Nov. 3, from 2-4, 7-9 p.m., in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral mass will be held Saturday, 10 a.m. from St. Joseph’s Church with Rev. Tom MacNeil officiating. Burial to follow in Holy Cross Cemetery in North Sydney.

Margaret “Lauder” Ingraham
90, North Sydney
Lauder (Smith) Ingraham passed away peacefully on Sunday, Nov. 12, 2000, at the Northside Community Guest Home.
Born in Bannockburn, Scotland in 1910, she was the daughter of the late James and Janet Smith.
In her early years she was well known locally as a champion highland dancer and dance teacher. Lauder will be remembered as a long-time resident of the Northside Guest Home who enjoyed her many years there with her friends. She was a member of St. John’s Anglican Church, North Sydney, for many years.
She is survived by a son David, Halifax, her daughter-in-law Jean Ingraham, North Sydney, two granddaughters, Karin (Donald) White, North Sydney, and Dana (David) Power, Halifax. She was a wonderful great-grandmother to Erica and Allison White. Also surviving are brother William Smith, Hamilton, Ont. and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband William Henry Ingraham, son William James Ingraham, four brothers, Jim, Bob, Nick, and David, two sisters, Janet and Jean.
Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, from St. John’s Anglican Church, North Sydney, with Archdeacon Reg MacDonald officiating. Burial to follow in Lakeside Cemetery.

Isabelle "Belle" MacLean
84, North Sydney
Mrs. Isabelle Barbara “Belle” MacLean, 84, a resident of the Northside Community Guest Home, and formerly of Boularderie, Vict. Co., died Saturday, Nov. 18, 2000, at the Northside General Hospital, North Sydney.
Born in and a life-long resident of Boularderie, she was an active and devoted member of Knox Presbyterian Church at Ross Ferry. She was a life member of Knox A.M.S. and a charter member of the Order of the Easter Starr, Victoria Chapter 19, Baddeck, having received her 50-year pin in 1996. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother and great-grandmother, and will be sadly missed by family and friends. Gaelic being her first tongue, she greatly enjoyed conversing in the language.
She is survived by her daughter Mary MacKenna, Sydney River; sons, Arnold, Port Hastings, Ralph (B. Gail), Dartmouth, Winston “Vince”, California; eight grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband Charlie of 62 years, an infant son, and brother Dan B. MacDonald.
Visitation will be in the Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Knox Presbyterian Church, Ross Ferry, with Rev. Richie Robinson officiating, assisted by Rev. Murdock MacRae and Rev. Donald MacGuire. Burial will be in MacDonald Memorial Cemetery, Boularderie.

Members of the Order of the Eastern Starr will hold a service of remembrance for the late Mrs. MacLean in the Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
James Cecil Clarke
78, North Sydney
Jim Clarke, 78, of 23 Campbell St., North Sydney, and formerly of Guy Street, Glace Bay, passed away peacefully with his loving wife, Irene, at his side on Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2000, at his late residence in the Harbourview Complex, Sydney Mines.
Born in Inverness, he was a son of the late James and Marina (Burke) Clarke.
He was employed with DOSCO/DEVCO in No. 16 New Waterford and No. 26 Glace Bay, until his retirement in the mid-70s.
Jim was very involved in his community and especially his church. A veteran of the Second World War, he was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 19, North Sydney and Branch 40, Glace Bay, serving often with the colour party.
He is survived by his wife, Irene; sons, Arnold (Vangie) and Lloyd, Glace Bay, Neil (Diane) and Blaise (Rebecca), Hamilton, Kenneth (Magi), Burlington, Robert (Sandra), Bridgewater, Kevin, Sydney, and Stanley (Barbara), London, Ont.; daughters, Paulette Cahill, London, and Heather, Glace Bay; sister, Mary (John) Spearing, Glace Bay; grandchildren, Duane, Duight, Dumont, Jay, Jordan, Ross, Chris, Heather, Patrick, Bradley, Tina, Sandra, Kimberly and Kierra; great-grandchildren, William, Sarah, Austin, Christy, Noah James, Nicholas, and Cooper and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife of 40 years, Catherine ‘Belle’ (MacPhee) Clarke of Inverness. brothers, Pal and William. sisters, Lizzie Timmons and Melina Gang.
Visitation will be in Curry Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay, today (Thursday), 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services Friday, 2 p.m. in Curry Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Gordon Hazelwood. Burial will follow in St. Anthony’s Cemetery.

Robert 'Bob' MacDonald
71, North Sydney
Peter Robert ‘Bob’ MacDonald, 71, a resident of Forman Street, North Sydney, died Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2000, at the Northside General Hospital, North Sydney.
Born in Florence, he was the son of the late Peter R. and Elizabeth (Burton) MacDonald.
Bob worked as a driver/operator with the North Sydney Fire Department, where he also served as a volunteer firefighter for a number of years. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, North Sydney.
Surviving are his wife, the former Annie (Annesty) MacDonald; three sons, Blair, North Sydney, Gordon (Alexis), Millville and Kevin (Clare), Newmarket, Ont.; two daughters, Ann Marie (Mrs. Neil MacKinnon), Little Pond and Karen (Mrs. John Stubbert), Cold Brook, N.S.; three brothers, Donnie Collier, Groves Point, Joe Collier, Sydney Mines and Ronald MacDonald, Florence; three sisters, Dellie Dove, Sydney Mines, Lorraine Schofield, Kentville, N.S. and Arthena (Mrs. Gordon Brennan), Florence; eight grandchildren and one great-grandson.
He was predeceased by one daughter-in-law, Linda MacDonald, four brothers, Clifford, Jim, George and Raymond and one sister, Eunice.
Visitation will be held Thursday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral service will be held Friday, 2 p.m. from Calvary Baptist Church in North Sydney with Rev. John Hannem officiating. Burial to follow in Lakeside Cemetery.

Kathleen M. Dolomont
86, North Sydney
Kathleen Maude Dolomont, 86, a resident of the Northside Guest Home, formerly of Big Bras d’Or, died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, at the Northside Guest Home, North Sydney.
Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late Dr. Robert L. And Isabel (Mumford) Murray.
She was a member of St. Matthew Wesley United Church, North Sydney, and was a member of St. John United Church, Big Bras d’Or for many years. She was an honourary member of the North Sydney Senior Citizens and Pensioners Club, honourary member of the Northside Guest Home Ladies Auxiliary and Kathleen was an avid gardener.
Surviving are four daughters, Kathleen ‘Kitty’ (Mrs. Ronald Colpitts), Bedford, Jean Hatcher, Port Hawkesbury, Marjorie (Mrs. John Langford), Port Hawkesbury, Judy (Mrs. George Day), Boulardarie; five sons, Jim (Carolyn), Big Bras d’Or, Donnie (Eileen), North Sydney, Tom (Carol), North Sydney, Robert (Monika), Stillwater Lake, N.S., and Michael (Valeria), Otter Harbour, Victoria County; 21 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Pat (Mrs. Don Murray), England.
She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Dolomont, a sister, Jean and a brother, Donald.
No visitation by request. Funeral service Sunday, 2 p.m. at St. Matthew Wesley United Church, North Sydney with Rev. David Luker and Rev. Donald MacGuire officiating. Burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
