Fraser MacKay
95, North Sydney
Fraser MacKay, 95, a resident of the Northside Guest Home, formerly of 4 Allen Dr., North Sydney, died Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, at the guest home.
Born in Eureka, Pictou County, he was a son of the late John Alexander and Elizabeth (MacNaughton) MacKay.
He was employed with the Canadian National Railways, following retirement worked with North Sydney Marine Railway and Martell’s Construction for many years. He was a member of St. Matthew Wesley United Church, North Sydney.
Surviving are two nephews, Jack MacKay, New Harris, Victoria County and Gilbert (Bea) MacKay, Westville, N.S.; one niece, June (Groves) (Mrs. Andy Gaston), Two Mountains, Quebec.
Fraser was predeceased by his wife, Gertrude (Allen), one son, Donald (Bud), two brothers, Jack and Everett, one sister, Katherine (Kay) Groves.
No visitation by request. Cremation has taken place, a private family service will be held at a later date in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, North Sydney. Burial to take place at Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or St. Matthew Wesley United Church.
Cecilia Andrea
87, North Sydney
Cecilia Andre, 87, a resident of Pleasant Street, North Sydney, died suddenly Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, as a result of a fire at her residence.
Born in Glace Bay, she was a daughter of the late John and Julia (Anthony) Andrea.
She began the first part of her working career as an X-ray technician at St. Martha’s Hospital 1, Antigonish, later she was employed with the Nova Scotia government as secretary, then with the Department of National Defence, Point Edward Naval Base, and employed at the Hamilton Memorial and St. Elizabeth hospitals for five years. At the time of her retirement she was employed with the Department of National Revenue, Customs and Excise.
She was a member of St. Joseph Parish, North Sydney, and at one time was church secretary and librarian. She was extremely active in several roles of the Sodality of the Children of Mary and also the Altar Society.
Surviving are sisters, Eva Lipton, Truro, Regina Andrea, Halifax, and Theresa Wilsack, Stellarton and by a number of nieces and nephews.
Cecilia will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
She was predeceased by sisters, Margaret, Rose, Veronica, Rebecca (Mrs. Alex Crosby), Josephine (Mrs. Michael Sampson), brothers, Michael, Philip, Elias, Louis and George.
Visitation will be held in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time and will be announced at a later date.
Burial will take at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.

Visitation for the late Cecilia Andrea, 87, a resident of Pleasant Street, North Sydney, who passed away Monday at her residence, will take place Thursday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, North Sydney.
Funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Church with Rev. Tom MacNeil officiating. Burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.

Martha E. (Nellie) Strickland
104, North Sydney
Martha Ellen (Nellie) Strickland, age 104, resident of the Northside Guest Home, died Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, at the guest home.
Born in New Haven, Victoria County, she was a daughter of the late John and Rebecca (Sturgess) Rogers.
She was a member of St. Matthew Wesley United Church and in her earlier years was active with the UCW. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Surviving is one daughter, Barbara Phillips, North Sydney; three sons, John MacKay (Jack), Sydney, George William Jr., North Sydney, Ralph (Vera), North Sydney; two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She was predeceased by her husband, George William Strickland, son Gordon, three sisters, Grace, Mary and Fan, three brothers, Tom, Eli and Bill.
Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today (Saturday) in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral services Sunday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. David Luker officiating. Burial to take place at Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.

Infant Shaelynn Parks

Shaelynn Dorothy Ellen Parks, infant daughter of Shaun Parks and Shanny Whittle of Margaret Street, North Sydney, passed away Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000, at the IWK/Grace Hospital, Halifax.
Besides her parents, she is survived by one brother, Shaun Parks Jr. at home; paternal grandparents, John and Linda Parks, North Sydney; maternal grandparents, Gerald Whittle, B.C. and Deborah Hartlen, Sydney Mines; paternal great-grandmother, Marie Parks, Nyanza, and maternal great-grandmother, Dorothy Hartlen, Dartmouth. Also by several aunts, uncles and cousins and great-aunts and uncles.
She was predeceased by great-grandparents, Michael Parks, Isadore and Loretta Matthews, Peter and Maude Whittle, Victor Hartlen; great-aunts, Sheila and Marjorie.
Visitation will be held today (Tuesday), 7-9 p.m. in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Committal service will be held Wednesday, 10 a.m. from the Legion Memorial Chapel, Johnston Road, North Sydney, with Rev. Tom MacNeil officiating. Burial to take place in Holy Cross Cemetery.

James P. Baker

James Patrick Baker, 59, of 31 Napoleon St., North Sydney, died Friday, Dec. 22, 2000, at the Northside General Hospital, North Sydney.
Born in North Sydney, he was a son of Mrs. Stella (Leroy) Baker of North Sydney and of the late James W. Baker. He was employed as a stevedore with Marine Atlantic until his retirement in 1991. He was a member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney, and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Surviving besides his mother are his wife Kay (Matthews) Baker; four sons, James (Donna), North Sydney, Shane (Kim), Scott and Patrick, all at home; daughter, Cheryl (Mrs. John Anthony), North Sydney; four grandchildren, Ashley, Brandon, Kathleen, and Alisha; brother, Tommy (Kathy), Black Rock; four sisters, Joan Sproul, Sydney Mines, Rose (Wayne Fraser), Sydney Mines, Theresa Carol (Jerry), Mira and Bonnie (Leo) Campbell, North Sydney.
He was predeceased by an infant daughter Wanda Rose.
