Raymond Forrest
83, North Sydney
Raymond Francis Forrest, 83, a resident of 39 High St., died Friday, Dec. 22, 2000, at the Northside General Hospital, North Sydney.
Born in Sydney Mines, he was a son of the late Alexander and Theresa (LeBlanc) Forrest. He worked all of his life as a miner at Princess Colliery, Sydney Mines, and later Prince Mine, Pt. Aconi. He was a devoted member of St. Joseph Church, he was a veteran of the Second World War, serving with the Canadian Army, a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 19, North Sydney, and a member of the Knights of Columbus No. 5109 Council.
Surviving are his wife, Theresa (Apestiguy) Forrest; three daughters, Eileen (Mrs. Terry Jesty), Lower Sackville, Linda Forrest, North Sydney and Nancy Forrest, Mississauga; four sons, Brian (Jeannette), Gary (Karen), Wayne (Joanne), all of North Sydney; Eric (Bernadette), Lower Sackville; one brother, John (Lillian), North Sydney; five sisters, Leona Penny, Viola (Dolly) Reynolds, Rita Lomond, all of Sydney Mines, Theresa Mary MacPherson, Millville, Florence (Mrs. Bill Donovan), North Sydney; 21 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Raymond was predeceased by two sons, Ronald and Patrick; one sister Ellen Jane; five brothers, Russell, Steve, Bernie, Jerome and Alexander.
Visitation was held Friday, 7-9 p.m. in W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral Mass 2 p.m. today (Saturday) at St. Joseph Church with Rev. Tom MacNeil officiating. Burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetic Association or to the Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Gerald Jardine
72, North Sydney
Gerald Jardine, 72, a resident of 110 Pierce St., North Sydney, died Monday, Dec. 25, 2000, at the Northside General Hospital, North Sydney.
Born in Sydney Mines, he was a son of the late Andrew and Grace (MacDonald) Jardine.
Gerald owned and operated Jardines Taxi in North Sydney for many years. He was a member of St. Matthew Wesley United Church, a charter member of the SPCA in Cape Breton. He was involved with harness racing, having owned, trained and driven many standardbred horses and he was a member of the Cape Breton Horsemen’s “Hall of Fame.”
Surviving are three sons, Ralph (Jackie), Fergus, Ont., Donald, North Sydney, and Kevin (Lorna), North Sydney; a daughter, Patricia (Mrs. Blaine Gear), Pickering, Ont.; six grandchildren, Allura, Luke, Samuel, Spencer, Emily and Hannah; sister, Allura Andrews, Port Morien; three brothers, Milton (Theresa), Sydney Mines, Elwood, Florence, and Andrew (Leona), Florence.
He was predeceased by his wife Dorothy (MacKinnon) Jardine.
Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today (Wednesday) in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral service 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Matthew Wesley United Church, North Sydney, Rev. David Luker officiating. Burial to take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.

James Lemoine
80, North Sydney
James LeMoine, 80, a resident of Regent Street, North Sydney, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, at the Northside General Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Rose Blanche, Nfld., he was a son of Mrs. Amelia (Burton) LeMoine of the Northside Guest Home, North Sydney, and of the late George LeMoine.
Jim was a fisherman all his life and was a member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church.
Besides his mother he is survived by his wife, Estelle (Annesty) LeMoine; three daughters, Judy (Bernard) Kennedy, Sydney River, Dale (William) Hutt, Louisbourg, and Heather (Fred) Billard, North Sydney; two sons, Craig (Karen) LeMoine, North Sydney, David (Germaine) LeMoine, North Sydney; a step-daughter, Ann (Bob) Maxwell, New Glasgow; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters, Annie (Melvin) Parsons, Ontario, Mae Matchum, Newfoundland, and Adelaide (Stan) Gracie, Sydney Mines; a brother, Rodney (Blanche) LeMoine, North Sydney.
No visitation by request. A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church with Archdeacon Reg MacDonald officiating. Burial to take place at a later date in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
No flowers by request of the family. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of choice.
Charles Burt
82, North Sydney
Charles Burt, 82, of Moulton Avenue, North Sydney, passed away peacefully at the QEII Hospital, Halifax, on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001.
Born in Rose Blanche, Nfld., on May 17, 1918, Charlie was the son of the late Tom and MaryAnn (Anderson) Burt.
Charlie served in the Tank Corp. of the Canadian Army in the Second World War. He worked for the Nova Scotia Department of Highways and the Point Edward Naval Base. For the last number of years, until his retirement in 1983, he worked at the North Sydney Marine Railway.
Charlie was a loving, caring husband. He was a devoted father and grandfather, being very actively involved with his children and grandchildren, from little league to horses. He was an avid sportsman, loving fishing and hunting.
For years Charlie was an active member of the North Sydney Fire Department, Royal Canadian Legion Branch #19, St. John the Baptist Anglican Church Married Couples Association and was an instructor with the Royal Canadian Air Cadets 562 Squadron in North Sydney.
Surviving are his loving wife of 61 years, Emily (Bryan) Burt; daughters, Shirley (Victor) Jenkins, Charlene (Shaun Clarke), both of Balls Creek, and Sandra (Tom) Shinners, North Sydney; sons, Tom (Karen), George’s River, and Brad (Maureen), Sydney Mines; granddaughters, Karen, Tracy, and Stephanie; grandsons, Kenny, Stephen, and Dale; great-grandsons, Ty and Evan; sister, Myrtle (Ernest) Pyke, Ontario. Also by a number of nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by sisters, Leona, Marion, Ethel, and Rose; brothers, Bertrum and Tom.
Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today (Monday) in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Russell J. 'Rookie' Power
49, North Sydney
Russell Joseph Power, 49, a resident of Emerald Street, North Sydney, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in North Sydney, he was the son of the late Edward and Jean (MacDonald) Power.
Russell worked as a pipefitter and was a member of the Plumbers, Pipefitters and Sprinklerfitters Union Local #682. He was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church in North Sydney.
Surviving are four brothers, Robert, George, Eric, and Brian, all of North Sydney; two sisters, Roseanne (Mrs. Bill Bennett), Big Bras d’Or, and Edith Hollingsworth, North Sydney; special friend, Patsy Quirk. Also survived by a number of nieces and nephews; grandnieces and grandnephews.
Predeceased by his parents; six brothers, Earl, Edward Jr., Thomas, James, Terry and Danny; two sisters, Joan and Elizabeth.
There will be a private family visitation. Funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday from St. Joseph Church in North Sydney with Rev. Peter Piva officiating. Cremation to follow with burial to take place at a later date.

Helen M. MacDonald
80, North Sydney
Helen Monica MacDonald, 80, of Maple View Manor, North Sydney, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Alder Point, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Ida (Devoe) Gracie.
She was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, North Sydney. She was also a member of the Senior Citizens and Pensioners Club of Bras d’Or and an honourary member of the Bras d’Or Wildlife Association.
She was the owner and operator of John R. MacDonald’s Grocery Store of Gannon Road for many years.
She is survived by her husband, John R. MacDonald; two sons, Gordon (Bernadette), North Sydney, and William (Bev), Millville; a sister, Helen Young, Florence; three brothers, Joseph, Sydney Mines, Earl, Alder Point, and Stan, Florence. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Roxanne, Ricky and Meaghan.
She was predeceased by sisters, Mary, Ida, Lillian, Adele, Carlotta, and Gladys, brothers, Hubert, Vincent, Theodore, Harold, James, Billy and Charles.
At her request, there will be no visitation. Funeral mass will be held Thursday, Jan. 11 at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Sorrows Church, North Sydney, with Fr. Peter Piva officiating. Cremation to follow. Burial will take place at a later date in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
