Joseph R. Vaudin
66, North Sydney
Joseph Robert Vaudin, 66, a resident of Emerald Street, North Sydney, passed away quietly Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his family.
Born in North Sydney, he was a son of the late William and Amelia (Melbourne) Vaudin-Leyte.
In his early days he was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces serving with the military Black Watch. Later he had been employed with Allen’s Mail Service and Canada Post. For a number of years he worked in Brampton, Ont. for CIL and finally for National Sea Products in North Sydney.
He is survived by one son, Joseph (Della) Vaudin, Florence; one daughter, Debra Vaudin, Spryfield, N.S.; six sisters, Eliza (Gordon) Dawe, Mira, Elsie (Ross) Marsh, Brampton, Ont., Betty Dawe, Sydney, Willena Moore, Thelma (Edwin) Chant and Roberta (George) Gale, all of North Sydney; five brothers, Fred (Violet) Vaudin, Montreal, Rollie (Marguerite) Leyte, Millville, Reg (Elizabeth) Leyte, Belle River, P.E.I., Bill (Karen) Leyte, Eganville, Ont., Gordon (Elaine) Leyte, Brampton, Ont.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Donald Vaudin and James Leyte.
At this request there will be no visitation or funeral service. Cremation has taken place.

John (Jack) Vickers
64, North Sydney
John (Jack) Vickers, 64, a resident of 1 Beacon Cres., North Sydney, and formerly of Southside Boularderie, passed away Friday, Jan. 11, 2001, at the Northside General Hospital, North Sydney.
Born in Boularderie, he was a son of the late Jacob and Katie (MacDonald) Vickers. He was a member of St. Joachim Church, Boularderie.
He is survived by his former wife, Helen MacKenzie; one son, Paul, Calgary; one daughter, Susan, Ontario; eight sisters, Mary Thorne and Eileen (Kenny) MacNeil, both of North Sydney, Judy (Bill) O’Toole, Millville, Patsy (Ronald) Lee, Sydney, Christine Doyle, D’Escousse, Kathleen (Ed) Morgan, Coxheath, Lill (Jess) Mederios and June (Jim) Stanley, both of Florida; one brother, Joseph, Mississauga, and several grandchildren.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Anne Dawe and Eileen Vickers.
Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today (Friday) in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral mass will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. from St. Joachim’s Church, Boularderie with Rev. Bedford Doucette officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Georgina Lawless of North Sydney, who passed away Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, was also survived by a “special daughter” Susan (Kenny) LeBlanc of Bras d’Or.
Christina ‘Christy’ Jane MacDonald
94, North Sydney
Christy Jane MacDonald, 94, a resident of Napolean Street, North Sydney, passed away peacefully Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at home.
Born in Tarbot, Victoria County, March 7, 1906, she was a daughter of the late John D. and Margaret MacDonald.
She was a member of St. Giles Presbyterian Church, North Sydney and also the WMS.
She was a talented weaver of tartan rugs and had them displayed at the Normaway Inn in Margaree and the Gaelic College in St. Ann’s.
Christy Jane is survived by one son, Gordon (Muriel), at home; five grandchildren, Darlene (Wayne) Brown, Laura (George) Jabalee, Cheryl (Lawrence) MacDonald, Jamie (Melissa) and Brian; four great-grandchildren, Lawrence, Malcolm, Christina Jane, Michael, whom she deeply loved.
She was also survived by four nieces and three nephews.
She was predeceased by two brothers, D.J. and Abie.
Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral service will be held Monday, 10 a.m. from St. Giles Presbyterian Church, North Sydney with Rev. Murdock MacRae officiating. Burial to follow in Riverview Cemetery, North River.
Mary Irene Boutilier
81, North Sydney
Mary Irene Boutilier, 81, a resident of 159 Mapleview Dr., North Sydney, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, at the Northside General Hospital, North Sydney.
Born in Alder Point, she was a daughter of the late Alex (The Barb) and Mary (LeBlanc) LeBlanc. She was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church, North Sydney.
Surviving are five sons, Sanford (Diane), North Sydney, Russell (Dorothy), Petawawa, Joseph (Meta), North Sydney, Adrian (Delores), Vancouver, Floyd (Harriet), Bras d’Or; sister, Eunice MacFarland, Alder Point; brother, Chester (Girlie) LeBlanc, Bras d’Or; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She will be deeply missed by her family.
She was predeceased by her husband, Ernest H. Boutilier; daughter, Geraldine; son, Blair; four brothers, Andrew, Joe, Charlie, and Roy; sister, Etta (Mrs. Lloyd Bennett); granddaughter, Kathy, Petawawa; and a great-granddaughter, Melodie.
Visitation from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today and Tuesday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral mass Wednesday 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Church with Peter Piva officiating. Burial to take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Stephen White
41, North Sydney
Stephen White, 41, of MacKay Street, New Waterford, passed away suddenly Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001.
He was the son of Teresa and the late Russell White of Scotchtown.
Stevie was employed with Devco for 18 years and most recently with Colchester Component Precision. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, Lingan. He was a loving husband, father, son, and brother.
Stevie loved to play darts, fish and spend his summers in Mira. He was always there to lend a helping hand to his friends.
He is survived by his wife, Jenny (daughter of Alex and Jim Baldwin); his daughter, Aimee and her friend Scott; and his best buddies Muffin and Missy. He is also survived by his sisters, Russie (George) Mackie, Gardiner Mines, Mary (Gerry) Fougere, River Bourgeois; brothers, Buddy (Marilyn), Scotchtown, Davie (Linda), Ronnie (Patsy), River Ryan; nieces and nephews, Ronnie, Wendy, Nancy, Lisa, Jennifer, Pamela, Crystal, Shauna, Shane, Ronnie, Craig, Chloe; grandniece, Cheryl and grandnephew, Ryan.
Visitation will take place from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, at the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. Funeral mass will be celebrated 2 p.m. in Mount Carmel Church, New Waterford, Fr. Donald McGillivray officiating. Cremation to follow.

Robert Anderson
83, North Sydney
Robert Anderson, 83, a resident of the Northside Community Guest Home in North Sydney, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, at the Northside General Hospital in North Sydney.
Born in Sydney Mines, he was the son of the late Angus J. and Elizabeth (Young) Anderson.
In his earlier years he worked as a coal miner and was an avid bingo and card player. He was a member St. Pius X Church and of the Sydney Mines Senior Citizens and Pensioners Club.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Surviving are five daughters, Elizabeth (Mrs. Dennis Girouard), Mary (Mrs. Tommy Walsh), Margaret (Mrs. Jene Koniar), all of Ontario, Stella Cochrane and Georgina MacNeil, both of Glace Bay; two sons, Robert, British Columbia, and Joseph, Ontario. Also numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren
Predeceased by five sisters, Margaret, Sadie, Lillian, Irene and Alice, two brothers, Angus and Donald.
Visitation Tuesday 7-9 p.m. in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral mass will be held Wednesday 2 p.m. at St. Pius X Church, Sydney Mines, with Rev. Tony MacDonald officiating. Burial to take place at St. Joseph Cemetery, Sydney Mines.
