Beatrice Mary Moore
88, North Sydney
Beatrice Mary Moore, 88, of Regent Street, North Sydney, formerly of Barrington Street, Sydney Mines, passed away Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001, at the Northside Community Guest Home, where she resided.
Born at Sydney Mines, she was the daughter of the late George and Clara (Guest) Moore of Sydney Mines.
She was a member of Trinity Anglican Church, Sydney Mines, and also a member of the Elizabeth Guild Society.
Surviving are two daughters, Colleen Jones, Sydney Mines, and Elizabeth (Joe) Bernon, North Sydney; a son, Robert, Toronto; sister, Neille Roper, Springhill, N.S.; and a brother, Louis (Eilleen) Dove, Sydney Mines. Also surviving are five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Predeceased by her husband, Robert; brothers, William, Richard; and her sister, Clara.
The late Mrs. Moore will have visitation today (Monday) from 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in the Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home, 10 Clyde Ave., Sydney Mines. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Trinity Anglican Church, Sydney Mines, Rev. Brenda Drake-MacDonald officiating. Burial in Brookside Cemetery.

Beatrice Mary Moore, 88, of Regent Street, North Sydney, who passed away Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001, was the daughter of the late George and Clara (Guest) Dove of Sydney Mines.
Visitation for the late Mrs. Moore was held Monday, from 7-9 p.m. and will be held today (Tuesday), 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in the Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home, 10 Clyde Ave., Sydney Mines. Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Trinity Anglican Church, Sydney Mines, Rev. Brenda Drake-MacDonald officiating. Burial in Brookside Cemetery.
Donations may be made to Trinity Anglican Church Building Fund or the Northside Community Guest Home.
Joseph W. Petite
80, North Sydney
Joseph William Petite, 80, of Tobin Avenue, North Sydney, died peacefully Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, at his home.
Born in North Sydney, he was a son of the late Joseph Samuel and Gertrude (Murray) Petite.
Joe was a bricklayer by trade working with the Sydney Steel Corp. for a number of years. He also operated Petite’s Dairy until his retirement. He was a veteran of the Second World War serving overseas with the Cape Breton Highlanders. He was a member of St. Joseph Church and the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 19, North Sydney. He was a former president and very active member of the North Sydney Little League in his earlier years.
Surviving are his daughter, Ann Marie (Jack) MacDonald, Charlottetown, P.E.I.; three sons, Joseph (Norma), North Sydney, Steve (Brenda), Florence, and Greg (Nancy), at home; six grandchildren, Norman, Shane, Brendan, Stephanie, Steven and Kimberley; two sisters, Mabel (Tom) Sainthill, North Sydney, and Ruth (Roy) Demerling, Florida.
He was predeceased by his wife, Mabel McCarthy, brothers, Victor, Jack and Walter, sister, Annie Hartigan.
Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Friday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral mass Saturday 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, North Sydney, with Rev. Tom MacNeil officiating. Burial to take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Hospice Palliative Care of Cape Breton.
Mary M. Kelloff
90, North Sydney
Mary M. Kelloff, 90, a resident of the Northside Community Guest Home and formerly of Prince Street, North Sydney, passed away Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in North Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Mary (Rahey) Kelloff.
In her earlier years, Mary liked to travel and for a short period of time, worked as a receptionist with noted photographer Yousef Karsh. Later, she worked for many years with her sister Martha, brother-in-law, Phil Kasouf, and nephews operating the Maple Bud Confectionery on Commercial Street in North Sydney. Mary was a member of St. Joseph Parish, North Sydney. A devout Christian, she made over 30 pilgrimages to the shrine of St. Anne du Beaupré, Quebec.
She is survived by a niece, Edna Ann Kasouf, North Sydney; nephews, Mike Kasouf, North Sydney, Phil Kasouf, Sydney; a grand-niece, Ashley, Calgary, Alta.; 16 godchildren and many special friends.
She was predeceased by sister, Martha Kasouf; and by a number of sisters and brothers in infancy.
Mary was a very kind and loving person who spent many hours in prayer for people. She was deeply loved and will be sadly missed by her family and many friends.
Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral mass will be held Tuesday 10 a.m. from St. Joseph Church, North Sydney, with Rev. Tom MacNeil officiating. Burial to take place in Holy Cross Cemetery.

Edward E. Price
91, North Sydney
Edward E. Price, 91, a resident of Peppett Street, North Sydney, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Grand Bank, Nfld., he was a son of the late James and Emma (Banfield) Price.
Ed was a ship caulker for most of his life, working with Sydney Engineering and Drydock in Sydney, and later with Marine Railway in North Sydney.
His love of boat building didn’t end with his retirement, as he spent many years building as many as 40 small punts in his backyard for friends and strangers alike.
When he wasn’t busy building boats, Ed would mend fishing nets, tend his flower garden, and was well known on the Northside for selling what seemed to be an endless supply of rhubarb.
He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in North Sydney.
Although he had many interests and hobbies, Ed was a loving husband and family man, and his children and grandchildren were his pride and joy.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Esther (Chapman) Price; five daughters, Sue (Alton) Jardine, Ross Ferry, Melissa (Joseph) MacQuarrie, Gravenhurst, Ont., Winnie (Leonard) Johnston, Keswick, Ont., Sandra (Lloyd) Steeves, Truro, and Trudi (Vince) Penney, North Sydney; three sons, William (Joy), Weston, Ont., David (Louise), Ajax, Ont., and Bobby (Jan), Calgary; sister, Mrs. Gertie Rogers, Ottawa; 23 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a son, Dougie, brother, Bill, four stepbrothers, Wes, Sid, George, Malcolm and a grandson, Russ.
Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Thursday in W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service and celebration of Ed’s life will take place Friday 2 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with Pastor Lloyd Steeves officiating and assisted by Pastor Dan Wilson. Burial at a later date in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.

Elizabeth Thomson (Bell) Winstanley
95, North Sydney
Elizabeth Thomson (Bell) Winstanley, 95, a resident of Miners’ Memorial Manor, Sydney Mines and formerly of North Sydney, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001, at the manor.
Born in Broxburn, Scotland, she was the youngest daughter of the late James Thomson Bell and Marion Kennedy Johnton Bell.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, North Sydney. She resided in Waterloo, Ont., for many years returning to North Sydney in 1996.
She is survived by a son, Alexander Bell Winstanley (Eileen), North Sydney; three daughters, Muriel Porter (Garnet), Chester, N.S., Marion Smith (Earl), Saint John, N.B., Norma Maydell (Wolfgang), Kitchener, Ont.; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Winstanley, sisters, Marion Johnston, North Sydney, Helen Rogers, Halifax, Jean Squarey, North Sydney, brother, Alexander Graham Bell, Clarks Harbour, N.S., a granddaughter, Norma Jean in infancy.
Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today (Thursday) in W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral service Friday at 4 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. John Hannem officiating. Burial to take place at Brookside Cemetery, Sydney Mines at a later date.
