John Aeneas (Enos) Skeard
89, North Sydney
John Aeneas (Enos) Skeard, 89, a longtime resident of North Sydney, passed away Saturday, April 7, 2001 at the Northside General Hospital, North Sydney.
Born in Channel, Nfld., he was a son of the late John and Dina Skeard.
Enos was a mariner for most of his life, having been on the sea since the early age of 18.
He was a marine engineer, spending his career on several ships, such as the SS Arthur Cross and, later in life, aboard CN Marine ferries MV Patrick Morris and MV Frederick Carter before retiring.
He was a veteran of the Second World War, serving with the Merchant Marine.
He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 19 North Sydney and of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney.
He is survived by two sons, Emerson (Corine), Montreal, David, Mount Pearl, Nfld; one daughter, Dianne Begg (Gerald), Halifax; one brother, Louis, Sydney River; three sisters Katie Clark, Carbonnear, Alice Quinn, Stephenville, Nfld., Rhoda Leforme, Port Credit, Ont.; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, Lora (Hillier) Skeard; three brothers, Bill, Jim and Freeman.
Visitation is 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today (Monday) in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney.
A legion service will be held Tuesday 10:30 a.m. from the funeral home chapel.
Burial of ashes to take place at Lakeside Cemetery at a later date.
George Archibald Burt
85, North Sydney
George Archibald Burt, 55, a resident of 21 George St., North Sydney, died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at his home.
Born in North Sydney, he was a son of the late George and Louise (Leyte) Burt.
He was employed as a stevedore with Marine Atlantic in North Sydney.
He was a member of St. Matthew Wesley United Church, North Sydney.
Surviving are his wife, Annie (Malanka) Burt; two brothers, Walter (Winnie), Sydney Mines, Harry (Chris), Sydney Mines; six sisters, Margaret (Mrs. Joe Simpson), Sydney Mines, Carol (Mrs. Glenn Boutilier), North Sydney, Edith (Mrs. Allister MacIsaac), North Sydney, Mary Lou (Roddie MacIsaac), North Sydney, Lynn (Kevin), North Sydney, Cathy (Mrs. Art Rose), Ontario; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
No visitation by request.
A funeral service to be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. from St. Matthew Wesley United Church with Rev. David Luker officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.

James Norman Taylor
83, North Sydney
James Norman Taylor, 83, a resident of Spruce Street, North Sydney, died Saturday, April 14, 2001, at the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born in Grand Bruit, Nfld., he was the son of the late John and Harriet (Billard) Taylor.
He went to work at an early age as a fisherman and later as a seaman on the Great Lake boats, until his retirement.
He served with the Merchant Marine during the Second World War.
He was a member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney.
Surviving is a daughter, Cassie (Lloyd) Stamper, Westville, N.S.; three grandchildren, Patrick, Heather and Jeffrey; two brothers, Clifford (Margaret), North Sydney, and Wilfred (Agatha), Corner Brook, Nfld.; and a sister, Hazel (Eldred) Crant, Corner Brook.
He was predeceased by his wife, Christina (Clarke) Taylor; three brothers, William, John and Gilbert; and a sister, Melida.
Visitation today (Monday) from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney.
Funeral service Tuesday 3 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Church with Archdeacon Reg MacDonald officiating.
Burial to take place at Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or St. John the Baptist Church.
William Kenneth MacLeod
83, North Sydney
William Kenneth MacLeod, 83, a resident of Brook Street Ext., North Sydney, and formerly of Englishtown, passed away Thursday, April 19, 2001, at the Northside General Hospital, North Sydney.
Born in North Shore, Victoria County, he was a son of the late Angus and Diana (Roberts) MacLeod.
William was a carpenter by trade and worked in the U.S. for many years, as well as with N.S. Power at the Wreck Cove generating station.
He was a member of St. Mark’s Presbyterian Church, Englishtown, a member of the Loyal Orange Lodge and the Royal Black Preceptory.
He is survived by a daughter, Dolly Chapman (Fred), Englishtown; three sons, Robert (Ruth), North Sydney, Angus (Lee), Rhode Island, Freeman, Massachusetts; brother, Dan, California; sister, Margaret Shaw, North Sydney; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife the former Mary MacAskill, a daughter in infancy, and a sister Effie Ann.
Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Friday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney.
Funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. from St. Mark’s Presbyterian Church, Englishtown, with Rev. Lloyd Murdock officiating.
Burial in Bayview Cemetery, Englishtown.
