Kathleen Sylvia Murchison
81, Westmount
Kathleen Sylvia Murchison, Strathacona Street, Westmount, passed away at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, on Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001.
Born in Trenton, N.S., she was a daughter of the late Jacob and Elizabeth (Polly) Trenholm.
Kathleen was a member of St. Andrew’s United Church and the Ladies Auxiliary, Branch 12.
Surviving are her special friend, Harry; daughters, Irene (Don) MacNeil and Donna Crawley, both of Westmount; sons, Robert, New Glasgow, and Earl (Peggy), Edwardsville; sister, Marion MacDonald, Westmount; brother, Jim MacNeil, Reserve; and six grandchildren, Donnie, Kathy, Melissa, Scott, Krystle and Garrett.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert in 1975 and a brother, Earl.
Visitation will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel Friday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Knox United Church, Blackett’s Lake Saturday, 11 a.m. with Rev. Stephen Mills officiating. Interment in Hardwood Hill Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Const. Aubrey James Thebault
49, Westmount
Const. Aubrey James Thebault, 49, of 121 Braemar Dr., Westmount, passed away at home, Friday, Feb. 16, 2001.
Born in Sydney Mines, he was the son of the late Michael and Florence (Fraser) Thebault.
He was a member of the Holy Rosary Parish, Westmount. Aubrey joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in 1972. He was stationed in Alberta, Newfoundland and Nova Scotia. He was most recently stationed in Sydney.
Well known to the community, Aubrey was an avid outdoorsman and sports enthusiast. He was the area co-ordinator of the Cape Breton Search and Rescue. Aubrey played organized hockey and baseball and was involved in numerous community activities including the Cape Breton minor hockey and baseball associations.
He is survived by his loving wife, Glenna (Stubbert) Thebault and their four sons, Kyle (RMC), Kingston, Michael, (Dalhousie), Halifax, Ryan and David, at home.
Visitation will be held at the G.R. Francis & Son Funeral Home, Sydney Mines, today (Saturday) 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass and regimental service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in Holy Rosary Church, Westmount, Rev. Dan McInnis officiating. Burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Sydney Mines.
Flowers gratefully accepted, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Georgina (Englehutt) Penny
76, Westmount
Georgina (Englehutt) Penny, 76, formerly of Westmount, passed away peacefully at the palliative care unit, QE II Hospital, Halifax, Friday, April 6, 2001.
Born in Wreck Cove, Victoria County, she was the daughter of the late Angus and Tena (MacDonald) Englehutt.
Georgina served in the RCAF during the Second World War, as a clerk in western and central Canada. Upon returning to Sydney, she worked for the post office and then operated a hairdressing business from her home for many years.
Georgina was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and a tireless volunteer in her community. She was a life member and past-president of Westmount United Church UCW and a former treasurer of the Westmount-Leitches Creek pastoral charge. She received the Citizen of the Year Award from District 8 in 1989, in recognition of her community service. Georgina recently retired as president of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Auxiliary and was the auxiliary representative on the hospital foundation board.
She was the editor of the Cape Breton Chapter of the Ostomy Association’s newsletter for 20 years and served as the UOA provincial representative for the Atlantic provinces for four years. Georgina was an officer and member of three seniors groups.
Her favourite pastimes included gardening, a game of cards, crafts, travelling and organizing get-togethers with family and friends.
She is survived by her sister, Sadie Aitken, Westmount; son, William (Carolyn), London, Ont.; daughters, Carol (Lorne MacLean), Toronto, and Sandra (Gordon Grant), Fall River; six grandchildren, Kate, Sam and Colin Penny, Andrew MacLean and Alex and Stewart Grant; niece, Barbara Allen; and nephews, Wayne and Roger Aitken.
She was predeceased by her husband, Sam, in 1985, and sister, Katherine (MacDonald) in 1998.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel.
A memorial service will be held at Westmount United Church, Wednesday, April 11 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Bernice Spracklin officiating. A reception will follow in the church hall.
In memory of Georgina, donations may be made to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of choice.
Alice Georgina Rudderham
87, Westmount
Alice Georgina Rudderham, formerly of Westmount, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 14, 2001, at the Guest Home in Sarnia, Ont.
Born in Ingonish, she was the daughter of the late Angus and Effie Ann MacIsaac (Canary).
Alice is survived by her sister, Claire Thibeault, Maine; daughters, Beverly (Charles) Thompson, Michigan, Deanna (Clyde) Hemeon, Shelburne; stepson, Allan (Mary), Edwardsville; sons, Chipman (Isable), Edwardsville, Herman (Mary), Balls Creek, Dennis, Edwardsville; 34 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Alice was predeceased by her husband Herman, stepdaughter, Mable MacSween and stepson, Maxwell.
Cremation and burial has taken place in Sarnia, Ont.
Pauline Evelyn Peters
88, Westmount
Pauline Evelyn Peters, 88, of Applecross Drive, Westmount, passed away at Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, Friday, Oct. 10, 2003. Born in Sydney, she was a daughter of the late Harris and Maude (Andrews) Palmer. She was a member of St. John’s Anglican Parish, Mira Road. She was a well-known musician and was organist at St. John’s Church for a number of years. She is survived by three daughters, Carmelita (Wen) Daisley, Halifax, Mary Lee (Brad) MacLeod, Sydney, and Larkell (Tom) Bradley, Ontario; four sons, Michael (Florence) MacDonald, Sydney, Edward (Georgie) MacDonald, Westmount, with whom she resided, John Peters, Oshawa, and Barry Peters, Toronto; 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Also surviving are three sisters, Irene Young, Ontario, Shirley MacLean, Sydney, and Geraldine Steeves, Sydney; and brother, Charlie (Linda) Palmer, Sydney. Pauline was predeceased by her first husband, Allan MacDonald, second husband, John Peters, four sisters, Larkell, lda, Dena and Hazel and brother, Harris (Chipper). Visitation will be held in Sydney Memorial Chapel, Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service in St. John’s Anglican Church, Tuesday at 1 p.m. with Rev. Glen Kent officiating. Interment in Hardwood Hill Cemetery.
