Timothy Maxwell Robinson
62, Sydney Mines
Timothy Maxwell Robinson, 62, passed away suddenly at his home on Forrest Street, Sydney Mines, Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001.
Born in North Sydney on July 3, 1938, Timothy was the son of the late Frank and Alice Robinson (nee Dearing).
He was a member of the United Church of Canada.
Timothy was a serving member of the Canadian Armed Forces for 21 years, as a member of the Canadian Guards and the Royal Canadian Regiment.
Timothy is survived by his wife, Marguerite (nee Scullen); four daughters, Diann, Denise, Laura and Tanya, all of Sydney Mines; one son, Timothy, CFB Petawawa, Ont. He was a proud grandfather of 12 grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers, Thomas Robinson, Sydney Mines, and Richard Robinson, North Sydney; several half- brothers and half-sisters.
Visitation will be held, today (Thursday), 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the G.R. Francis and Son Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. The funeral service will be held in G.R. Francis and Son Funeral Home, Friday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Allison MacLean officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or a charity of choice.
William Delbert MacLean
64, Sydney Mines
William Delbert MacLean, 64, of Crescent Street, Sydney Mines, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney Mines, he was the son of the late John William and Kathleen (MacLennan) MacLean.
He was a member of Wilson United Church, Florence. He was employed as a miner at No. 3 Colliery. He sailed the Great Lakes on the Capt. C.D. Seacord and in later years was employed as a carpenter.
He is survived by his children, Kathy (Mrs. Carmem Hood), Point Aconi, Sheldon (Shari), Toronto, Sherry, Halifax, Lynn (Tommy), Sydney Mines, Laurie (Mrs. Robert Musgrave), Sydney Mines, Sandra (Mrs. Walter Best), North Sydney, Barbara (Mrs. Wayne Morris), New Glasgow, Carol Ann Brooks, Whitney Pier, Darrell (Dawn), North Sydney, Dwayne, Toronto; 19 grandchildren and a great-grandson, Jeremy, Ontario. Also surviving is his former wife, Doris Butts, Florence; sisters, Frances Currie, New Waterford, and Lillian Matthews, North Sydney; brothers, Alex, John Sheldon (Linda), Hubert, Stuart and Joey and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Velvet Juanita and his sister, Kathleen.
Cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends today (Saturday) from 7-9 p.m. in G.R. Francis and Son Funeral Home, Sydney Mines.

Francis (Bubbsie) MacIntosh
72, Sydney Mines
Francis MacIntosh, 72, of MacCormick Terrace, Sydney Mines, died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2001, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Sydney Mines, he was the son of the late Mary MacIntosh.
He was member of Immaculate Conception Parish, Sydney Mines. He was employed at Princess Colliery and later at Layton’s Lumber. Francis was a member of Santa Maria Council 2024, Knights of Columbus, and honorary member of the Sydney Mines Volunteer Fire Department and an avid fisherman and hunter.
He is survived by his son, Lloyd, North Sydney; his sister, Clara MacPherson, Sydney Mines; nephews, John, Donald, and Jimmy MacPherson; and his nieces, Anne Marie Edmunds, Florence Wardrope and Mary Lou Andrea.
Visitation today (Monday) from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in G.R. Francis and Son Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. The funeral will take place on Tuesday at 10 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, Rev. Gerald Dunphy officiating. Burial in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

Norman Percy King
78, Sydney Mines
Norman (Percy) King, 78, of 8 Helene St., Sydney Mines, died Friday, Feb. 2, 2001, at the Northside General Hospital, North Sydney, after a brief illness.
Born at Sydney Mines, he was the son of the late Annie (Bragg) Riddle.
He was a veteran of the Second World War. For a time he was employed as a chef at Grand Narrows on the gypsum boats, which enabled him to sail the world over. He also sailed on fishing draggers, and for a time he travelled with the Bill Lynch Shows. In the last number of years he became a renowned entrepreneur, selling fruit, vegetables and flowers from his stand on Half-Way Road, Sydney Mines.
He was an active member of the Golden K Club, the Sydney Mines Senior Citizens Club, the Memory Lane Band, and enjoyed volunteering with Meals on Wheels. Percy loved meeting old and new friends, sharing stories, and dancing at the Senior Citizens Club.
He is survived by his son, Hubert (Victoria), Edmonton, Alta.; daughter, Judy (Russell) Rector, Fredericton, N.B.; three grandchildren; sisters, Peg Fiefield, Sackville, N.S., Josephine Aubrey, Sydney Mines, Margaret (Don) Young, with whom he resided, Elizabeth (Ron) Weaver, Dartmouth, Phyllis (Fred) Hillier, George’s River; brothers, Charles (Shirley), New Hamburge, Ont., Ernie (Olive), Kitchener, Ont.; a number of nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. ‘Unkie’ will be greatly missed by his special angels.
He was predeceased by brothers, Harry and Chesley and by two brothers in infancy.
Visitation will be in the Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home today from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Tuesday in Carman United Church at 3 p.m. with Rev. Karen Ralph officiating. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the IWK-Grace Hospital, Halifax, or to a charity of choice.
Stuart Vickers
47, Sydney Mines
Stuart Vickers, 47, a husband, a father, a son, a fisherman, a mountain man, an artist, a carpenter, a gourmet chef, a spiritual leader and our Da!
On Sunday, Feb. 4, 2001, he embarked on THE LAST GREAT ADVENTURE.
He is celebrated by his wife, Elizabeth (Lomond), daughters Patricia Lynn and Dawn (Dinker), mother and father, Jean and Stan, brothers, Bruce, Eric and Gary, sister, Lynn and their families. As well as the sisters and brothers of Elizabeth and their families, his many friends and his doggies Maggie and Mollie. We love you. Carpe’ Deium.
A memorial service will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. in Carman United Church with Rev. Karen Ralph officiating. Memorials may be made to the Kidney Foundation or the Heart and Lung Foundation.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home.
John Frederick Gear Jr.
53, Sydney Mines
Mr. John Frederick Gear Jr., 53, of 40 Beach St., Sydney Mines, died Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, at the Northside General Hospital, North Sydney.
Born at Florence, he was the son of John F. Gear Sr. and the late Ella Grace (Tremblett) Gear.
He was an adherent of Wilson United Church, Florence.
He is survived by his daughter, Doris Grace Gear, North Sydney; sisters, Shirley (Norbert) Murphy, Margaree, Doris Clarkson, Florence, Marilyn (Rick) Lochan, Calgary; brothers, Doug (Theresa) Gear, and Percy Gear, both of Calgary. He is also survived and loved by a number of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be in the Fillmore and Funeral Home on Sunday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Allan Hallett officiating. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery.
