Melvin MacLean
81, Baddeck
Melvin MacLean, age 81, of Baddeck, passed away on Tuesday, March 13, 2001, at the Alderwood Rest Home.
Born in Upper Baddeck, he was the son of the late Philip and Hughena (MacKay) MacLean.
He was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church, Baddeck and before his retirement, Melvin was a carpenter. He was also a member of St. Marks Lodge 35 Baddeck and will be remembered as a great storyteller.
He is survived by brothers, D.J. MacLean, Guysborough, and Phillie MacLean, Baddeck; sisters, Rita MacNeil, Newmarket, Ont., Sarah MacLeod, Riverview, N.B., and Martha MacDonald, Baddeck.
He was predeceased by his wife, the former Katherine Morrison, sisters, Christene and Sadie and brother, Johnny.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 15 from 3-8 p.m. at MacAskill Funeral Home. The funeral will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Knox Presbyterian Church with Rev. Lloyd Murdock officiating. Burial will be in St. Andrews Cemetery. Donations can be made to a charity of choice.
Arrangements are under the direction of MacAskill Funeral Home, Baddeck.
Harry MacLean
65, Baddeck
Harry MacLean, 65, of Baddeck, Victoria County, died March 23, 2001 at Victoria County Memorial Hospital.
Born in Aberdeen, Inverness County, he was the son of Angus and Amy (Leake) MacLean.
He was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church and a friend to all. He will always be lovingly remembered by his family and friends.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews; sisters, Sandra and Mary, Toronto.
He was predeceased by his parents; his sister, Katherine (Kate); brothers, Dan Angus, Alex, Gordon, Grant, William (Billy).
Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 today, March 26 at MacAskill Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 27, 2001 at Knox Presbyterian Church with Mrs. Shirley Murdock officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
Family flowers only; donations to any charity.

Rebecca Gedutis
Baddeck Bay
Rebecca Gedutis, 84, of Baddeck Bay, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2000, at the Victoria County Memorial Hospital.
Born in New Brunswick, she was the daughter of the late Annie Mae and Mr. Munroe.
In her early years Rebecca taught in New Brunswick schools relocating in the United States in her early 20’s and working there until her retirement in 1986.
She was predeceased by her husband and son, Alexander.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at MacAskill Funeral Home, Saturday, Oct. 28 from 1-3 p.m. at which time there will be a service with Rev. Linda Schenzinger officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Greenwood Church.
Murray MacDonald
78, Baddeck
Murray MacDonald, 78, of Baddeck, N.S., died Thursday, April 5, 2001, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in West Middle River, he was the son of the late William and Annie (MacEachern) MacDonald.
Murray worked in Toronto, Ont. for 20 years; moved back to Baddeck in 1975, where he was employed at Alderwood Rest Home until retirement at aged 65.
He is survived by his wife, the former Margaret MacRae; son, John (Nancy), Oshawa, Ont.; daughter, Sheila, Baddeck; brother, William (Murdena), Toronto, Ont.; sisters, Bessie Martell, North Sydney, Catherine Harvey, Baddeck, Phoebe (Dave) MacQuarrie, Baddeck; two grandchildren, Ashlea and Kati Marie.
Predeceased by brother, Donald, Toronto, Ont.
The body is resting at MacAskill Funeral Home with visitation Sunday, April 8 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A private family service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in MacAskill Funeral Home with Rev. Louis Ihasz officiating. Burial will be in Middle River Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Diabetic Association.
Alexander Dan MacKinnon
87, Baddeck
Alexander Dan MacKinnon, 87, a resident of the Alderwood Guest Home, Baddeck, and formerly of Bay St. Lawrence, Victoria County, died Tuesday, April 10, 2001, at the Victoria County Memorial Hospital, Baddeck.
Born in Black Point, Victoria County, he was the son of the late Peter and Marcella (Fraser) MacKinnon.
He was an adherent of the United Church of Canada and was a fisherman for most of his life.
He is survived by his wife, Katie Mae, also a resident of the Alderwood Guest Home, Baddeck; eight daughters, Catherine (Danny) MacKinnon, Baddeck, Cassie (Stuart) Burton, Port Hawkesbury, Florence (Brian) Sinclair, Bay St. Lawrence, Wilma (Martin) Cummings, Pictou, Dolly (Norman) Morrison, Aspy Bay, Janet (Frank) MacLennan, Sadie (Kenneth) MacLennan, both of Meat Cove, Joyce (Jimmy) Donovan, Ingonish; four sons, Raymond (Wanda), Smelt Brook, Albert (Heather), Allan Dan ‘Yok’ (Carolyn), both of Bay St. Lawrence, Danny, at home; three sisters, Marcella (William) Buchanan and Florence (William) Bonner, both of Bay St. Lawrence, Helen Margaret (Paul) MacEachern, Mira; brothers, Simon (Cassie) MacLellan, Bay St. Lawrence, Allan Joseph (Mary) MacKinnon, Coxheath, Alex (Dolly) MacKinnon, Neil’s Harbour; 39 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by four children, 12 sisters and one brother.
By personal request there will be no visitation or service. Spring committal will be held in Bay St. Lawrence, under the direction of Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home.
Donald Murdock Campbell
64, Baddeck
Donald Murdock Campbell, 64, of Baddeck, died Tuesday, April 17, 2001, in Alderwood Rest Home.
Born in Baddeck, Victoria County, he was a son of Hannah (MacLennan) Campbell and the late Daniel Campbell.
He was an adherent of Gospel Hall, Baddeck. He worked as a woodsman in his earlier years and then for the Department of Transportation until his retirement.
He is survived by his son, Laurens Daniel Campbell (Doris), Kelowna, B.C.; daughter, Lauretta Anne (Mrs. Gary Misner), Hamilton, Ont.; brothers, Henry Campbell, Pembroke, Ont.; Harold Campbell, Blues Mills; sisters, Mae Carmichael, Midland, Ont.; Sharon (Mrs. Michael Palmer), Novar, Ont.; four grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his brother, Robert.
The body is resting in MacAskill’s Funeral Home with visitation Thursday, April 19 from 2-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 20 in Gospel Hall, Baddeck with Fred Bartlett officiating. Burial in Harbourview Cemetery.
