Marion E. MacKillop, 87, of Baddeck Bay, died Friday, Sept. 8, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Baddeck, she was the daughter of the late Dan Murdock and Bessie (MacLeod) MacDonald.
She is survived by one son, Dr. James MacKillop (Barb), Sydney; two daughters, Mrs. Norma Scott (Norman), Halifax, Mrs. Betty Beaton (Donnell), Baddeck; three sisters, Mrs. Marguerite Cheverie, Mrs. Kenene MacRae and Mrs. Mary Oakley; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Norman in 1981 and a brother, Alexander MacDonald.
The body is resting at MacAskill Funeral Home with visiting hours Sunday, Sept. 10, 2000 from 2-5 p.m. The funeral will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in Ephriam Scott Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Lloyd Murdock officiating. Burial will be in Harbourview Cemetery.
Family flowers only by request, donations may be made to a charity of choice.

97, Baddeck
Mary Alice (Ferguson) Campbell, passed away in her 97th year in Alderwood Rest Home, Baddeck, on Thursday, April 19, 2001.
Born in Rear Big Hill, she was the daughter of the late Roderick and Caroline (Merritt) Ferguson.
Surviving are son, Carl; daughters, Christine Ross, Marilyn Cameron, all of Baddeck, Sadie Cann (Roger), Wolfville; 20 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by husband, John Eddy, son, Roy, brothers, Angus, William and Donald, sister, Christine, grandson, Roderick Cameron, great-granddaughter, Tracey Drinnan, sons-in-law, William Ross and Reid Cameron.
She was a member of Greenwood United Church, Jean Scott Unit of UCW and for many years a member of Greenwood Choir.
Visitation in MacAskill’s Funeral Home, Monday, April 23 from 2-9 p.m. Funeral in Greenwood United Church, 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, Linda Scherzinger officiating.

Mary Alice (Ferguson) Campbell, who passed away in her 97th year in Alderwood Rest Home, Baddeck, Thursday, April 19, 2001, is survived by son, Carl and his wife, Mora.
Doris Evangeline Asaph
83, Baddeck
Doris Evangeline Asaph, 83, Baddeck, passed away suddenly Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Canso, she was the daughter of Daniel Martin and Evangeline (DeCoste) Ryan.
Doris lived a very full and active life, well-known by all, member of St. Michael’s Parish, the CWL and Senior Citizens Club. Over the years she was involved in drama, with a flair for comedy, performing at numerous community events. She was an avid fisherwoman enjoying this sport to the day of her death, and could often be found on the river bank with her fishing buddy and faithful friend, Linda Wallace.
She as the ‘core’ of the family will be sadly missed by her husband of more than 60 years, Alfred Asaph; daughters, Eileen Kotlar, Valerie MacKenzie, Marsha Parsons, Baddeck, Patricia Cann, North Sydney; sons, Leo and John P., Baddeck; Donnie, Surrey, B.C., Carly, Calgary, Alta., Ronnie, Chicago, IlI., Raymond, Riverview, N.B., Alfred ‘Sonny’, Burlington, Ont.; brother, Donald, Baddeck; 22 grandchildren, of whom she was very proud and known to them as ‘Nanny’; daughters-in-law, Mona, Sylvia, Denise, Gloria, Donna and Sylvia; sons-in-law, John MacKenzie, John Parsons; Bill Cann and many friends are left to mourn.
Predeceased by her brothers, Tom and Pat and sisters, Irene and Freda.
Visitation will be in MacAskill Funeral Home, today from 7-9 p.m. and Friday, Jan. 26, from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Funeral service Saturday, Jan. 27, at 11 a.m. in St. Michael’s Parish, Baddeck. Interment in Harbour View Cemetery, South Haven, Rev. Gerald Currie officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association and Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of Canada.

Bessie (Amos) Simpson
84, Baddeck
Bessie (Amos) Simpson, 84, of Alderwood Rest Home, Baddeck, N.S. died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2000.
Born in Great Shemogue, N.B., she was the daughter of the late Stephen and Nellie (Johnson) Amos.
She was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church, Baddeck.
She grew up on Murray Road, N.B. As a young wife and mother, she helped her husband (the late Charles Simpson), run a farm on Murray Road and in 1962 moved to Baddeck. She ran the Rest-A-While Tourist Home before retiring to her smaller home on the Shore Road.
She is survived by her children, Debbie (Mrs. William Burt), Englishtown; two sons, Vance, Smiths Cove, and Kevin and his wife Delina, Middle River; three grandchildren, Paul, Lisa and Danielle; four great-grandchildren, Jacob, Bailey, Jillian and Christopher.
She was predeceased by one son, Stephen John at birth.
The body is resting at MacAskill’s Funeral Home, Baddeck, 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27. Funeral service will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church, Baddeck, Thursday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Lloyd Murdock officiating. Private burial will be in Fernwood Cemetery, Port Eglin, N.B. at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Victoria County Hospital Foundation.
Mildred Isabel Kelly
82, Baddeck
Mildred Isabel Kelly, 82, Shore Road, Baddeck, died Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, at the Victoria County Memorial Hospital.
Born in Moncton, N.B., she was a daughter of the late Henry and Catherine (Hannington) MacQuarrie. She was a member of the Greenwood United Church, Baddeck. Mildred enjoyed meeting the public during her years at the White Store, Baddeck, and welcoming tourists to her home. She was a life member of the United Church Women, a long-time member of the Alexander Graham Bell Club and an avid bridge player. She spent a number of years with her young family in Northern Quebec.
She is survived by her husband Windsor Kelly; son, Terry and wife Rachel; daughter, Jackie and husband Rowland; brothers, Earl, Ronald, Ivan and companion Rosemary; sisters, Beulah, Eileen and husband Gesner, Kaye and husband Ralph and Thelma; grandchildren, Katie, Kimberley, Lori, numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by brother John and a sister Gladys.
Cremation has taken place. Funeral service 2 p.m. today in Greenwood United Church, Rev. David Lutes officiating. Burial in Elmwood Cemetery, Moncton, N.B.

Joseph (Joe) Edward Berrigan
41, Baddeck
Joseph Edward (Joe) Berrigan, 41, of Baddeck, formerly of Antigonish Harbour, died suddenly Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, as the result of a boating accident in Baddeck.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Edward and Kay (MacDougall) Berrigan.
He was a graduate of Dr. John Hugh Gillis Regional High School, Antigonish and attended Acadia University, studying in the field of recreation. He was an avid outdoorsman. While getting his education he taught swimming and was a goaltender for the Antigonish Bulldogs. He worked in Alberta and British Columbia. He returned to the Antigonish area in 1988 and took up commercial fishing. He was a spiritual man and a proud Christian. Having recently moved to Baddeck, he immediately felt at peace with the beauty and serenity of the area. He often remarked that he could not ask for anything more than his love for Linda, his children and the beauty of the Bras d’Or Lakes which he explored daily on his vessel “The Kingdom Seekers.”
Surviving are his fiancee and partner, Linda Dove, Baddeck; daughter, Lisa and son, Tyson, Edmonton; sister, Anne Mary Berrigan, Antigonish Harbour; Linda’s sons, Ambrose Jessome, Halifax and William Jessome, Alberta; nephew, Scott MacKenzie, Edmonton; uncles and aunts, John Bernard and Mary Margaret MacDougall, Lakevale, Christine MacDougall, Antigonish, Harriet MacDougall, Arisaig and Joe MacDonell, Herring Cove; many cousins and special friends, Lenny and Sheila Kelly, Antigonish.
He was predeceased by his parents, uncles and aunts, Marie and Colin Boyd, Dr. Daniel and Theresa MacDougall, Donald MacDougall and Anne MacDonell.
Visitation today (Tuesday) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College St., Antigonish.
The family requests a scent free environment. Funeral will be held Wednesday, 11 a.m. in St. Columba Church, Lakevale with Rev. Gilles LeBlanc officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery. Reception to follow in the Lakevale Community Centre.
He will be sadly missed by family and friends.
