Nora Maurina Fazekas
66, Baddeck
Nora Maurina Fazekas (Currie), 66, of Baddeck, N.S., died Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Reserve Mines, she was the daughter of the late Angus and Margaret (MacIntosh) Currie.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. Peter’s/St. John’s Anglican Church, Baddeck.
She is survived by one son, Tommy (Debbi) Fazekas, Middle River; four daughters, Charalene (John) Walsh, Ottawa, Maurina (Marco) Duret, New Brunswick, Debbie (Lorne) MacLean, Middle River and Patsy (Michael) Nicholson, Sackville; three sisters, Claire, Harriet and Benny; seven grandchildren, Shauna, Stephen, Gregory, Christopher, Michael, Garret and Emma.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Mary and Catherine; a brother, Johnny.
The family has requested no visitation or service. A private family burial will take place at a later date.

William Joseph ‘Billy’ Dauphney
69, Baddeck
William Joseph ‘Billy’ Dauphney, 69, of Baddeck, died Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, at the Victoria County Memorial Hospital.
Born in North Shore, Victoria County, he was a son of the late John and Adeline (LeBeau) Dauphney.
He was a member of Greenwood United Church, Baddeck. Billy was self-employed as a fisherman and construction worker in the North Shore area. Retiring due to health reasons in 1990, and moved to Baddeck in 1992. Billy loved to visit the hospital and neighbours.
He will be sadly missed by his family and many friends.
He is survived by his wife the former Heather MacEachern; son, William James Dauphney, daughter, Vina Lynn Dauphney, both of Baddeck; brothers, George and his wife Hannah, Ontario, John and his wife Donna, British Columbia; sisters, Ann (Mrs. Bob Fraser), Alberta, Evelyn (Mrs. Gerald Landry), British Columbia, and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother, David.
Visitation was held 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, in MacAskill Funeral Home, Baddeck. Funeral 2 p.m. today (Friday) in St. Ann’s Bay United Church, Rev. Laurie MacCuish officiating. Burial in MacDonald Memorial Cemetery.
Family flowers only by request. Donations to Victoria County Memorial Hospital, Greenwood United Church or charity of one’s choice.
Anna Matheson
88, Baddeck
Anna Matheson, 88, of Baddeck, died Sunday, Nov. 19, 2000, at Alderwood Rest Home.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Bessie (Beaton) Young.
She is survived by one son, Douglas and his wife, Diane, Kingston, Ont.; several nieces and nephews; four grandchildren, Ian (Elizabeth) Matheson, Ottawa, David Matheson, Toronto, Norma (Wayne) Greene, Shubenacadie, Dougie (Flossie) Fletcher, Baddeck and eight great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Norman, daughter, Evelyn Fletcher, brother, Walter Young and sisters, Edna Osborne, and Ethel Young.
The body is resting at MacAskill Funeral Home, today (Tuesday), 7-9 p.m. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter-St. John Anglican Church, Baddeck with the Rev. Brenda Drake-MacDonald officiating. Burial will be in Goose Cove Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the Alderwood Rest Home or to a charity of one’s choice.
Jessie Maloney
82, Baddeck
Jessie Maloney, 82, of Baddeck, Victoria County, N.S., died Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2000, in the Victoria County Memorial Hospital, Baddeck.
Born in 1918 in Middle Harbour, Victoria County, she was the daughter of the late Capt. Angus and Effie Kate (Petrie) Burton.
She was a nurse’s aide.
She is survived by two sons, Angus Maloney, Dartmouth and Jackie Maloney, Margaree Valley; two daughters, Lena Fitzgerald, North Sydney and Shirley Grant, Boularderie; one brother, Dan Burton, Sydney and long time companion, Don Nicholson, Sydney; 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Dave Maloney, son, Brian Maloney, grandson, Collis Fitzgerald, two brothers, Wilson and George, Toronto, five sisters, Lida Smith, Big Harbor, Jennie MacLeod, Cape North, Tena, Ontario and Dolly and Rita, both of Massachusetts.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 24, 2000 at Aspy Bay United Church with Rev. Rose-Hannah Gaskin officiating. Burial will be in Aspy Bay Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cancer Society.

Alena MacRae
88, Baddeck
Alena MacRae, 88, of Baddeck, died peacefully Monday, Nov. 27, 2000, at Alderwood Guest Home.
Born in Marble Mountain, she was the daughter of the late Rod and Matillda (MacMillan) MacDonald.
She was a member of Farquharson Memorial Presbyterian Church, Middle River, A.M.S. Middle River Historical Society.
Alena taught for many years throughout Inverness and Victoria counties, she will be fondly remembered by her many students.
Retired to Middle River, she was renowned for her biblical studies and her quick wit.
She is survived by one sister, Glennie MacMillan, Sydney; two nephews, Keith MacMillan (Aggie), Westmount, and Rev. Glen MacDonald (Chris), Thorburn, Pictou County; five nieces and nephews, Peter, Robert, Stephen, Sonya and Erin.
She was predeceased by her husbands, John Dougal MacIsaac and Alex MacRae, brother, Peter Rod and two siblings in infancy.
The body is resting at MacAskill Funeral Home with visitation today (Tuesday), Nov. 28, from 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, in Farquharson Memorial Presbyterian Church with Rev. Ken Allen and Rev. Lorne MacLeod officiating. Burial will be in Middle River Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alderwood Rest Home or Fahquharson Memorial Presbyterian Church.
D. J. (Daniel James) Roberts
65, Baddeck
D.J. (Daniel James) Roberts, 65, of Baddeck, N.S., died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, at home.
Born in Baddeck, he was a son of the late John and Elsie (Stowe) Roberts.
He was a member of Greenwood United Church, Baddeck. D.J. was manager of the Nova Scotia Liquor Commission, Baddeck, for 25 years, retiring in 1990. Past member of Baddeck Lion’s Club; the Bras d’Or Yacht Club and an active member of the Baddeck Volunteer Fire Department. He was also a member of St. Mark’s Lodge No. 35 for 39 years; Cape Breton Lodge of Perfection, Sydney; Isle Royal Chapter Rose Croix, Sydney; N.S. Consistory, Halifax; Philae Temple, Halifax and Arm of Gold Shrine Club, Baddeck.
He is survived by his wife, the former Marcella Smith; one son, Mark, Fredericton, N.B.; daughter, Elsa (Mrs. Curtis Nicholson), Middle River; sister, Sadie MacKenzie, Middle River, and three grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a brother, William and one brother in infancy.
The body is resting at the MacAskill Funeral Home, Thursday, Dec. 14 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Masonic Service will be held in the funeral home Thursday at 7:30 p.m. The funeral will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in Knox Presbyterian Church with Rev. Lloyd Murdock officiating. Burial in Goose Cove Cemetery.
