Eric Caume
60, Reserve Mines
Eric Caume, 60, of 225 Centerville St., Reserve Mines, passed away Wednesday, September 13, 2000, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Leo and Julie (Vandermeren) Caume. Eric was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish, Reserve Mines.
For many years Eric worked as a painter and was a member of the painters union. From 1989 Eric was employed by the Cape Breton/Victoria Regional School Board as a painter and retired in 1999 due to poor health.
Eric was an active member of the Reserve Mines Volunteer Fire Dept. and gave much of his time to working the bingo games at the hall. In June of this year, he was presented with a 25 year service medal from the department. He was a member of the Glace Bay KOC and he also served as Grand Knight in 1972 at KOC Council 110 in Brookline, Mass.
Eric enjoyed the outdoors where he was actively involved in his favourite sports, golfing, hunting and fishing.
He will be sadly missed by his wife, the former Myrna McIntyre; daughters, Karen (Mrs. Eddie Martin), Gardiner Mines, and Marlene (Mrs. Robert MacLellan), Beamsville, Ont.; sons, Eric (Chrissy) Geary, N.B., Wayne (Vicki), Bowmanville, Ont., and Michael (Ann Marie), Grain Valley, Missouri; brother, Glenn (Lorraine), Dominion; sisters, Linda (Bernie) DeDieu, Reserve Mines, Lorraine (Allan) Hillier, Tanglewood Sub-Division, Sydney, and nine grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a grandson, Daniel Caume.
Visitation for the late Mr. Caume will be held today (Thursday) 7-9 p.m. and Friday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday 11 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, Reserve Mines, with Fr. Francis Cameron officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Eric’s memory to the Palliative Care Society or St. Joseph’s Cemetery fund are suggested as an expression of sympathy.
Members of the Knights of Columbus are asked to assemble in the funeral home Thursday evening at 7:30 for a prayer service.
George F. Cosnick
62, Reserve Mines
George F. Cosnick, 62, of Sunnyside St., Reserve Mines, died peacefully Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2000, in the Glace Bay Health Care Complex.
Born in Glace Bay and raised in Gardiner Mines, he was the son of the late Stephen and Margaret (Leadbetter) Cosnick. George was a member of Gordon United Church, Reserve Mines. He worked as an auto mechanic in Glace Bay, Dartmouth and finally Saint John, N.B., until his retirement in 1993.
George is survived by his wife, Laurella (Ward) Cosnick; daughter, Susan; son, Scott; sister, Rena (Mrs. Doug Hill) of Upper Rawdon.
Visitation for the late Mr. Cosnick will be held Thursday Sept. 14, 2000 from 7-9 p.m. and Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Patten Funeral Home and Chapel, 71 Union St., Glace Bay. Funeral will be held Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000, at 11 a.m. in Gordon United Church, Reserve Mines, with the Rev. David MacLean officiating. Interment will be in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney/Glace Bay Highway.

Mary (Gervase) McDonald
55, Reserve Mines
Mary (Gervase) McDonald, 55, of 18 Atlantic Dr., Reserve Mines, passed away Monday, Sept. 25, 2000, at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Henry John and Pearl Elizabeth (Young) Poirier.
She was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, Reserve Mines. Gervase was employed at Keddy’s Hotel as supervisor of housekeeping.
She will be sadly missed by husband, Donald (Gordon) McDonald; daughter, Denise Landers, Houston, Tex.; sons, Gordon, Gene and Todd, all of Glace Bay; brother, Henry ‘Brother’ (Joan) Poirier, Glace Bay; sisters, Mary (Frank) Ongo, Bras d’Or, Sheila (Michael) Campbell, Toronto; grandchildren, Travis Landers, Erica McDonald, Rebecca McDonald and Kirsten McNeil. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by brothers, Gene, Alex and Donald.

Marguerite Mary Orchieson
Reserve Mines
Marguerite Mary Orchieson, 91, of Reserve Mines, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Halifax, she was the daughter of the late John Alexander and Margaret (Murphy) Fitzgerald. She was a former employee with Hudson’s Ladies Wear for several years. She resided in Halifax most of her life. She was a devoted mother and grandmother.
She will be sadly missed by daughter Joan Beverly Comeau, Zinc Avenue, Lower Sackville, son, John Douglas (Johanna), Reserve Mines, with whom she resided, sister, Blanche Fitzgerald, Lower Sackville, grandchildren, James “Jamie” Orchieson, Eric Comeau, great-grandchildren, Hunter Orchieson and Christopher Cameron.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by husband, Douglas, brothers, James and Alex.
There will be no visitation for the late Mrs. Orchieson at her request. Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. A memorial mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, at St. Elizabeth Seton Church, 125 Metropolitan Ave., Lower Sackville with Fr. Basil Carew officiating. Interment wlil be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville, Halifax.
Joseph Raymond Ellsworth
76, Reserve Mines
Joseph Raymond Ellsworth, 76, of 149 Haulage Rd., Reserve Mines, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000, at home, where he resided with his niece, Catherine (Reid) MacMullen and his sister, Catherine.
Born in Dominion, he was the son of the late Michael and Catherine (Campbell) Ellsworth.
While in Dominion, he was a member of St. Eugene’s Parish. A native of Dominion, he resided in Toronto for many years before returning to Dominion. Raymond was a veteran of the Second World War (Air Force).
Raymond will be sadly missed by his sister, Catherine Lambert; many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, the former, Sarah Kuperstein, sisters, Margaret, Mary, brothers, Norberth, Michael, Walter, Patrick, Les, Dan, Cameron and Conway.
There will be no visitation for the late Mr. Ellsworth by his request. Cremation has taken place under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A private family service will take place with Fr. Francis Cameron officiating.
Beverly Ann MacPhee
Reserve Mines
Beverly Ann MacPhee, 51, of 4 Poland St., Reserve Mines, passed away Friday, Oct. 20, 2000, at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex.
Born in Reserve Mines, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Henrietta “Rita” (Gaigneur) MacPherson. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, Reserve Mines. Beverly was an avid bingo player.
She will be sadly missed by daughters, Charlene (Allan) MacPhee, Virginia (Andy) Neary and April Dawn (Jeff) MacPhee, all of Glace Bay; sons, James (Sharon) MacPhee and Eric (Mellisa), Reserve Mines; brothers, Daniel MacPherson, Reserve Mines and Michael MacPherson, Glace Bay; sisters, Betty Ingraham, Kitchener, Ont., Doreen Campbell, Reserve Mines, Virginia MacNeil, Calgary, Debbie Currie and Bonita MacPherson, Reserve Mines; grandchildren, Gregory, Jacquelynn, Laura and Ethan. Also surviving is long time companion, Greg Aucoin and a special nephew, Dwayne MacNeil.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a daughter, Laura Lee; two sisters in infancy; two brothers in infancy and twin granddaughters, Lydia and Linda.
Visitation for the late Beverly MacPhee will be held Sunday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, Reserve Mines with Fr. Francis Cameron officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
