Daniel Buddy Brown
76, Reserve Mines
Born in New Aberdeen, he was the son of the late Hector and Mildred (Hemmessey) Brown.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Glace Bay. Throughout his 33 years of coal mining, Buddy worked in No. 12, 16, 20, and 26 Collieries and retired from Prince Mine in 1986. Buddy loved playing cards, swimming in the Mira, and had a keen sense of humour.
Buddy will be sadly missed by his loving wife Shirley (Parsons); sons, James (Donna), Sydney, Daniel (Anita), Parrsboro, Bradley (Suzanne), Mira; daughters, Danette (John McNeil) Brown, Glace Bay, Shirley (Neil) Slater, Marion Bridge, Georgina (Kevin) Brezuk, Calgary, Lisa (Ricky) Hill, Reserve Mines; sisters, Shirley Brown, Kitchener, Joyce (Joseph) Miller, Kitchener, Mary ‘Toots’ (David) Delisle, Kingston, Ont.; 19 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren.
Buddy was predeceased by brothers, James and William.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Dec. 27, at 11 a.m. from St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Marconi St., Glace Bay, with Canon Rev. Fev Arnold officiating. Interment will be in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Memorial donations may be made to the Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of one’s choice.
Tayna Marie (Smith) Brann
27, Reserve Mines
Tanya Marie (Smith) Brann, 27, of 108 Bucheron Cres., Lower Sackville, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, Jan. 8, 2001, at her family residence on Neville Street, Reserve Mines.
Tanya was the daughter of Joseph and Joan (Stubbard) Smith of Neville Street, Reserve Mines.
She graduated in 1991 from Reserve District High School then attended University College of Cape Breton where she received her bachelor of arts degree. She then received her paralegal diploma from Scotia Career Academy in Sackville and was employed with the Crown Attorney’s Office in Bedford and Dartmouth.
Tanya’s biggest enjoyments were spending time with the younger children in her family and travelling to new and different places with her husband Barry. She was also an avid sports fan to the local area.
She was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, Reserve Mines.
Besides her parents, she is survived by her husband, Barry; her maternal grandmother, Veronica Stubbard; four brothers, Leonard (Patti), Lower Sackville, Trevor (Sheila), Lower Sackville, Gary (Dawn), Calgary, and Darren (Cathy), Timberlea, N.S. and a number of nieces and nephews, to whom she was very close.
Tanya was predeceased by paternal grandparents, Larry and Frances Smith and her maternal grandfather, Walter Stubbard.
Visitation will be in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay, today (Tuesday) from 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday in St. Joseph’s Church, Reserve Mines, with Fr. Francis Cameron officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
Memorials or donations in Tanya’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Teresa Farrell
63, Reserve Mines
Teresa Farrell, 63, of 142 Centerville, Reserve Mines, passed away Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Dominion, she was the daughter of the former Margaret Acker and the late Martin McPherson.
In her earlier years, she attended and was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport.
Teresa was the type of person who put everyone else first and herself second. She loved people and the more of them that filled her house, the more she shined. Between cooking, baking and all night conversation, there is no one that didn’t feel at home.
Teresa was a cherished wife to Myles. She was a loving sister to her brothers, Francis, Martin Joe and Daniel, all of P.E.I.; also to her sisters, Evangeline Snow, Reserve Mines, Agnes Rogowitz, Tennessee and Florence Long, Colorado. Also surviving are nieces and nephews; two special nephews, Martin and Brad Snow. She was also a remarkable daughter to her mother, Margaret.
Nana, (as they referred to her), was a grandmother who’s love will never be forgotten by her grandchildren, Michael, Kristina and Matthew. Most important – she was an amazing mother who will always be loved and cherished by her daughter, Anne Margaret, New Hampshire and son, Michael, Boston.
Visitation for the late Mrs. Farrell will be held today (Thursday), 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Funeral mass will be held Friday, 2 p.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport, Fr. Jim Oliver officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery.
Mary Margaret "Maggie" Murray
Reserve Mines
Mrs. Mary Margaret ‘Maggie’ Murray, 70, of 1 Holland St., Reserve Mines, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, at the Glace Bay Healthcare Complex.
Born in Reserve Mines, she was the daughter of the late William J. and Laura May (Gallant) MacDonald.
Mrs. Murray was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, Reserve Mines and a faithful churchgoer. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Maggie’s favourite hobbies and pastime were camping, fishing and bingo.
She is survived by her husband, William H. Murray; two daughters, Florence Copley, Dominion, and Dale (Ralph) Faulkner, Sydney Mines; a son, Donald (Helen) Murray, Glace Bay, and a foster son, Sheldon Aucoin, Trenton, New Glasgow; two brothers, Joseph A. MacDonald, Reserve Mines, and John A. MacDonald, Jones Manor, Glace Bay. Also three grandchildren, Holly Faulkner, Katrina and Tyler Murray; many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a sister Frances Smith and a brother William ‘Dukes’ MacDonald.
Visitation for the late Mrs. Murray was held Wednesday, 2-4, 7-9 p.m. and will be held today (Thursday), 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Funeral mass will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, Reserve Mines, with Fr. Francis Cameron officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery at a later date.
Memorials or donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in Mrs. Murray’s memory.
Catherine Geraldine Lambert
70, Reserve Mines
Catherine Geraldine (Ellsworth) Lambert, 70, of 149 Haulage Road, Reserve Mines, passed away Sunday, March 4, 2001, at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex.
Born in Dominion, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Catherine (Campbell) Ellsworth.
Catherine will be sadly missed by daughters, Catherine (Reid) MacMullen, Reserve, Paula (James) Young, Reserve, sons, Melvin (Janice) Glace Bay, and Kimm (Karen), Halifax. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Maryann, Dan, David, Matthew, Carrie, Kayla, Ashley and four great grandchildren; Jeffrey, Jessica, Ryan and Gary.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Reg; daughter, Carol; grandson, Terry; sisters, Margaret, Mary; brothers, Michael, Cameron, Walter, Dan, Leo, Norbert, Conway, Raymond and Patrick.
Visitation for Mrs. Lambert will be held Tuesday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, Reserve Mines. Father Francis Cameron will officiate.
Interment will be in St. Anthony’s Cemetery at a later date. Donations in Catherine’s memory to the Canadian Cancer society are suggested as an expression of sympathy.
